TJJackson
http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/s....cincinnati.comThe one thing from this piece that absolutely leaps out at me is Fanene startingWhich in turn means JumpyJr isn'tMy guess is that they are going to return him to the role that got him his big contract - rush end on obvious passing downsAs long as Fanene can stay healthy (a huge if) and is productive on running downs, I'm good with that.No mention of Frosty the Slowman, which is also good. Kazkal
I'm cool with that having a fresh jumpy & Michael Johnson rushing on 3rd down could possibility mean passrush...
JoePong
Geathers isn't practicing yet because he is recovering from knee surgery. That's the only reason Fanene is lining up with the starters. You guys make such a big deal out of nothing. And don't worry about Rucker. He's still a big part of this team.

Bearcat1975
And stop calling him jumpy for gawd's sake! You do understand where they are getting that from right ??Isn't it the combo of Jumpy being his father or uncle or whatever, coupled with the fact that Robert jumps offsides a lot? JoePong
Robert Geathers had an uncle that played in the NFL back in the day who went by the name Jumpy. As far as I know, Robert has never gone by his uncle's name at any point in his career. The only people who call him that are Dave Lapham and a few annoying fans.

He's going to beat out Michael Johnson I guess eh? his only chance is we keep 9 Dlinemen.

HAPPYJAQ
With MJ working mostly at OLB, Fanene is the only other viable option as a weak side DE in the base defense. He'll make the team as the 8th defensive lineman, unless McDonald shows something from there or MJ or someone else shows they can play there extensively, if Geathers is not recovered or is re-injured during the season. On a side note, I love Leon Hall, but the jump ball looks to be something that might give him problems throughout his career. If he can continue to improve, he's got as good a shot as any defensive player to go to the Pro Bowl this season, especially with a presumably better pash rush. One thing that sticks out to me is the depth of this year's UFA class. Cosby, Nelson, Lucky and maybe one or two others have a decent chance of making the team this year. NJ29
I'm more interested that the three guys practicing punt returns were Cosby, Tom Nelson, and Chatman. I think Quan has a decent shot at making the roster as a return specialist.

ArmyBengal
Cosby is actually a guy I really liked, but the only way he's making this team is as a punt returner. He's a guy I would have thought the Bears would have picked in the last round when they had a chance. Yeah, he's older and smaller, but he's a very smart guy without much wear and tear. I'm hoping he makes it as I'm sick of Chatman holding a spot on this roster. SICK...

You guys make such a big deal out of nothing. And don't worry about Rucker. He's still a big part of this team.Agreed X3 I think far too much is being made about which player lines up as a starter in.....May. One point that MIGHT be worth mentioning is how close to making a big play Rucker always seemed to be last season, yet never quite got it done. Ever. Time and time again opposing quarterbacks seemingly doomed to a sack ducked and slipped out of Rucker's grasp. Just as running backs doomed to be stuffed for a loss also seemed to duck and slip out of Rucker's grasp with frustrating regularity. Frankly, all season loing Rucker seemed this close >< to being a badass, but he never actually finished enough plays to even matter very much. Breakout player? HAPPYJAQ
I thought Rucker was the most bad-assed of all the D linemen last season. He was easily playing the best football of his professional career and the better than any Bengal linemen last season by far. Rucker was particularly impressive in the 3rd and short situations last season. He'll never be a sack master, but I'm sure that his play last season on running downs had some sort of impact on Odom's decision to gain 30 pounds in 5 months. JoePong
I agree. Rucker seemed to make plays whenever he was in the game.
derekshank
I agree. Rucker seemed to make plays whenever he was in the game.Yep. I think Fanene is a goner... and I'm hoping that they use Rucker as a running down DE. He shouldn't be in there on passing downs, because that's not his thing. I've also argued long and hard (that's what she said) that Geathers should be used as a pass rush specialist. On the other side of the line, Odom and MJ could be used the same way resulting in fresher players and an much improved pass rush.Unfortunately, the Bengals coaching staff rarely use their players the way I think they should, so I have little hope that this will happen. Baraka
now that zimmer, seemingly, has the horses i wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more substitution.
TJJackson
If Fanene is healthy, it'd be my guess that Frosty the Slowman is done-zoThat said, Fanene is rarely healthy, so Frosty might just last one more year

ArmyBengal
Yup,we should have a solid rotation and hopefully shirly turns the light on and can be a factor too. That would be nice. If Shirley can figure it out, maybe we wouldn't have to use a high pick next year on the big DT. Although, I don't think the D-line can have enough BIG DT's...I to think Rucker will be the one to stick.
TJJackson
the exact same crap for at least three years running.*shrug* I like Fanene, but if he can't remain healthy this year, he's done.....said the same about Henderson last yearOther great truthful statements repeated many times and for many years:Mike Brown sucksPushy really likes Chris PerryJames Brooks - great running back, lousy papaMontgomery Inn BBQ isn't really BBQMaybe I shouldn't have bought those shares of <fill in the blank> in November 2007The Ohio River doesn't contain the world's cleanest waterJerry probably shouldn't have paid by checkIt'd sure be nice if the mission really and truly was accomplished (and for clarity - I mean that I wish it was over and everyone was home again)Hair is an ass, and is mighty proud of it
