Wraith
From what I have heard, the Bears agreed not to franchise Briggs to get him to camp last year, but who knows. I have also heard that Haynesworth is not wanted by the Titans because of his issues. The proof will be in the pudding.
HairOnFire
ok, let's highjack this thread and focus on LB FA's:VilmaBriggsDansbySuggs<insert name>Who makes the most sense? Demorrio Williams? He's completely unrestricted, Zimmer worked with him in Atlanta, and he fits the still young modestly priced profile that the Bengals find attractive. Several weeks ago there were reports claiming the Titans had begun negotiating with Haynesworth, and speculation that they would franchise tag him if a new contract couldn't be reached. Won't break the bank so if doesn't become good to great, no harm, no foul. And with a name like Demorrio he's got to turn into a combination of Demeco Ryan and Mario Williams right? Right? mgi
I'll take Thurman and Pollack (even though he is too small for a 3-4 DE).If these two could come back (although doubtful), it would be like two huge FA pick-ups.
TJJackson
Dansby - the player we should have taken in place of the Glass Running Back in 2004 - is the potential FA I'd most like to see in stripes
sparky151
Suggs should be available in FA since Baltimore has some cap issues. I'd play him as a RDE in a 4-3. If Pollack and Thurman return, the Bengals are set at LB and can look at FA linemen.

Almost all of the pressure he got on the quarterback came with his hand on the ground coming off the end...If Pollack comes back, we have our ends in a 4-3, Pollack and Geathers.IMO. kingwilly
I would love it if Mr. Pollack had 0% chance of re-injuring his neck. HOWEVER, we should not prematurely assign him an end job. He is only 255lbs soaking wet and really did not overly impress me in the limited time he did play. If he should come back, I'd prefer to see him outside of Ahmad Brooks at LB. Getting pressure on the QB is not so much about size and strength as it is about quickness and speed. Pollack showed me both. DE against OT is a lot like posting up in basketball. It's about the first step and who gets it. In basketball, the guy who gets the first step to the hoop almost always wins because the defender has nothing left but a foul. Freeny has been a big sack guy because he has/had the quickest first step to the QB. I saw it a few times in the very limited time that David played with his hand on the ground, he got the first step on the tackle and was comin' fast. I believe David has above average pass rush skills. Can he help stop the run? What would make you think he can't? He certainly has the speed to get out on the edge on running plays wide to his side and if we get the young stud DT that we all covet, I see no reason at all that David and a really good young DT could not team up to stuff up the run game on that side. I also think Fanene can be a valuble part of strong DE rotation. Many seem to take joy in bashing Marvin, but he is right...You stop the run as a team.First we have to see if David wants to come back...And we have to see if he can come back...If Pollack and Thurman come back to realize their huge upside and potential it will become clear that all of the self-rightheous bitching we heard in '07 will be moot.God Almighty, I hope so.BIG IF, I know, but IF it comes to pass, I'll have a whole bunch of I TOLD YA SOs to spread around the internet. Not necessarily to you, King. HairOnFire
BUMP ESPN's Len Pastabelly is he latest to claim that Marvin Lewis has already made the decision to switch to a base 3-4 defense (Joe Pong!!!!) and is pouring over film of free agents who might fit. Pastabelly names only one potential FA of interest, OLB/DE Calvin Pace, of the Arizona Cardinals. For his first four seasons Pace had been a crushing disappointment for the Cardinals, but he did blow up big last year, producing 98 tackles, 18 assited tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 1 interception. Pace does fit the profile of the type of FA the Bengals often pursue. He's a still young 27 years old, and with only one good season under his belt won't break the bank like a more established player might. Pidge
So the Cards aren't going to tag him? I still think he stays. Although, do they have to restructure the outrageous contract for Fitzgeral this this offseason? He has something like a $17m cap hit next year due to bonuses etc. Might not have a enough room if Fitz decides to see his contract out test the market in a couple of years. I was of course thinking of Carlos Dansby. It's like I thought we'd even be looking at him. Don't know much about Pace.
