Cheech impressing Carson and Marvin

He's in a contract year and has surely burned up his bonus and is getting the minimum parts of the original one at this point...i'll reserve my judgement as well until after this season at least, and then into the future to see how he handles himself when things are good again and he has money in the bank, a contract somewhere (may very well not be here after this season) etc..,

We saw he behaved after that rookie deal and a good season....I'm glad he's behaving and working hard - hell if it pays off for a playoff run this year only I'm good with that, if he's gone after this season.

Put me in the camp that is waiting to see Henry do something of note before proclaiming the redemption project to be a raging success.

That's the thing, we've all seen him when he's on the field. He's good. Best deep threat on the team by a mile. The thing that's kept him from being great is the fact that he can't stay on the field. Now it looks like he might have that figured out. I don't think it's insane to predict that he'll be a strong contributor to the WR corps. A month or two ago some people were predicting Henry as the #5 receiver, which to me is crazy.

It's not like we're talking about a rookie here. We've seen what he can do.

Seriously, I knocked the guy as much as anyone on this board, but I'm not afraid to wish him success, either. I think some folks are just grumpy and looking for something to complain about. Hey, it's June, there's nothing going on, so Henry's *possible* turnaround passes for good news. Smile. I don't think anyone's called anything a raging success, but by Henry's standards going a month without getting arrested is good, let alone an entire offseason.

But oddly enough that points out part of the problem. Because as bad as Henry has been off the field he's never been better on the field than in his rookie and sophmore seasons. In fact, off the field issues aside....Henry pretty much stunk last season after returning from a short suspension. In fact, I think it's fair to say he's been an empty shell of his former self for quite some time. Furthermore, all of those new skills Henry is said to have developed this offseason are untested and may be little more than fluffery to be written about during the deadest part of the offseason.

There's never been any doubt about what Henry can be if his head is screwed on straight, but whether you see him as a potential #1 or as the 5th guy off the bench....I'd have to say he can't be trusted in ANY important role yet, whether discussing on or off the field issues.

I'm not willing to base anything on last year. Henry's a receiver whose best talents lay in the deep ball; last year, the line couldn't protect long enough to execute a long pass, and they had no one to throw one if the line held anyway. I'm not worried there.

I don't know about the empty shell part. I do agree that *anything* that happens this time of year is little more than fluffery. That's why we have a good three months of hot air before anything happens. But hey, that's what the offseason's for.

I've said for years that Chris Henry is the most physically talented receiver on the roster, but it was the nagging off the field stuff that kept him from reaching his potential. Here's the thing...Never in his career has Chris Henry had a real offseason to work with Carson Palmer and develop the timing and chemistry that is so critical to the WR position. Add in the fact that Carson and the coaching staff continue to point to the job he's done since he's come back in being more diligent and focused during team sessions, and Marvin even prasied him on how he's progressed in the weight room in developing physically.

Outside of last year's REAL starting TE who moved on to Seattle, it's hard to evaluate any Bengals player on last season's perfromance in the passing game, and that includes 85. Ryan Fitzpatrick was the worst starting QB to play here since Scott Mitchell, and the line was quite possible the worst in the league for the bulk of the season. If Chris continues to build on his offseason (I think his troubles are behind him, especially in a contract year), it's not unrealistic to expect 60/700/10 this season, if not better.

I didn't want to start a new topic for a video, so I thought I'd just paste it here for your viewing pleasure.

To start, they should keep him from doing anymore interviews. Next, a 360 turn around in your life won't help you Chris, as it puts you right back where you were. Lastly, I still think he a very talented WR that will be better this year with Carson back and hopefully healthy.

Horrible interview...

Henry will never be confused with a rocket scientist. In fact, he's probably on the low end in terms of his intellectual ability. What he offers the Bengals is a guy that can stretch the field and be a real factor in the red zone, which happen to be two areas in which the Bengals have struggled in mightily while he's been away.

Old shyt, but who knows how that playoff game could've been in '05 against the Steelers, had it not been for the injuries to Chris and Carson.

With Carson playing, the Steelers have never had an answer or a good match up for Henry.

On an unrelated note, have we ever had a receiver corps as talented as a refocused Chad, and rejuvenated Coles, a full season of Henry and a more experienced Calldwell/Simpson as our 4th and 5th receivers?? Chatman may have been the most productive WR we had last season before his injuries, and he might not even make the team!

It's been said before and I'll repeat it again now (I'm sure it won'tbe the last time), but Chatman is another one that I see as getting the axe.

He can't stay healthy and the Bengals have drafted him out of their plans at the position. Caldwell is a MUCH better option than Chatman at this point.

I think Cosby takes over at the punt return position or at least I'm hoping so...
