membengal
From .com article on Luigs:Luigs' brains can't be underestimated. One time this weekend Alexander and assistant Bob Surace shot each other a look when Luigs calmly made an adjustment at the line on an alignment that has caused problems in the past."And he knew it without us having to tell him," Alexander said. One thing they missed when Braham left was someone with legit football sense and IQ on the ball. I think Luigs is that guy and more.http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/hog-...98-79119acc1a64
Wraith
Braham looked like a meat head but he was a football genius. I like that Luigs is in the same mold.
membengal
I'm hoping. I am decidedly less concerned about Luigs' size than some of you. He held his own in the SEC for years against the Glenn Dorseys of the world. And he has a big enough frame to add some pounds and strength with some work. And he is clearly the kind of guy who will put in an honest days work.
Spor_tees
With as smart as Braham was, and the lack of money centers made during his time in the NFL, I am surprised he isn't a coach somewhere.
ArmyBengal
I like the Luigs pick and HOPE he can provide us the type of Center we have been missing for some time and need against the HUGE NT's we face in the AFCN.All that being said, it's nothing more than a hope. I like what we've seen to this point though...
Bearcat1975
Agreed that's what has been needed at center.Nice quote...that's what we want to hear about the new guys.
cincy9275
the only knock on him so far is his strength, the coaches want him to get stronger. that's something he can achieve by training camp, if he works at it.
Kazkal
Another player i'm liking the sound of for his smarts is Chris Pressley,Wouldn't mind seeing him at FB then using Fui as a powerback.I can't tell where Neck stops and the head begins o_O

derekshank
Madden is dead ??No Madden is not dead. But I can see why someone would think that. I was listening to sports talk radio one day last week and they were talking about Madden's retirement, and my girlfriend asked if he had died. It's funny how people in the sports world talk about death and retirement with the same disappointed nostalgic tone of voice.

Alabama abused Arkansas this past season 49-14, with Cody outplaying Luigs. They were in the first year of Petrino's pass-happy offense, so the fact that he was still All SEC is noteworthy, after transitioning from a run-heavy offense that put three RBs in the NFL. I was watching an old Darren McFadden highlight film on YouTube today and the guy consistently dominated his man. He made a mistake in not coming out after his Junior season, where his stock would've been much higher. I really like this pick for the Bengals and feel much better about him coming to the Bengals than I did our last 4th round C.
whizzo
i also like Pressley a lot, truth be told. how's this:RB. C.Benson, F.Vakapuna, B.ScottFB. J.Johnson,C.Pressley?
icehole3
anything is better than Guycheck, I like that were talking about 3 or 4 guys battling for center and none of those guys are named Guycheck, also at fullback 3 or 4 guys and none are named Coates. scott91575
Madden is dead ??All I can think of when I read that is Kissel from the Jerky Boys screaming "John Madden died?" instead of "Uncle Freddie died?" and his sons voice "John Madden's not dead." JoePong
the only knock on him so far is his strength, the coaches want him to get stronger. that's something he can achieve by training camp, if he works at it.I read the same analysis about every top center who has come out i the draft over the last 10 years...they need to get stronger to deal with the big nose tackles in the NFL. I think way too much is being made of that. It's just the standard thing for centers.

DC_Bengals_Fan
Sorry I forgot the /sarcasm tag on the John Madden thing. He's not dead, it's just seemed like it for the last 10 years. Two to one, that gets picked up by PFT. That's how intergoogle rumors get started. themaninblack
I think his intelligence is something that will help him be a MUCH better Center than Eric Ghiaciuc was. As a Center myself I can tell you that intelligence is almost as important as the physical characteristics a player might have. Luigs may not have the ideal bulk/strength to handle the NTs of our division but at the very least his intelligence as a FB player will never be in question in the way that Guychick's was. Intelligence and technique are two things that can beat players with that size and strength that we see on a regular basis. Also, its pretty tough to be a 4 year starter and Rimington award winner in the SEC with bad football strength. This guy has that and he just "gets" it as a football player. Strength is something that can be worked on and while he may not ever possess that bull strength of a guy like Rich Braham, I think he could definitely be a solid starter for this team in the very near future. I was really happy for this team to see how much he was forgotten in his senior year.
