Rey is a beast. Zimmer was riding his ass though! He said to Rey, "I don't talk to injured players.." and later "How many games did you miss at USC your whole time there?" Rey answered "None." Zimmer then said "You didn't miss a game at college but you've ALREADY missed one here. As a matter of fact, you've missed more games than you've PLAYED!" I thought that was pretty rough, it's the NFL.

Actually Rey said he missed one game :P but rest is true

I could be reading too much into a well-edited television program, but Rey didn't exactly strike me as a "cerebral" guy.

I've been wrong before, though.

Nonetheless, his tackle on the screen pass was pretty awesome, and I haven't seen a Bengals LB make that kind of play since Takeo was here.

Thornton said something similar in his Enquirer Hard Knocks review, basically that Rey may not be a genius but he brings it every play, and as long as Dhani can get him lined up right, then it's "unleash the hounds!"

It's early, and I may be guilty of seeing things that aren't there, but I'd say Rey is flashing the same tendency to split blockers and attempt to make a play in the backfield as Rivers....while guys like Dhani and Jeanty seem content to string a play out wide, hoping for help from other players or the sidelines.

Prety dead on there. I think it's their lack of individual foot speed, when it comes to Dhani and Jeanty. Neither really plays well in space, although Dhani's improved since moving inside.

I never understood why tackles-for-loses in the running game aren't viewed the same as sacks. My fantasy will come sometime in October when Rey and Sims are attacking the G/C gaps together.

This was, by far, the most compelling story line of this show I thought.

I found it the least compelling, probably because it smacks of a waste of time. In fact, what I saw was Lewis confirming my earlier guess that the move was made soley because Shirley has "no chance" to make the team as a DT...and I don't see him sticking as an offensive lineman either. So for me it's just another example of the Bengals wasting time with a player who won't make the team.

The most compelling storyline for me involves the personalities of the members of the coaching and training staff. Marvin and Zimmer of course, but even the lesser known coaches and the medical staff have been impressive. For example, the scene where you see Fitzgerald talking to HIMSELF under his breath (...make every rep count...make every series count...) was one of the most remarkable moments from the show.

Fair enough - I find your most remarkable moment of the show no so remarkable, although the coaching staff is an interesting study of the new (Zimmer, Fitzgerald, etc.) and the old standbys (Brat, Anderson, etc.). So, we disagree once again. If, however, Shirley does happen to make the team as a backup o-lineman it wouldn't be the kind of thing that never happens anywhere else. Since he was somewhat of a project anyway (ala Stacey Andrews) I can fully understand the skepticism on your part. It just "feels" a little different situation to me and I think he may have a chance to stick based on the way the line looks at present. That may all be moot in a week when Smith reports, but it's interesting to me at present.

"OchoCinco condoms... They catch everything your Johnson throws."

"Kiss da baby" is kind of like saying "The fat lady sang." Basically "It's over." When I score a TD, "Kiss da baby." When I'm running circles around you all day long, "Kiss da baby."

I'm loving chad's slogans... This guy is hilarious.

Greenie, I couldn't agree with you more. Ocho is the absolute funniest receiver to average 10 yards per catch last season.

Oh, wait, that sounded negative, didn't it?

One thing about the Hard Knocks coverage that still managed to suprise me was the reaction from several of my employees, each of whom seem fascinated by everything Chad says and does.

Not joking, yesterday my humble little Thousand Oaks based mom-and-pop shop was filled with loud chants of "Child, please!" and the even dumber "Kiss the baby"......all uttered without any prompting from me by a couple of southern California football fans who couldn't care less about the Bengals.

They're all loving themselves some Chad, and usually for the same exact reasons that make me want to choke him.
