If you could add 2 FA's and one pick to a 3-4 defense...

Ok...with the speculation of a 3-4 defensive switch heating up after the newly hired coaches, here is a question:

If you could add 2 FA's and one draft pick, who would you choose, why, and what would be your 3-4 starting defense for next year?

Personally I would add Gholston as a draft pick to become a starting DE. He is good against the run and the pass and has the strength to push O-linemen into the backfield and cause disruption.

The first free agent I would take is Damoine Lewis from the Panthers to come in and play NT. He has played on good defenses before and has great size. The second one would be Karlos Dansby. He is going to cost a few bucks to bring in, but the guy is 6'4" 250lbs and only 26 years old. He is exactly the type of backer Zimmer needs for his 3-4 defense.

The starting defense would be:

DE-Golston

NT-Lewis

DE-Geathers

WOLB- Jeanty

WILB- Jones

SILB- Dansby

SOLB- Brooks

CB- Hall

CB- J-Joseph

SS- Ndukwe

FS- White

It is kinda useless to separate SS and FS because Marvin believe in the guys being interchangeable. Both White and Ndukwe are big hitters, though Ndukwe seems to have a better nose for the ball.

DE- Ellis (r1)

NT-Rogers (FA Detroit)

DE-Geathers

WOLB- Suggs (FA BAL)

WILB- Butler (NV LB r2-3)

SILB- Brooks

SOLB- Jeanty

LB Depth: Jones, Johnson, Jeanty, etc.

CB- Hall

CB- J-Joseph

SS- Ndukwe

FS- White

I like Suggs more than Dansby.

Rogers can clog the middle.

Peko could be a 3-4 end, but as Kaz said, no way for Jumpy. Most athletic tackles can be converted to 3-4 ends... the toughest positions to find are the nose tackle, the fast middle backer and the weak side backer (needs to be superfast, great range and good instincts)...... the strong side and "tough" middle backer take on linemen a lot so they usually need to be bigger.

BUT WE aren't gonna have one.

DE- Ellis (r1)

NT-Rogers (FA Detroit)

DE-Geathers

Geathers 3-4 end? lol.

Ok, Geathers might be a little light...Peko or Myers can rotate.

Geathers/Henderson/Jeanty as DE/LBs make onfield rotations from 3-4 to 4-3 and nickel/dimes pretty easy.

No matter how we slice it, adding Ellis and a couple of FA's like Rogers, Vilma, Suggs, Dansby cou;d seriously improve this D in a hurry. Jet the B-Robs, THorntons, Justin, Rucker, Miller as dead wood and get this thing ready to go.

Please stop the stupid talk about a 3-4 defense. It's not gonna happen. Thank god!

Hobson today:

The Bengals are apparently in the process of deciding whether to stick to a 4-3 or move to a 3-4

Apparently, huh? Sure they are dude. Whatever.

Curnutte:

The Bengals are toying with the idea of switching from a defensive scheme that uses three linebackers to one that employs four, known as the 3-4.

Yup, all just a couple stupid fans, right? No basis in reality, right? Cant do it because Joe Wrong says so, eh?

Sorry Joe. Whether they do it or not remains to be seen. But they are considering it. And it's not a figment of the imagination.

Thanks for playing.

Sedrick Ellis, DT USC R. 1

My two FAs would be: Albert Haynesworth DT, Tennesee and Lance Briggs, Chicago (bye Justin, Madieu, Deltha) and we would need to find a way to get rid of Geathers for a pick because he doesn't fit anywhere in a 3-4, we all saw that he is not a 3-4 backer and he is definately not a 3-4 DE (DT as I call them because they are interior line positions)

My 3-4 defense would be (dreaming that Pollack would be back and ready to play after all we are dreaming right?)

DT: Sedrick Ellis (rd. 1)

NT: Albert Haynesworth

DT: Domata Peko

SOLB: David Pollack

SILB: Lance Briggs

WILB: Odell Thurman

WOLB: Ahmad Brooks

RCB: Jonathon Joseph

LCB: Leon Hall

NCB: Tracy Porter (rd. 2)

SS: Marvin White

FS: Nede Ndukwe

Provided everyone was healthy that would be the top D in the AFC

And the only thing you have to back up this theory is a bunch of rumors and in some cases, wishful thinking by people who are not involved in the bengals organization.

We play a 4-3 and will continue to do so.

Next.

It does NOT "appear" that we are switching to a 3-4. There is no chance that we will switch. There is nothing to even suggest that we will outside of the imagination of a few retarded and not very bright "fans."

And that's why we love JoeWrong! :lmao:

Haynesworth is almost guaranteed to get franchised. I wouldn't be surprised to see Suggs get franchised too.

ok, let's highjack this thread and focus on LB FA's:

Vilma

Briggs

Dansby

Suggs

<insert name>

Who makes the most sense?

Which one is most likely to get tagged?

uh, is Briggs an FA?

Vilma isn't a FA and can't really be because he is coming off an injury..so the Jets can't cut him until he is cleared to play. As far as a list of FA LBs here is a link and I'll paste it too.

This years FA LBs

Lance Briggs, UFA, Chicago Bears

Tedy Bruschi, UFA, New England Patriots

Karlos Dansby, UFA, Arizona Cardinals

Demorrio Williams, UFA, Atlanta Falcons

Boss Bailey, UFA, Detroit Lions

Danny Clark UFA Houston Texans

Kawika Mitchell UFA New York Giants

Mark Simoneau UFA New Orleans Saints

Jordan Beck RFA Atlanta Falcons

Kevin Bentley UFA Seattle Seahawks

Darryl Blackstock RFA Arizona Cardinals

Brandon Chillar UFA St. Louis Rams

Na'il Diggs UFA Carolina Panthers

Landon Johnson UFA Cincinnati Bengals

Teddy Lehman UFA Detroit Lions

Lemar Marshall UFA Washington Redskins

Sam Williams UFA Oakland Raiders
