The PatternMaster
Currently most fans think the season is over, talk of a top 5 draft pick have begun and a few MENSA members want to fire Marvin Lewis but can't really name a better coach to replace him.Well rest easy Bengals fans there is still hope, the AFC North is still ours for the taking!!! We have a 1-1 record and still have 4 important games left to play, I'm confident that a 5-1 or 4-2 record in the division will get us into the playoffs. We beat the Ravens who have ruled the roost for many years only to over look the annual celler dwellars and get embarressed. That loss was a tough because we haven't won a game since and the team is not only injured but not playing as a true team yet. Sunday we play the Jets and after that we play the Steelers, if we win the next two games we will be 3-4 and 2-1 in the division and only 1 game under .500 with half of the season yet to play. I think that there is a season to be salvaged and not all hope is lost, if we can just win the division we can go to the playoffs and win the SuperBowl.Do you believe? walzav29
As a mensa member who loves Marvin, but doesn't think he'll get it done here, and wants Bill Cowher would like to point out that the best they can do in the division is 5-1. There are only 3 other teams in the AFC North. We play each twice. Sorry for the sarcasm, but this has been the most annoying season since 2002. Do you think Bill Cowher could win with all of our injuries and suspensions, I honestly don't think Marvin has done a horrible job considering what he's had to work with. If we can get back Jeanty, Brooks, Willie, CPerry for this weekend playing healthy and well for the rest of the season, then the Bengals do have a good chance at a wild card place. It wouldn't hurt at all if Deltha, Hall and JJ play much better too. It wouldn't hurt at all if Henry returns in week 9(any chance the commish will ban him just like Odell..no way). With our current starters, I see no hope to even have a winning season.Division title fantasies are only when on the bong. It just doesn't look like it's in the cards this year.Well that's the beautiful thing about it, we still control our own destiny, the season is still at the point were the Bengals can recover and salvage this season. Noone is happy but we can't just give up and look forward to 2008 with 11 games left to be played, that is madness. The team has to improve, they have to look at what they are doing right and do it better and look at what they are doing wrong and get it right, there is no other other option, failure is not an option!!Hopefully the way this season has started has caught the players a lesson about humility, I think we beat the Ravens on MNF and the guys got full of themselves and went into Cleveland thinking that all we had to do was show up and things haven't been the same since. You have CJ saying things like "The offense should've scored 52 pts", which basically saying the defense is useless and that doesn't help team chemistry but it is what it is. My point is I hope going forward we don't think that we are good enough to show up and get a victory because that seems to be this teams mindset at times, where this team got that idea I don't know because the last time I checked we only got t-shirts and hats for winning the division 2 years ago and you can't be satisfied with that. I think/hope that once we finally get a win, hopefully this week vs. the Jets we will get back on track and start a winning streak like this franchise has never seen. I mean if we can lose 7 of 8 why can't we win 7 of 8, it's not impossible.
HairOnFire
It wouldn't hurt at all if Deltha, Hall and JJ play much better too. I wish you guys would stop throwing Deltha under the bus. The interceptions haven't been there, and I guess that's how we've come to judge CB play in Cincy, but Deltha has played very well this season, and predictions that he'd be a lazy head-case have proven false. In fact, his strip of Larry Johnson was singled out by the crew on NFL Live. Oneal had actually blitzed wide on that play and at one point was about 8 yards behind the LOS and 4 yards behind LJ....yet still made the TD saving strip far downfield. And two weeks prior he practically shut down Randy Moss, who made every one of his big plays when matched against Hall and Joseph. Just saying... Deltha has been fine. As to the rest, Hall has performed exactly as I'd expect a rookie corner to perform, champ one minute and chump the next; JJoe's been disappointing, but lingering foot issues may be impacting his play; Dexter has been Dexter, not great but not bad; Madieu is going to be playing somewhere else next year if he keeps playing like he has been; Nduke has been a pleasant surprise; and is Marvin White still on the team? Just saying...I think Deltha playing decent is a symptom of team knowing they can pick on Leon Hall and, to a lesser extent, JJoe. Deltha has been what everyone has expected but the INT's will only come when they are forced to go his way, ie increased chances TO get a pick, which will cooincide with Hall playing well enough to not be targeted. Just saying...I'm not throwing Deltha under the bus, I'm throwing JJ, Hall and Deltha under a M1A. Statistically the Bengals pass defense is 3rd worst in the AFC and 5th worse in the NFL. Its not just those three, missing NFL quality linebackers doesn't help at all. None the less, those are three....count em three number 1 draft picks back there and by any measure, they aren't getting the job done....not even doing a mediocre job. I'm not an extremist as I do believe Hall and JJ will be studs for us in the years to come however.
mgi
Do you believe?Uh...no. So I was thinking early today, it is kind of fun to suck again. I felt really disoriented when the Bengals were winning anway. Every Sunday is now just a comedy routine; I like comedies--I like to laugh. So no more tears, anger, and cursewords for me this year; just laughter. We finish the season in Miami this year, where we supposed to finish the season last year. And I see it now, on that field after all else is cleared, lying in the middle is Justin Smith's #90.
Jet23
Until I see some semblance of a football team, I refuse to do the math to see what needs to be done to make the playoffs. I know, I know, they have had a lot of injuries. That is one great excuse for the same 'ole, same 'ole next year.Save one magical season, Bengals fans have endured 17 years of putrid football. Common Denominator = Mike Brown. Successful professional teams are so for a reason. What limited success the Bengals have enjoyed was the result of the law of averages and absolute blind luck. At best he is tied for the worst Owner in all of professional sports. Mikey Brown was born on third base and thought he hit a freaking triple! Every Sunday is now just a comedy routine; I like comedies--I like to laugh. So no more tears, anger, and cursewords for me this year; just laughter. The above may seem odd, but I doubt this line of thinking is all that unique. Right or wrong most Bengal fans have reluctantly concluded that this season is lost, and once that outcome is accepted it's only natural that the level of drama is reduced. Besides, there certainly isn't any shortage of Bengal fans who haven't...and never will...get over the past. Thus, it's probably pretty easy for many to shed a few crocodile tears while endlessly uttering I told you so.

Bobcat Bengal
FIRST OF ALL, PatternMaster, you're committing a coach fau paux. That is, play ONE game a time. Stop trying to look further down the schedule. The way the Bengals have played, they or the fans don't deserve that luxury. We don't even know if we'll beat the Jets. Second, every time a scenario such as the playoffs are in our hands, we blow it.
