Spor_tees
Ok...with the speculation of a 3-4 defensive switch heating up after the newly hired coaches, here is a question:If you could add 2 FA's and one draft pick, who would you choose, why, and what would be your 3-4 starting defense for next year?Personally I would add Gholston as a draft pick to become a starting DE. He is good against the run and the pass and has the strength to push O-linemen into the backfield and cause disruption. The first free agent I would take is Damoine Lewis from the Panthers to come in and play NT. He has played on good defenses before and has great size. The second one would be Karlos Dansby. He is going to cost a few bucks to bring in, but the guy is 6'4" 250lbs and only 26 years old. He is exactly the type of backer Zimmer needs for his 3-4 defense. The starting defense would be:DE-GolstonNT-LewisDE-GeathersWOLB- JeantyWILB- JonesSILB- DansbySOLB- BrooksCB- HallCB- J-JosephSS- NdukweFS- WhiteIt is kinda useless to separate SS and FS because Marvin believe in the guys being interchangeable. Both White and Ndukwe are big hitters, though Ndukwe seems to have a better nose for the ball.

HoosierCat
I think Peko could certainly play end in a 3-4.
Sportsdoc
Peko could be a 3-4 end, but as Kaz said, no way for Jumpy. Most athletic tackles can be converted to 3-4 ends... the toughest positions to find are the nose tackle, the fast middle backer and the weak side backer (needs to be superfast, great range and good instincts)...... the strong side and "tough" middle backer take on linemen a lot so they usually need to be bigger.BUT WE aren't gonna have one. kingwilly
DE- Ellis (r1)NT-Rogers (FA Detroit)DE-GeathersGeathers 3-4 end? lol.Ok, Geathers might be a little light...Peko or Myers can rotate.Geathers/Henderson/Jeanty as DE/LBs make onfield rotations from 3-4 to 4-3 and nickel/dimes pretty easy.No matter how we slice it, adding Ellis and a couple of FA's like Rogers, Vilma, Suggs, Dansby cou;d seriously improve this D in a hurry. Jet the B-Robs, THorntons, Justin, Rucker, Miller as dead wood and get this thing ready to go.

Spor_tees
If the Bengals can't get a good DE in the draft for the 3-4, what does everyone think about signing Mike Rucker as a FA from the Panthers?
Wraith
Sedrick Ellis, DT USC R. 1My two FAs would be: Albert Haynesworth DT, Tennesee and Lance Briggs, Chicago (bye Justin, Madieu, Deltha) and we would need to find a way to get rid of Geathers for a pick because he doesn't fit anywhere in a 3-4, we all saw that he is not a 3-4 backer and he is definately not a 3-4 DE (DT as I call them because they are interior line positions)My 3-4 defense would be (dreaming that Pollack would be back and ready to play after all we are dreaming right?)DT: Sedrick Ellis (rd. 1)NT: Albert HaynesworthDT: Domata PekoSOLB: David PollackSILB: Lance BriggsWILB: Odell ThurmanWOLB: Ahmad BrooksRCB: Jonathon JosephLCB: Leon HallNCB: Tracy Porter (rd. 2)SS: Marvin WhiteFS: Nede NdukweProvided everyone was healthy that would be the top D in the AFC

kingwilly
Either way, what they have done in the past DID NOT WORK, so here is a vote for change.So.....3-4.....4-3.....I don't really care, in fact, from the article with Zimmer it will probably be a hybrid of sorts.
