gregstephens
How about this? He has a breakout year, the Bengals make the playoffs, win the AFC, and win the Super Bowl. Then he walks. I would be okay with that, frankly. But how would you feel if Henry turned his life around yet never developed into a top WR? Seriously, under that scenario do we give soP props for actually being a redeemer OR do most continue to mock his strange interest in Henry if the player doesn't justify his patience on the field? It's why I find the latest Shayne Graham panty-wringing so eye-roll worthy... My panties remain unwrung as I've openly mocked the suggestion Opie is out of here after this season. That said, I have to admit I rolled my eyes a little when I read a blurb about how Grahams acts of charity are the very things that make him more deserving of a large payday. Since when does an act of charity qualify as a reason for greater compensation? And just who you calling a blurb?
HairOnFire
If's he's turned his life around, Hair, but progressed not as a WR, I guess "good on Mikey" from the do a good deed school, but "bad on Mikey" from the GM school. For this to work, and for Mikey to substantiate what he did to his coach last year in August, Henry needs to channel his inner-Cris Carter. Fair enough. One of the reasons for my curiosity is the responses posted on this board a few years ago in a thread about Chris Henry and Josh Hamilton. To recap, Hamilton's rehab and the 4th and 5th chances given to him by the Reds was overwhelmingly applauded by the same posters demanding the Bengals cut bait with Henry. More to the point though, many of those same posters claimed Hamilton's story would be inspirational even if he hadn't returned to playing form simply because he had turned his life around. Quite frankly, I never bought that line of goods and I doubt very much Hamilton would have gotten any more support than Henry had he not being playing very well. Last point. One of the questions asked during the recent NFL Networks rankings was...."Why is Chris Henry still on this team?" The answer given to a very suprised reporter was said to be this simple. Not only is Chris Henry considered by his fellow Bengal players to be the very best receiver on this team, bar none, but he is also considered the finest pure athlete on the entire roster, offense and defense. HairOnFire
And just who you calling a blurb? How about we spare your feelings by NOT recapping all of the names I've called you in the past OR by assuming you were the only writer to claim Opie deserves a bigger paycheck due to his charity work. Lot's of people have said it. Even more probably think it. But I'm not one of them.
Kazkal
Chris was always considered mini Moss for a reason guy he has the body and athleticism to be one biggest threat on this team by far, just seems stupid to not wanna see him come back when he finally has gotten his head on strait... HairOnFire
Well, ok then. Greg, let's be clear, I'm not dinging you. But you aren't the only writer to suggest Opie deserves more than his fair share simply because he performs acts of charity in the surrounding community. While I value those things as much as anyone I simply can't bring myself to suggest a football team should pay a kicker more than his fair market price due to charitable acts performed away from the football field. In fact, if I were willing to pay a bonus based upon non-football related factors I think I'd be MORE tempted to bump Opie's pay because of the pink covered piece of fluff hanging onto his freckled arm. I think Opie's a decent kicker. I think all of his off field qualities make him a little more valuable because of the locker room, PR aspects. I also think those things should have motivated the club to make this issue a slightly higher priority. But on the other hand, I'm still in disbelief the tag price on any kicker is 2.5 million. I don't think any kicker is worth that coin.
ArmyBengal
How about this? He has a breakout year, the Bengals make the playoffs, win the AFC, and win the Super Bowl. Then he walks. That's quite a reach, but I wouldn't have a problem with that either.Of course it's a reach, but since army is busy worrying about future events that are not certain to come to pass, I figure let's worry about something good that won't come to pass before we jump to panty-bunching over theoretical future bad...Dang dude... The only future events that would even qualify as something I'm worried about would involve me retiring from the Army next year.Outside of that, it's just specualting. You know, what at least half this board is all about. Speculating how the defense is going to play, if Carson is 100%, will we have a running game, etc, etc. My point was, WHILE SPECUALTING, that it would in fact irritate me if that situation arose. That doesn't mean I think it will or that it even has a better than 25% chance of happening, just commenting. Then again many here still believe Andre Smith's boobs will keep him from being a good OT. Must be more factual than I first thought... derekshank
Was just watching the ESPN morning show First Take. I was surprised to hear how high they were on Chris Henry. Skip Bayless said "He is Randy Moss if he can stay out of trouble."So... let's assume the cards fall right with this WR corps. Chad somehow gets back on track because of some strange conversation he had with Denzel. Coles is a #1 playing as a #2, and Henry is as good as we think. Is there a major reason this offense couldn't be similar to the Cardinals last year?Yes, I know the concerns about the O-Line... but Arizona didn't have a dominant O-Line either. They just had 3 great WR's that could get open quickly and forced teams to stop blitzing.I don't know. I'm not ready to get too excited yet... but Chad, Coles, and Henry could end up being the best WR corps in the NFL - assuming there is anything to the ridiculous amount of hype being reported at the moment.

If the o-line holds up, you will certainly have your reason to get excited...
