Santucci? do we need a 3rd center? I guess he can play guard if people keep getting hurt.

Rucker? uh, no comment necessary, not when we need linebackers.

We are carrying 7 safeties at this point. Sure it is due to the linebackrs being in the ER but Busing? Jones? Kilmer? dudes are ST fodder at best. Kilmer's injuries are costing us a spot for sure. You tell me there are not a few guys on the street who can come in and take his ST spot...

My answer is Rucker...injured, ineffective and anonymous since he as arrived. His spot is the biggest waste.

#1 would be John Thornton. The guy does nothing when he is in there. I rather give Toeiana a shot than keep running Thornton and his big contract out there. He was one of the worst free agent acquisitions of all time.

We can't let Thornton go. I don't care if he's the worst DT in football...we need more people in the locker room wtih his kind of attitude.

I vote Levi Jones.

interesting answer.

Apart from a bad knee re-hab, and the emergence of Whitworth, leaving Levi a tad bitter, he has been a very good player. So good in fact, they extended him, thus making sure we "own" him for quite some time.

Ouch. On ESPN they showed about five or so clips of Jarred Allen doing his thing....prompting Mike Ditka to say "I don't know who the blocker is but he doesn't even know the basics of playing offensive tackle."

Levi was a fine LT for several years. How did he deteriorate so fast!?!

I know he's injured but if that's all it is, why was he so hot to get back into the starting lineup if he knew he wasn't 100%? Is it all just ego? Or has another fine player gone backward skills wise after putting on the stripes? :o

Tab Perry.

I really liked this guy, but, after his hip injury, he is done. I liked the things they could have done with him--line up at TE or in the backfield, returns kicks, but I am afraid this particiular injury has made him just like the other guy named Perry. WR can't do hip injuries. The cane and walker industry exist because of those types of injuries.

I agree with Shula.... too many to mention.

Guys I would keep:

Whitworth, Stepmotherisabitch, Reggie Kelley, TJ, Kenny Watson, I was gonna put down Ethan K but will he get healthy??

HEY WAIT---

SERIOUS BENGAL PROBLEM -- the medical staff seems to have NO CLUE as to who is sick or not or who needs hot lights and cold steel (aka surgery) or rehab to get them better...... we have so many freakin' walkin' (or sittin') wounded it is unbelievable...........

I cannot think of any lineman on the Bengals who have allowed more sacks than Jones. He is way overrated. Let him go.

I don't care if he is a good lineman (which I think he is). What really bothers me about Levi is the way he ran his mouth when he felt he should be playing. Well, he got what he wanted...

Realistically, I know they can't just let him go...it'd have to be a trade situation. If they could pull it off, though, I'd love to trade him for a decent defensive player, and then get a good lineman in the draft next season.

I think you've almost answered your own question. Levi has been a very solid LT until recently, but I think he's been fighting injuries for almost a full calendar year now. Eventually the missed practices start to show up as degraded technique and conditioning. I'm also tempted to add that Allen has always given Levi problems even when perfectly healthy, but I can't seem to forget how Levi gave up a sack almost immediately in the Patriot game. All things considered he's probably not ready to play against anyone right now.

As for why he wanted back in the lineup so badly, I think ego does have alot to do with it. There's no position more important than LT and Levi has lost his hold on the starters job.

Setting aside whether it's a good idea or not, they obviously can't do anything now because the cap hit is prohibitive.

However, assuming the guy who does the cap numbers over at go-bengals is close to the target, cutting or trading Levi isn't a big killer next year.

In terms of salary + amortized bonus he'll probably have a cap hit of about $4.5m. However, the remaining bonus to be accounted for should "only" be about $5.1m. So the net cap hit would be under a million. If they cut him instead of trading him and did the cut as a June 2 cut we'd actually pick up a couple million in cap space.

(In case anyone cares the situation with Willie is even better; again if the go-bengals numbers are right we'd probably pick up about $4m in cap space by giving Willie the boot.)
