Mike Brown is the smart one? Bidwell voted against but says it was just because he didnt understand it.

From Goodell,

Goodell acknowledged the NFL and its owners failed to foresee the economic issues that would face the league when the last CBA was approved.

"There have been some things that none of us could've envisioned," Goodell said. "You have an economy that's weakening. You have aspects of the deal that we didn't realize that we were going to be building billion-dollar stadiums. ... Things happen. I don't look back at it as a mistake. I look back at it as what do we need to do going forward?"

It's kind of odd to say that out of 32 millionaires, Mike Brown's the smart one.

Let's not confuse Mike Brown with a forward thinking, progressive genius of any sort.

He voted against it, because there wasn't enough share of the league revenues in it for him. Not sure he really cared about anything else.

He is a genius. The epitomy of NFL owners. :P

He does know his $$. Ill give him that. Thats about it.

But its good that Goodell publically commented on how ridiculous rookie contracts are.

I think Mike knew it was a bad deal. Hell, even I knew it was a bad deal but the big business guys (Jones and Snyder) waited 'til the last moment to put the deal together. A trick used in many business transactions to force negotiation resolutions.

I bet Mike is the only one to have read it before he voted. The rest of the owners just wanted to have a CBA in place to avoid the fallout which would have occured if the season started without a new agreement.

I am most surprised that there hasn't yet been any mention of adopting an NBA-like rookie salasry structure based on draft position. It is the best overall solution for everyone but new rookies and their blood-sucking agents.

BTW Fat, this is my bengalszone ID, from arch-devil.

Even though Goodell hasn't mentioned it by name, I suspect the NBA model is exactly what the NFL has in mind to remedy this problem.
