BengalsMan3203 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 I know everyone who is a bengals fan is going nuts about last week... They want to see Marvin out of town... Chuck out of town (yah me 2) and other stuff to happen...Levi traded for picks...Chad to stop doing stupid things and play football...But really... Does that have to happen??? No... People are just over reacting here...Out Record from 1991 to 2002 is 55-132... Thats RIGHT 55 Wins over a 12 year period...From 2003-2006 is 35-29.....We have 63% of the 55 wins in 4 years... It took us 12 years to get those 55 wins!!Listen... I know we are under performing but most of us have to learn to give it time...When Mr. Lewis came into town he did what he had to do to get a team onto the field.. Signing whoever he could to fill gaps... He drafted young, good defensive players... (Thurman, Pollock, Williams) in order to get the D into shape... Those haven't worked out as of now.. Will Pollock ever play again? Will Thurman see the light of day in the NFL? Williams will he return to his 2005 form? Who knows but those were key players who should of been developing to become super stars while the gap fillers played... I will leave you with this... Firing Marvin Lewis isn't the answer... Thats for sure... Whats the answer? I'm not sure... I cannot tell you... Maybe Mikey will open his wallet and get us a big name FA this year... Or we'll land a stud in the draft like Merriman or something like that... But don't call for Marvins Head... It won't do anything but put this team back into a freefall for 12 years...Remember... The play that changed my life... and probably your life too. Quote
Stripes Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 People are just over reacting here...Agreed, though it's hard to blame them after losing such an absurd game to such an inferior team. Five weeks from now the season will look completely different and so will the message board. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Listen... I know we are under performing but most of us have to learn to give it time...You listen. I've been giving them since 1968. That's almost fourty freakin' years for crissakes. Time is up. WIN NOW! Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Hey if Marvin can get us to the Superbowl, great. I love Marvin. I love him for bringing respectablility to our team. But this is his make or break year for me. He's had 3 8-8 seasons. Any other place in the NFL, and he would have been canned already. But Cincinnati is so accustomed to sucktitude, that they'll let 8-8 pass. Not me. Marvin to me, outside of one season, has proven to be nothing other than mediocre and it's bulls**t that he's given a free pass. If he doesn't take us to the playoffs this year, can him. I'd love for our guy to be Marvin, cause like I said, I like him. But I don't care if you have to bring in Kin Jung Il or whatever his name is. If he can take us to a Superbowl, hire him. I want to win, damn it. I'm tired of mediocrity.Edit: I take back my statement where it said outside of 1 season, Marvin's sucked. I'll give him two years. Turning a team from 2-14 from 8-8 is impressive. Quote
Stripes Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Most NFL coaches would absolutely not be canned with the same resume Marvin has compiled with the Bengals. That's plain untrue. I'm not saying that his win/loss record is great, but it's far from bad. Outside the powerhouse franchises, any coach would stick around under the same circumstances. Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 If Tony Duny went into Indianapolis, and went 8-8, 8-8, 11-5, then 8-8 again, and had another failure of a season this year, then yeah, he'd be fired.Jim Mora took ATL to the NFC Championship in his first year and had a bad year in year two and got fired. (If I'm mistaken on that, I'm sorry, but I know he had a short leash)Art Shell got fired after one year even though Vince Lombardi couldn't have coached that team to 5 wins. Marty Shottenhiemer went 14-2 last year, but got canned.NFL coaches do not have, in any sense of the word, a long leash. Just because Marvin can take a historically bad franchise and get them to 8-8 every year doesn't mean he should be an exception. If Marvin doesn't get us to the playoffs this year, and he isn't fired, he should be washing Mike Brown's feet for the rest of his life. HoosierCat Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Listen... I know we are under performing but most of us have to learn to give it time...You listen. I've been giving them since 1968. That's almost fourty freakin' years for crissakes. Time is up. WIN NOW! Yup. I'm tired of the excuses. I'm tired of the ridiculously uneven play. And I am especially tired of watching an offense full of Pro Bowlers get wasted year after year because the D is consistently abysmal. Chad and TJ are in their 30s. Willie is one his last foot (literally). Rudi has carried the ball about 15 seasons' worth in the last few years. They are not going to last forever. Quote
BengalsMan3203 Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 Year 1 - 8-8 - Going 8-8 after a year of 2-14 with Jon Kitna as your QB. Not have anyone but Chad Johnson and Rudi... Awesome year. Year 2 - 8-8 - Carson Palmers rookie year... Very shaky start... Palmer gets hurt later in the year and is shut down... When Palmer got hurt the team was looking great and was about to make a run... It was like it 'clicked' and Palmer understood the game and the NFL slowed down for him.Year 3 - 11-5 - Playoff year ending in shame with a knee injury to Palmer... Good year.Year 4 - 8-8 - Palmer coming back from a major knee injury leading his team down the strech to get into the playoffs but due to speical teams and speical teams ONLY they didn't get into the playoffs. Can't Miss an Extra Point and a FG... Over all Marvin Lewis has done a WONDERFUL Job... And if the Bengals would cut ties with Marvin you KNOW someone is going to snatch him up in a heart beat to run their team... I know one thing is for sure... I know i'd hate to fire Marvin and see him take over the Browns, or any other team we have to face every year...I mean lets talk what Marvin has OVER come to get to those 8-8 seasons... I just sit here and shake my head over people who want to fire him... Quote

Either Marvin gets it done, or Mikey should go find someone else who can. Quote

I just sit here and shake my head over people who want to fire him...With all those high draft picks to work with, how hard really was it? I don't know about anyone else, but in Marvin I no longer trust. Get deep into the playoffs, and that might change. Make all the excuses you want for the Bengals coaching staff, but the free ride is over IMHO! Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Marvin was basically handed Carson Palmer, a future HOF in my opinion, when he took over the job. What would he have done if he wouldn't have had that pick? Where would he be today? Like Billy said, In Marvin I No Longer Trust. Show me a deep run in the playoffs Marvin. Show me you're not mediocre. Quote
Stripes Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 He did make the pick, and hence he deserves credit for doing so. Carson wasn't the only player in that discussion. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 He did make the pick, and hence he deserves credit for doing so. Carson wasn't the only player in that discussion. That was the biggest "No Brainer" pick of the 2003 draft. Not even Mike Brown could Eff that one up. Quote
Stripes Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Then credit Marvin and Mikey for making the "no-brainer" pick (I don't agree with that at all) instead of taking a risk on someone else. They made the pick, they get the credit. Simple as that. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Then credit Marvin and Mikey for making the "no-brainer" pickDone. Now don't waste it with crappy defensive game planning which is IMHO what they've done so far. Quote
BengalsMan3203 Posted September 23, 2007 Author Report Posted September 23, 2007 Thank goodness neither one of our opinions matter much.. Quote
