Didn't realize how little faith I had in Perry's health

I hope he is the more Thomas Jones; A player who was a 1st who had injuries at the beginning of his career but overcame them to become a versatile, well-rounded and solid back, than Kevin Jones, who is a player that is routinely injured, despite his 1st round pick status and high ceiling. The good news is that contract years usually bring the best out of players in the NFL.

It isn't like he is any where near Fred Taylor's injury proneness. And he rushed for over 10,000 yards.

I can't wait for Perry in the backfield.

Actually, "Fraud" Taylor got that rap early on but he was surprisingly healthy later in his career. And so far, Perry has been far more injury prone and less talented that Taylor.

Taylor should make the Hall someday, but I'm not sure if he will after playing in JAX, which is pretty much a media black hole.

Every year his first four years in the league he was done for the season by week 3. Then suddenly he stopped getting hurt.

That is what could happen to Perry. Taylor because he should get into the Hall. He was an amazing mix of size, speed and strength with great hands and change of direction.

If Perry stays healthy, he could lead this team in yeards from scrimmage. Just look at how often Carson looks to Perry as first check down, or even first option.

He doesn't look quite as quick and fast as he did, but he still could be very good. Carson says he has the best hands on the team. I think Chad, T.J., Perry, Utecht (who Carson is also gushing about so far) and Kelly/Simpson/Caldwell/Chatman should be extremely potent on 3rd down. I would take that combination over any in the league right now.

Compare that comment (which I agree with, btw) to what I have heard from multiple sportscasters in Pittsburgh. Specifically, that the Steelers have the best 1,2,3 receivers in the league as well as the best 1,2 runningbacks. It's something I have heard over and over the last week or so.

Do you mean, Ward, #10 (who I will never refer to by name again), and Sweed? Please. Pittsburgh sportscasters are clearly biased. Sweed is already hurt and they have NOTHING notable behind him (not to mention that he's unproven). Even if you take away the rookies, I would take Chad, T.J., Chatman/Holt/Maxwell over their 3....and definately Wayne, Harrison and Gonzalez in Indy.

RB wise, Parker is 30+ and coming off a major injury and another unproven rookie RB in Mendenhall. How can they be the best?

Taylor/Jones-Drew (not even close)

Tomlinson/Sproles

Peterson/Taylor

Jacobs/Ward (or Bradshaw)

McAllister/Bush

Maroney/K. Jones

E. Graham/Dunn (or C.Williams)

all things equal.....Johnson/Perry

Steelers fans and media are nuts.

Who Methuseluh Ward, Santonio "one arrest away from being Chris Henry" Holmes, and Limas "my knee blows out first day of practice" Sweed? Some talking head actually said they would take Ward over Johnson, Holmes over Houshmandzadeh, and Sweed over a receiver drafted ahead of him in the same draft? Obviously if the Bengals liked Sweed better than Simpson they would have drafted him.

As far as the RB situation we will see how a healthy Rudi and (hopefully) a healthy Perry stack up to Willie Parker and Rashad Mendenhall after Faneca considering the Bengals have better talent on the offensive line than the Steelers do.

The Bengals have a better QB, better WRs, IMHO better TEs (Miller trumps Utecht on stats but Utecht was splitting time with Dallas Clark), better O Line, and pretty comparable RBs (excluding last years anomoly)

agree but ill give there O-Coordinator the edge over ours.....but still much rather have our Offense as a total package without a doubt.

I can understand why everyone doubts Perry's ability to stay healthy. What I don't understand is why everyone doubts his ability to play. He's produced whenever he's had the chance to for this team, which unfortunately, was only in 2005. If Perry doesn't look quick right now, it's probably because he's been out of football for two years. Once he gets his conditioning back, I'll bet he'll be back to 05 form.

Honestly, I'm not even sure about that. Granted, he had a sports hernia that knocked out his rookie year. Then he had a solid 2005, and was playing in 2006 until his leg got snapped on a tackle. This is his fault? In that case we may as well complain about how Pollack broke his own neck. His recovery has been an issue, and I think its fair to question his drive or desire to be here and all that because of it, but it isn't as if he's been the second coming of Ki-Jana "non-contact injury" Carter.

People will see how important a quality OL is in the NFL this season with Pittsburgh. Their line is in shambles and they just lost one of their best OG's ever. Another thing that has been discounted is the fact that their defense has been so good over the years that they always seem to have a short field to work with. That's why they've had so many average QB's (O'Donnell, Stewart, Maddox, etc) lead them deep into the playoffs every year. Their OC's are overrated, too. Mularkey (who could have been the Bengals coach, as it came down to him and Marvin) and Whisenhunt have not done much after leaving Pittsburgh. In fact, their last OC who did well after leaving there was the current Bengals OC. Short field position makes average offenses look good and good offenses look unbeatable. Player for Player, the Steelers are not even close to being in the same class as the Bengals on offense, QB through K.

I don't know that it's Perry's fault on the recovery. Last year he was complaining loudly about the Bengals medical staff. Also, we've cut Irons and Thurman for not working as hard as they are expected to. If that was the case with Perry, why not cut him too?

Complaints go both ways. I can think of at least two occasions where the Bengals openly complained about Perry's early rehab efforts. On one other occasion they announced Perry had suffered a wrist injury so serious it would have caused him to miss at least 2 games....had he not already been ruled out due to an even more serious injury.

For those waiting for the punchline.....they admitted Perry had injured his wrist playing video games.

Do you make some of this stuff up or what?

Nope. The blurb was mentioned in newspapers and repeated on major websites. Perhaps you've heard of them?

How do you injure yourself playing video games?

You play too often.....leading to repetitive motion injuries. Or if you prefer, RMI's. Or perhaps you've heard of them by one of their other colorful names? If not, try searching newspapers or the internet.

Do you have a link to the article they said that in?

What makes you think I'd have some handy link to an article written years ago...let alone one that only mentioned Perry's inactive status in passing?

If the blurb was that widespread, why are you the only one who knows about it, hmmm?

What makes you think I'd have some handy link to an article written years ago...let alone one that only mentioned Perry's inactive status in passing?

I thought not.

Is there a new standard on an internet forum that you can't remember articles written years ago without a link? Damn... the rules here are getting tight.
