walzav29
Last year the Colts allowed 44 pts to the Jags after losing to the Titans on the Road. Let downs happen after big wins. The young players on this team have to get better. Injuries hit every team at some point in every year. The Bengals are hurt right now. The special team injuries are requiring starters to expend energy on special teams. This team will make the playoffs.
ShulaSteakhouse
I hope so. Time to put some casts/wraps on some body parts and get these guys out there - too many softies on this team.Soft would be a word to describe the Bengals' right now. You are comparing the Browns team to a Jags team that was one game from going to the playoffs to the Browns, one of the worst teams in football. That defensive line who did not touch Anderson all day is not on Special Teams, the defense starts with the d-line if their not putting pressure on the quarterback and he is comfortable as hell back there eventually he's going to make plays you can't make it to the NFL as a quarterback without a lick of talent. You name me one of those defensive linemen that are on Special Teams and I will believe what you are saying. That defense should not have been tired anyway with all those big plays they were giving up, it's not like Cleveland was doing long drives it was big play plays most of the day. I envy you guys who live in the Cincinnati area, I would love to hear what the radio guys are saying about them, I'm not allowed to stream radiostations at work to hear them. mgilgris
Agreed, the comparison is lacking. The Jags were a contender, the Browns however have been looked at as the worst team in football and got shut out by the Steelers.
walzav29
The point is that any division game on the road can be tricky. OK the Jags were contenders, but they ran for over 400 yards. The Jags didn't make the playoffs. Obviously this defense isn't a top 20, but the worst in the league? I don't think so. I live in Michigan though.

With the Bengals it's a never ending nightmare, and I want to wake from it! Don't compare what happened momentarily to a solid football team to the one we're stuggling with right now. ArmyBengal
I tried to get up this morning and put this behind me, but I can't. First off, my team mates are just loving this one. Especially the Steelers fan of the crew. Next, it was just an embarrassment. This may have been acceptable when we had crappy teams, but this team is looked at as a contender for the Division and going deep into the playoffs, so this is unacceptable considering who we lost to.Next, this type of thing happens more often than not to this defense and I just don't understand how year after year, the organization feeds us the same line about the players needing to execute. Excuse me, but isn't that where coaching comes into bear on a situation ?? This is bullsh*t and while winning the next two would definitely help the situation, this loss will be a thorn in my side all season long !!!WHODEY !!! HoosierCat
Next, this type of thing happens more often than not to this defense and I just don't understand how year after year, the organization feeds us the same line about the players needing to execute. Excuse me, but isn't that where coaching comes into bear on a situation ?Yup. 90% of execution is preparation, and if there's anything that describes how the Bengals D looked Sunday, it's "unprepared." Apparently, they thought they would just breeze in, play a vanilla D against a struggling team, the picks and bad plays would come, and they'd trot home with a win. Then, when Cleveland actually started rolling, they had no plan B. And the players on the field panicked, which only led to more of those mental errors we all heard about. Can it be fixed? Of course -- in fact, it's been fixed repeatedly throughout the last 3 or 4 years. Problem is that it never stays fixed. Oh well. As "defensive captain" John Thornton "muses" on da site today..."If we're going to be an up-and-down team, then we should play a lot better next week."Yippee, eh? The PatternMaster
The Colts also lost to Texans and gave up over 150 yards to future college HOF running back Ron Dayne, but when the time came to step up they did. But that probably has more to do with Bob Sanders playing, whenever Sanders plays their defense is that much better. We need playmakers on the dline and in the secondary, right now our playmakers are giving up big plays instead of making them.
walzav29
OK, so I'm reaching. what do you want to do? It is the same old, same old. Each of Marvins years have had a complete defensive breakdown.2003 - 382004 - 482005 - 452006 - 492007 - 51There have been 2 different defensive coordinator's. The only constant is Marvin. I am still with Marv. He worked wonders and made his name as DC with Ravens and Skins. The only thing I can point to is not being more aggresive on the free agent fron when it comes to Big Names on the defensive side of the ball. Yes. I am grasping at straws. Do we give up on the season after a 1-1 record? What about Marv's 1st year when they started 1-4? Are we worse off now? The defense needs to play better, but Hall is a rookie and Caleb played like ass.

CarsonCity
I think what everyone is forgetting is that while the Browns are a bad, bad team, they are still our division rival. And recently, outside of the 30-0 spanking we put on them last year, they've played us pretty tough. Maybe it's matchup problems. Maybe they get pumped up (outside of the 30-0 game) to play their in-state rival. Hell, the Browns almost (and should have) beat the Ravens last year. And 2 years ago when the Ravens were bad and the Steelers won the SB, the Ravens nearly swept the season series. While there's really no good excuse for this loss, it's important not to forget that sometimes, when playing your division rivals, crazy sh*t like this can happen no matter how much better one team actually is than the other. walzav29
I agree with you CC. Humiliated yes, but let's just say for the sake of saying that the Bengals win against Seattle. Then beat the Pats. The bengals sit at 3-1 having beat the best team in football. It's still a possibility. It's week 2 for Christ's sake! BengalszoneBilly
I agree with you CC. Humiliated yes, but let's just say for the sake of saying that the Bengals win against Seattle. Then beat the Pats.IMHO (and probably a horde of others) the Bengals have ZERO chance beating either of those teams if the defense continues to play as they did against Cleveland. (Duh!) The Arizona Cardinals beat the Seahawks by playing solid pass defense versus Hasselbeck, and containing Alexander and their running attack. If Bresnahan continues his "genius" in guiding the Bengals defense with his BS vanilla scheming, the Bengals will be beaten by the Seahwawks, and utterly obliterated by New England!
