agreen_112
purify won't make the teamwhy not? your boy is retiring....man of his word, and all that, right?haha, i hear ya...i say purify doesn't make the team basically b/c there isn't room for him.t.j.caldwellsimpsonchatmang. holturrutia[chad]...he is not better than any of these players...maybe holt, but we can't go into the season with 4 rookiesChatman You sure about that?Who can return punts and kicks?Chatman, Holt, and, maybe, Caldwell?Who cares? Chatman isn't that great anyways... Surely someone in camp will step up.

Down to 6Purely in terms of talent, Purify is a better receiver to this point that Urrutia. Down to 5.There's likely to be at least one inury among the rest, probably Chatman based on history. Down to 4I'd say he has an excellent chance to make the team, particularly if he shows something on special teams, and not necessarily as a PR/KR.Not sure why you aren't listing Gabriel

Not many. If you don't like that example because it took some time for TJ to develop, let's talk Marques Colston - how many receivers were taken ahead of him that were clearly not as good as he was/is?Purify was undrafted because of off the field concerns, period. Had he not had those concerns, he would have been drafted, and almost certainly ahead of Urrutia, whose 2007 season of 35 catches and 3TDs does not exactly scream "keeper" to me In any case, re-read what I wrote - I never suggested dropping a veteran, so I am unsure why you raise this question. Everybody else is who knows? Next year's draft will also include a high round pick for WR whether TJ re-signs or not. Outside of the first 3 names, nobody is all that impressive or likely to stick on any team.
Horsemen
Another wideout with character issues available.SIGN! Cincy is clearly needs a few more WR's. 7 Just aint enough.
truthteller
Without a better defense we will not have to worry about a punt returner. If Purify makes the team it means we are weak at wide reciever. This upcoming season will tell a lot about Palmer. Without CJ Palmer might suffer. ArmyBengal
If by suffer you mean Carson's percentage and rating go up due to the passes NOT being dropped by Chad, then yeah, he'll suffer...OH YEAH, VOTE IN THE BENGALSZONE PARTY POLL !!!WHODEY !!! HAPPYJAQ
This might surprise some, but I believe that CJ is overrated. In seven seasons, he has not proven to be a clutch player (other than the Chicago game 3 seasons ago), provide anything after the catch or in the blocking department. It seems like he has 3 or 4 great games a year against the lesser teams in the league that pad's his stats. I also believes he hurts the running game as Rudi had much longer runs when he had Warrick, Dugans and Farmer blocking downfield for him a few seasons ago. All three (especially P-Dub) were better blockers than any receiver that we've had since. As my grandfather would say, if you can't win with them, see if you can win without them. CJ is not as huge a loss as some might believe, although he is sometimes fun to watch at times.
TJJackson
as opposed to the great Colts receivers of recent years, who take great pride in their blocking
Wraith
I'll say it again, TJ is a willing and effective blocker, I can't say the same for Chad.
TJJackson
I dunno - the coaches do not seem to single out Chad last year when they talked about how they had some of the best pure receivers who happened to also be some of the worst blockers

It sucks. I'm not gonna lie.''-- Chad Johnson, truth-teller.Self assessments are always the most revealing when a person is being honest. Chad is partially to blame (along with some of the other receivers) for the lack of long gains on running plays. It's just a part of the game that he is either not very good at or not interested in. I'm not really trying to bash Chad because I think he is a top 10 receiver overall; I just think that if/when he stops playing for the Bengals, as long as Carson Palmer is the QB and the line remains solid, the Bengals will be fine. TJJackson
It's just a part of the game that he is either not very good at or not interested inBlocking is part of the job description, and as a highly paid professional, it doesn't matter if he is "interested" or not - he is expected (and well paid) to do it to the best of his ability AND improve it over time.
