membengal Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Good stuff. I missed it, but McAlister has the two segments linked on his blog and available to listen to on the left hand side down about halfway.Well worth a listen if you missed it.http://www.wcky.com/pages/lancesBlog.html Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Thanks, mem.Man, Lap is high on Nduke, isn't he? Watch for him as an LB in the nickel and expects him to bump Dexter out of a starting job at some point this season. I hope he's right; I was never that high on Jackson to begin with and it'd be nice to have a defensive version of the TJ pick. Quote
membengal Posted August 23, 2007 Author Report Posted August 23, 2007 Yeah, he is apparently super-high on Ndukwe. Apparently the Bengals had both Ndukwe and White as roughly third round talent, had White slotted just one highter than Ndukwe, and couldn't believe Ndukwe was still there in the 7th and took him then. Ndukwe is certainly physical. Nice to see so far. Quote

I liked Dexter until he whiffed on a statuesque QB standing in the endzone. Quote
Kazkal Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Dexter was ok in tampa but age has cought up with him. Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Jackson certainly didn't live up to my fears of being Ohalete II, but given his career history I figured he'd struggle to stay healthy and contribute...which he did. But in any event he was always a stopgap and if Nduke can surpass him, so much the better. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Most scouting evaluations described White as a raw player who lacked experience, but praised his hard work and ability to learn...noting that he improved every season. By comparison, Ndukwe was often described as being a little stiff, but more experienced playing in a pro-style defense. As a result I'm not sure how suprising it is that Ndukwe has impressed early. The real question regarding both players is just how high their ceiling is, how quickly they can get there, and if they're versatile enough to get major playing time at the same time. And on that last point, I'm not at all suprised that Ndukwe is getting a look in the pass defending SS/LB role that the Bengals have always loved, but wouldn't have guessed a safety corp missing Kevin Keasviharn is now seeing Madieu Williams getting reps at the nickle CB spot. Does that mean they had Jeff Rowe ranked as a 2nd/3rd rounder? I guess they thought more highly of Dan Santucci as well, who we have heard nothing about.....My point is, I never really understand draft rankings after the fact.... Quote

Apparently they felt they needed an understudy for Palmer more than they needed another safety. Obviously, they don't expect Doug Johnson to be a long-term solution at that spot. Can't imagine why. membengal Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 AMC: My impression from listening to Lap on that segment was that the Bengals were shocked when Ndukwe was still the 7th round, and, after filling needs in 6 and 7, figured extra help at S was the right move, even though they had already selected White. It amazes me how they have guys slotted in an exact order yet a guy will fall two or three rounds. Or the other way when a guy is projected as 2nd or 3rd round talent and goes in the first round.Hopefully Ndukwe will be that draft day steal that we always seem to come up with every few years. hrod382 Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 I can't see Ndukwe starting this year, seems like he has much left to be desired in coverage. In the box though I am already confident in him, he's got a nose for the ball and flat out hits. I haven't seen him just tackle someone this preseason, he always clobbers them.I think White can take over for Dexter, either way I don't see Dexter starting all year... Mostly because he's bound to get injured but also White is talented. Quote
Stripes Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Either way we'll have the necessary insurance when Madieu gets snatched away next offseason.I kid, I kid! Quote
