coupdayta
Was anyone else disgusted by the banter between Boomer and Cowher today? At half time they absolutely ripped Marvin and Chad over the TD celebration with the camera. Boomer at one point pointed to Cowher and said "and I don't think this coach would put up with that." meaning Chad's antics. I think a celebration is exactly what we needed, penalty be damned. We're 4-7, the season is pretty much over. We need something to feel good about. We need to regain our swagger.Chad Johnson is not Terrell Owens. I hope this game put to rest any ridiculous talk of trading him in the off-season.But Boomer is quickly becoming one of my least favorite commentators. I can barely watch the CBS Half Time report now that he and Cowher bash the Bengals on a weekly basis. I couldn't stand seeing him suck up to Cowher today. Very pathetic. scxeezy
I have to disagree with you guys. Although I did not see the halftime show, I was frustrated seeing Chad unnecessarily costing us 15 yards with his celebration. What he did did not help the TEAM whatsoever! His touchdown was actually worth 4 points, not 7...the resulting FG by the Titans negated the other 3.Sure this does not matter now, nor for the rest of the season, but I hope to hell he does not cost us penalties like this next year when our season will actually mean something (hopefully).Boomer was an all-time great for the Bengals. How quickly we turn on him.

His touchdown was actually worth 4 points, not 7Well, even it was worth only 4 points and not 7, that's a far cry from "no help whatsoever," right?I'm sure everyone would have rather not had the flag (and personally I thought the flag was lame; it isn't as if he flipped off the Titans or something), but for Boomer and Cowher to whine like they did, not only at the half but after the game, was even lamer.Boomer was an all-time great for the Bengals. How quickly we turn on him. Chad is an all-time great for the Bengals. How quickly we turn on him...right?
ShulaSteakhouse
It seems people missed the fact he pointed the camera to his team on the sidelines, and sought out his lineman and QB on the other two. He's fine when he does that, when he's not incurring a penalty, and involving his teammates who helped him get there, and doesn't "quit" when things don't go his way.The camera thing was stupid, but whatever, every once in while that stuff's fine when the time's right, it's the self-centered promotional stuff I get tired of, and the pouting and quitting/big drops. akiliklingler
Chad played great today and I was glad to see it. No matter what though, the camera thing was a stupid thing to do. Funny, selfish, thankful, whatever the meaning behind it, it cost the team 15 yards. If the Bengals lost by 3 points today, everyone would be ripping him for pulling that crap. Riagogogoindanati
I love Chad....glad to see him and CP connecting today. But some of the comments made by Cowher and Boomer were warranted. If Chad were to get a fine and it only affected him...celebrate all you want. But when the team is penalized with 15yds on the insuing kickoff....that is a problem. Again, a selfish (not selfless) act by Chad. I found his celebration on the second TD a nice change by celebrating with his Oline. For once, we blew out a team at home. If the game had been close that 15 yd penalty could've been detrimental to a team as soft as the Bengals have been playing. I agree, Chad is not TO. I hope he and Palmer are back for good. skyline
99% of the time, I'll complain when someone draws and unnecessary penalty. Today's touchdown fell into the 1% category. This team needs an emotional spark right now, and you could see everyone enjoying the moment right along with Chad. If it takes 15 yards to do it, then so be it. He was a class act on the next two touchdowns. What really irked me about Boomer's comments were his accusations that Chad's actions today were going to cause strife in the locker room. Does anyone seriously believe that? If Chad were allowed to get penalties week in and week out without repercussion, then I would agree. It seems obvious to me, though, that this was going to be a one-time thing. Marvin's chewed him out for getting penalties before, but today he welcomed him to the sideline with open arms. I'm guessing they discussed this ahead of time. Marvin wanted his team excited...

Donde esta Ocho Cinco?Chad Johnson is a great player but where has he gone? He started the season with a TD in Week 1 and came right back with two more in Week 2. He hasn't been to the end zone since. That gold jacket he wore earlier this season as a sign of his eventual Hall of Fame induction sure looks like a bad luck charm right now. Teams are letting him catch the ball but they are tightening it down when it comes to the end zone. It has to be killing him to watch Moss and T.O. scoring at will this season. I hope he gets back on track soon, but I bet we don't see anymore patented TD celebrations -- at least not after the first one.
Riagogogoindanati
I admit, I enjoyed it. There is a place and a time for it....and today happened to be that place and time. So I guess it's give and take. What I enjoyed even more was Cowher's reaction........I hadn't seen that chin stiffen up and prepare to spew a loogey in a while. Nice to see you still have it Bill. If Bill was our coach.......#85 woulda gotten a spankin at the half.

dave
Boomer and Cowher were right. Why can't Chad fire himself and his team up without doing things that will draw penalties? If the Titans had made a comeback in the second half, that end-of-half FG could've been big. I would predict that Chad's actions will cost them in a big game, but they won't be in a big game again any time in my lifetime. That sickening picture of Marvin smiling at Chad right after the penalty is just about all you need to know about what's wrong with the Bungles on the field and in the locker room (that is, the things that Marvin can control and can't be blamed on Mike Brown). Chad couldn't lead the team without being normal Chad. And since the Titans needed 29 more points in the second half, the penalty didn't hurt them. Anyway, it's not like CHAD is solely responsible for giving the Titans three points. The Titans, while in good field position, were able to run 9 plays saved by a "USC Thug" doing what Beuerlein expected of them. Anyway, they started at the 42. It's not like the Bengals coverage teams have done THAT much better -- though they did Sunday -- and it's not like Graham is kicking it endlessly into the endzone. And sorry man, I'm not buying the "lockerroom" argument. Too much came out Sunday showing this team is together and that this team is back to showing they have pride. I just think there's more things to focus on rather than Chad's celebrations. Here's the most uncomfortable phrase right now most people will deny, or reject: With everything the way it is, the Bengals NEED Chad Johnson right now -- all of Chad. I think that was shown Sunday.
Jet23
Cowher came off a bit holier than thou, but I had no problem with Boomer speaking up. He would not put up with such crap when he was qb, why should he now? Let's face it, 80% of NFL coaches wouldn't put up with the antics. They are selfish and distracting. I'm not buying it that 'Chad just has to be Chad'. He is a professional, he needs to start acting like it. Why is it that he now refuses to talk to the local media? He is getting more heat from the national media.

TippCityRick
The worst part of the whole "commentary" is that the penalty Chad drew had NOTHING AT ALL to do with the field goal at the end of the half. On the previous kickoff the Titans returned the ball to the 37. They got it to the 42 on this one. And, as one of my brothers pointed out earlier, the field goal was a 23 yard kick. If you move it back 15 it is only a 38 yarder . . . not even close to being out of range. As soft as our D plays in situation like that the 15 yards meant nothing.Yeah Chad's antics drive me crazy from time to time too. I wish he'd flip the ball to the official and move on. But this was about firing up himself and by extention his teammates. Everyone is frustrated. Heck Rudi even showed his frustration after he scored early in the game and fired the ball into the stands which I believe he will be fined for. The way some officials go nuts with penalizing for overt celebration I'm surprised that didn't draw a 15 yarder for using the ball as a prop in a celebration (I personally thought it ludicrous that Rolle was penalized last week for his fantastic celebration after his second TD). Good God, it's a game!!!!
