UFA DT still available

I've been looking at the UFA DT still available and there isn't much. The one who I think has potential would be DT Ethan Kellely from the Browns he's only 27, is 6-2, and 338 lbs. So with his age his productive years should still be ahead of him. The other options are Chuck Darby, Rod Coleman, and Jimmy Kennedy. What do you all think? I think I'd like us to take a chance on signing Kelley if we could get him reasonably priced and also make a trade for someone like roberston.

I know Marvin tried to lure Rod Coleman here some years ago, but he opted to Atlanta. Not sure what he' would be after the last year that the Falcons had. This City (I live in Atlanta ) was torn apart kinda like what the '87 strike year did to the Bengals team. Jimmy Kennedy is a true Bust !! The Rams have been trying to fix the mistake of drafting him since drafting him !! He got the money and then just tanked it. Yeah he had a couple of injuries, but really just a lack of effort since he came into the league. Don't know enough about Darby, and wouldn't want a Browns reject unless the Browns suddenly said, hey Bengals how about an even swap ....... Braylon Edwards for Chris Henry !!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I would not look past the Robertson deal yet. The Jets are going to have to get rid of his cap hit with their new acquisitions. Now whether the Bengals are willing and or clever enough to swing something else is the key.

(Let it be known i have no sources for this, but looking at the cap they cannot keep him)

Scratch Kennedy. Jags signed him to an offer sheet yesterday, Bears have 7 days to match (it's something worked out when the Bears signed him, not an RFA deal, so there's no compensation to the Bears if they don't). But either way he'll be back in Chicago or in Jax in a week.

From Curnutte:

The Bengals have just confirmed a visit by Browns free agent defensive tackle Ethan Kelley. He is 28 and played college ball at Baylor. He was originally a seventh-round pick by the Patriots in 2003.

And this from Hobson's piece on Odom:

Even though the big-name defensive tackles are pretty much off the board, the Bengals confirmed Tuesday's visit of Browns backup nose tackle Ethan Kelley, a 6-2, 338-pounder and fifth-year pro who played a career-high 13 games with 24 tackles in Cleveland last season.

Head coach Marvin Lewis indicated the Bengals defense is still a base 4-3, but Odom says he's comfortable dropping into pass coverage after playing some fire-zone packages in Tennessee. With Odom probably lining up opposite left end Robert Geathers, another 6-5ish end athletic enough to play linebacker this past season, it looks the Bengals are moving to Zimmer's desire of mixing up the 3-4 and 4-3 looks.

"It gives us more versatility than we had before," Lewis said. "We had to jerry-rig stuff around to make sure Robert was in the right spot at times. Now we don't have to worry about that as much. It gives us a little more flexibility."

Young guy good size I could live with that. You say what you want but theyre sticking to their plan trying to upgrade the Dline!

I don't think Coleman is any old geezer :

Coleman, 30, may be extremely difficult to replace. The eight-year veteran is one of the premier interior pass-rushers in the NFL and leads the league in sacks by a tackle (44½) over the past five seasons. Noted for his quickness and ability to penetrate through the inside gaps, Coleman possesses a rare skills-set.

Since joining the Falcons as an unrestricted free agent in 2004, Coleman has 28 sacks in 44 games, including 11½ in 2004 and 10½ in 2005. He earned a Pro Bowl berth in 2005.

The former East Carolina star, chosen by Oakland in the fifth round in 1999, played the first five seasons of his career with the Raiders before departing in free agency. For his career, Coleman has 281 tackles, 56½ sacks, nine forced fumbles, three recoveries, one interception and 26 pass deflections. He had played in 104 games and started 65 of them.

Like most teams, Atlanta is not deep at the tackle position, and the loss of Coleman, even if only for the offseason program, is a major setback as new coordinator Mike Zimmer tries to revamp a defense that statistically ranked 22nd in the league in 2006. The only other proven veterans on the team are Grady Jackson and Jonathan Babineaux and Darrell Shropshire

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Browns rush defense HORRIBLE last year?

No sir. You are not wrong, but they are striving as we are to change that. At the moment I feel they are ahead. Our draft position has the potential to turn that around if we use it wisely.

Key word in that sentence...WISELY!
