Pidge
According to the Sporting News its just between us and the Lions for Ward's services.Haha, Poor bastard. Still, he's got a SB under his belt and he's guaranteed a nice hefty pay day. Could be worse.Assuming this is true, buhbye Benson for sure. HoTbOy
While I'm pleased the Bengals are trying to fill holes in FA trying to sign DWard, we still need to get someone to open up holes for him...

HairOnFire
I was thinking the same exact thing. How about Ced Benson playing the Ickey Woods role to Ward's J.B.? If the Bengals could somehow manage to sign them both, I would consider this to be a decent offseason, sans Jason Brown. Consider the source, but that's the Bengals plan in a nutshell, according to Lance.
Whur CHad At?
If we sign Ward, still gotta draft a RB day 1 or rd.

The fact we're looking at other RBs seems to suggest Benson has indicated he's going to see what is out there and the money he will be offered is maybe too rich for us. /totally talking out of my ass
Whur CHad At?
I think they can get Benson back on a 4 year deal. Maybe similar money to Jacobs contract
cincyhokie
1,025 yards rushing at 5.6 per carry (plus 41 catches) is nothing to sneeze at. It's almost James Brookish. That's accurate according to the top ten ypc/1000 yard seasons for a back. I think Brooks was 7th or 8th in history at 5.1 ypc. Does anyone know why Ward is getting all the negative speculation for not being an every down back? Has he ever been one and who's to say that he can't be? However, Benson/Ward/draft pick RB could be potentially nice.
Whur CHad At?
If for some reason we do not sign Benson and we land Beanie Wells in rd.2 or Moreno, I will be very very happy.

Kazkal
The Buccaneers, Rams, Broncos, Bengals, and Lions are all in the mix, per a league source.Buccaneers Supposed to be out.Broncos-Signed 2 FA Running backs so out of the race.Lions-Signed Morris and alrdy have Kevin SmithRams-Have Jackson and sounds like ward wants to be featured back so I can't see him going to the rams...Seems like we would be the front runners for sure... jjvolt
Per PFT, the Bengals along with 4 others are suitors of his services:DERRICK IN DEMANDPosted by Mike Florio on February 27, 2009, 5:30 a.m. As expected, running back Derrick Ward is one of the early hot commodities in free agency.Ward, who along with Brandon Jacobs rushed for more than 1,000 yards during the 2008 season, already has received contract offers from five teams. The Buccaneers, Rams, Broncos, Bengals, and Lions are all in the mix, per a league source.Despite some apparent interest on the part of the Giants in trying to keep the Earth, Wind, and Fire trio of Jacobs, Ward, and Ahmad Bradshaw, Ward apparently wants to be someone’s every-down back — and to be paid accordingly. Our advice? Be careful what you wish for, because things start breaking on those guys who carry the ball 20-plus times per game.I for one am just happy to be mentioned as going after someone sweet, other than a 32 year old slot reciever.if by 32 yr. old slot rec., you mean tj, BITE YOUR TOUNGUE. I' d put tj against any rec. in the bengals crappy history.check out his td totals compared to cj. I don't totally disagree with the bengals not breaking the bank on tj but PLEASE spare me the "he's not a bengal anymore so let's downplay his talents" bit. tj is an excellent player and for his sake, I'm glad he's out of this dunghole that mike brown and the attending fans think is an actual nfl franchise. HAPPYJAQ
Anybody have any news on who might be looking at Ced? I can't find anything on him so far. I think that Ward is everything Chris Perry was supposed to be and would be thrilled to have him. Good to see DeDe back, too.

BengalPimp
If their is a deal...it would prob be in the $36-39 Mill range. Similar to the Michael Turner Contract last year.He is NOWHERE near Michael Turner, and it would be a HUGE mistake to give this guy that big of a contract. Turner was a guy who you could see being an every-down back. Derrick Ward IS NOT.That money would be better spent elsewhere(defense,O-Line) Let's also not forget, this guy will be29 when the season starts, and has a career total of JUST 342 carries 1750 yds 5 TD's. I SERIOUSLY DON'T GET IT ? When did things change so much to where a guy who BARELY broke 1,000 yds (1,025) and scores 2 TD's, would be commanding that kind of money? Can you smell the desperation? This guy is not a feature back, and shouldn't be paid like one. He can thank the Carolina defense for his contract, and that 215yd game......Sound impressive? Then how's this? THE GUY ONLY HAS 3 CAREER 100 YARD GAMES with 2 coming last season.Sure give the dude 35-40 million.........
Whur CHad At?
It was early in the day and seeing that the highest RB contract has gone for $7 mill, I see Ward getting 3 mil a year. He turned down a 5 year $15 mill with the Bucs so we will have to wait and see
Whur CHad At?
Apparntley Ward wants to be a Bengal, has Hell frozen over?"They have great leadership in Carson Palmer. They have great talent. They have a lot of stuff going for them. Every team needs a couple of pieces to reach that next level," Ward said. "I remember when I came into the league with the Giants we were just a couple of pieces away from being a great team and we showed that throughout the years. It just depends on the situation, depends on the coaching staff. "Coach Lewis, he's done a heck of a job out there in Cincinnati. Granted, they had a down year last year and the year before but I think that had a lot to do with injuries and stuff like that. But I'm pretty sure everybody is healthy and ready to go and it's a league where anybody can win, anybody can go to the Super Bowl. The last two years has proved that. I really feel that they are an up-and-coming team and big things should happen for them this year."

That means there's no money on the table for you. No market.
