HAPPYJAQ
Another thing I thought about....In response to recent developments, would the Bengals consider trading Chad to the Bears for Brian Urlacher? Urlacher has had a very similar offseason to Chad, in regard to complaining to the media about his unhappiness in the midst of a long-term deal (that the team is unwilling to redo) and missing OTAs. The only thing really missing with Urlacher are his apperances on ESPN and the NFL Network. A straight up trade would help both teams; It would give the Bears a much-needed major offensive weapon and #1 WR and the Bengals a differnece making, All-Pro LB with leadership skills. I'm not sure of how the salary cap would affect that, although I am sure it would take new contracts for both, prior to any trade. Also interesting is the fact that both teams already have their eventual replacements in place, with speculation surrounding that the Bears would replace Urlacher in the middle with Briggs and the Bengals drafting Simpson/Caldwll and Urrutia this year. He and Chad are also about the same age and NFL LB's typically last longer than NFL RB's, although the Bears may feel that Chad gets them closer to being over the hump short-term, than the Bengals do. Just wondering what other Bengals fans would think about such a trade.
BengalszoneBilly
Just wondering what other Bengals fans would think about such a trade. One of the more even possibilities I've heard to date. Still I doubt it would ever happen.
Ickey44
We'd have to redo his contract, and I seriously doubt Mike Brown would do that for a player that's never played a down for him.
BengalPimp
Impossible for 2 reasons#1 The Bengals are NOT going to take that cap hit....if they were, they would have traded Chad prior to the draft. He is not going anywhere so stop with the trade talks. He either plays for the Bengals or he sits out, Marvin has been crystal clear about that.#2 Urlacher is NOT going anywhere. He is, and will remain a Bear. The only reason they have not re-worked his contract is because of the Back and Neck injuries he's suffered within the past year. Make no mistake about it though, the Bears WILL NOT TRADE HIM FOR ANYONE. Expect him to report to the mandatories, and if all goes well, maybe get a new deal at some point during the season, or shortly thereafter depending on his health. The Bears have never talked or even considered the possibility of an Urlacher trade, and will eventually cough up the bucks after stalling, much like they did with Lance Briggs. It a nice thought, but its just a fantasy.......... HoosierCat
Impossible for 2 reasons#1 The Bengals are NOT going to take that cap hitThe cap issue is bulls**t, as has been noted may times.#2 Urlacher is NOT going anywhere. He is, and will remain a Bear. The only reason they have not re-worked his contract is because of the Back and Neck injuries he's suffered within the past year.Which is why I have zero interest in Urlacher...he's an injury mess and we had enough of that last year. 7/11
disregarding financial consequences, i'd like the deal..-it would give us a great LB and leadership-it would get rid of a big distraction in chad-it would put chad in a terrible offensive situation in chicagobut, on top of the $4+ million we'd cough up in each of the next two seasons, we'd have to pay urlacher a top-notch contract, which i don't think we could/would do.would love it in madden, but it just won't happen
