ArmyBengal Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Just thought I'd post this as he's been a topic of some good conversation before. I think the number should be the other "30" teams, not 31.The man most famous for punching Brady Quinn in the face can no longer call Quinn a teammate. The Browns released defensive tackle Shaun Smith Saturday, according the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The timing is a little odd, but the result isn't surprising. Earlier this offseason, the Browns coaching staff put Smith on notice to, "Shape up and shut up." (Not exactly Michael Irvin's HOF acceptance speech, but not bad.)In the end, Smith's mouth may have cost him a job, not his fists. It wouldn't be the first time; the Saints once released him for eating in the Atlanta press box . . . right before a game.Perhaps the Browns would have put up with Smith if he was a star, but he was just a role playing reserve. Now the 31 other teams have the opportunity to hear what's on his mind./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/08/browns-dump-shaun-smith/ Quote

I can at least somewhat understand why they are the way they are. They are stars, people cater to them, it gets in their heads, they get away with it... and the cycle goes on. Smith though? I'm completely baffled by him. What a douche. It doesn't make a bit of sense to me. He's bordering on Freddie Mitchell status. You rarely hear so much from someone who has done so little. Quote
COB Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 The biggest red flag to me that the Browns front office didn't know what they were doing was their refusal to cut Smith the moment he punched Quinn in the face. Dude should have been escorted off the premises, send him his stuff, take control of the team. This is an unhappy development for me. The Browns seem to be getting their s**t together, and I don't like it. Quote

Well I like it just fine, mostly because I'm thinking this is a sure sign Brady Quinn really is winning Cleveburgh's QB derby....and by default from most sources. Quote

Well I like it just fine, mostly because I'm thinking this is a sure sign Brady Quinn really is winning Cleveburgh's QB derby....and by default from most sources.I honestly believe that both of their QB's are average at best, so it doesn't matter to me who wins. Whoever wins still has no receivers to throw the ball to and Jamal Lewis is another year older. I just don't see their offense being much of a threat and their defense didn't really make any strides towards coming out of the basement either. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 I actually like the 2 WR's the Browns took in the draft this year with Robiske from Ohio State and Massowhatever from Georgia... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 The Lions just lost a DT starter for the season, so that makes sense. All I can say is, better them than us...He'll go back to playing a 4-3 DT as opposed to the 3-4 DE he was playing in Cleveland. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 10, 2009 Author Report Posted August 10, 2009 See you in Week 13, Shaun.I hope they have won a game before that, so we don't happen to have a down game against them, giving them their first win in 28 games !!!We would never hear the end of it... Quote

They lost their last game of 2007. And they went 1-7 in their last 8 games in '07. If they had just lost that 2nd to last game, the streak would already be at 24. Unbelievable. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 I stand corrected, but something told me I was off when I made the post. If figured either way around, it would be HOLY embarrassing !!Thanks Derek... Quote

They are 1-23 in their last 24 games. Quote

They are 1-23 in their last 24 games. It really is staggering how bad they have been when you consider the way the league is set up to give ALL teams the chance to be, at a minimum, an 8-8 team. Then again, that is what happens when you neglect both lines and continue to draft WR's in the 1st round for many years in a row. ArmyBengal Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 At least they got rid of Millen. I think those fans would have completely revolted against that team had he not been shown the door.I also hate hearing him give sports commentary of any sort as well, because I just can't by how incompetent he was in Detroit. How does that work ?? You suck at what you do, but you can get a job explaining how things happen with the thing you sucked at doing... Quote

He might've been better off coaching than trying to evaluate talent. But that just goes to show you what kind of owner they have. Ford hired a GM straight out of a booth who had no front office OR coaching experience. Quote
gregstephens Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 Over on PFT, there's a story where Hamburglar is running his mouth, saying Shaun Rogers wants to go back to Detroit. Two funniest comments posted on that story include...A reference to Smith's creme filled head...And a statement that Smith's next intelligent comment will be his first.Had to share. Quote

Seems he always needs to be stirring the pot but has to wait til he leaves a team to do it. Quote
Kazkal Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 For some reason I was thinking of Rodgers lol..... forgot all about smith Quote

In all seriousness though, I find it strange that the 3 most inept franchises in the NFL are all in such close proximity to each other. Quote
COB Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I'm sorry...which team are we talking about again? A thread starts with comments about our division rival releasing a defensive lineman. The thread meanders towards the player being picked up by the Lions. Naturally, you somehow find the thread as a perfect place to slam the Cincinnati Bengals. Because you're such a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, and that's what fans on their team's message boards do in a thread that's about other teams and their players; they work in a criticism of their own team.I hope Shaun Smith comes over to your house and takes a s**t on your face. I was actually hoping Hamburglar goes to GHD's house and eats him.By the way, I hereby move that, based on the comment on the PFT story about Smith having nothing between his ears but creme filling, we change Hamburglar's official nickname to either 'Krispy Kreme' or 'Twinkie'. Just a thought. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 12, 2009 Author Report Posted August 12, 2009 Agree that all of his comments come AFTER he leaves a team instead of saying what needs to be said while with his team.Just goes to further show how much of a piece of crap he really is and the reason I laughed when the thought of bringing him back here was raised.
