jjakq27
For a long time I felt that four games were needed in order to prepare for the season. However the last few years I have felt that the last game has become a joke. With all of the on-field instruction that takes place between April and the opening of training camp, I think the length of camp could be cut by at least one week if not two. Most of the roster spots are taken already and the teams are only trying to fill out the bottom of their roster. I think this has been brought up here before but I was wondering what others think. My scenario would be to start the camps at the same time but only play two games. So last night would be the last game before the start of the season. But the teams would have one week off (the current third week) before starting the season. Then the game that gets lopped off becomes the opener of the regular season for a total of 17 games. The drawback is that the owners would lose 1 game of revenue in the process and having an odd number of games means an uneven amount of home and away games for each team. But I think having more games count would be beneficial. Perhaps adding two games to the schedule and expanding the roster by a few guys would make it even better. The extra guys would help in the event of injuries and then the teams would have 9 at home and 9 on the road.
BengalszoneBilly
As good as that sounds, I just don't see any of that happening.
Stripes
I do think three preseason games would be enough for NFL teams to make proper roster decisions, and training camp could always begin a week earlier. I don't really see it as a major issue though. I wouldn't be a huge fan of an expanded regular season, given statistical records already in place (thought the NFL did overlook that issue once already when they increased it from 14 to 16 games). HoosierCat
As part of the idea of the NFL doing more international games now that NFL Europe is kaput, there's been some talk about reducing the preseason to 3 games, and adding a 17th game to the season. That game would, for both teams involved, be at a neutral site -- Germany, Mexico City, London, Bejing, whatever (it's also been suggested some of these "neutral" games could be played in LA, finally getting the league back into that market). So every team would still have 8 home and away games, plus the "international" game, with byes coming after the "international" game to offset the impact of travel. And you still have the same total number of preseason + regular season games, 20, so there's no revenue loss. It sounds like a workable idea to me. ArmyBengal
I still absolutely HATE the idea of an overseas game !!! Has anyone else traveled abroad ?? Jetlag is a MOTHERF*CKER !!! Anything in Europe is at least a 6 hour time change for the Bengals and more for other teams. I've heard Marvin, as well as other coaches mention the difficulty in playing Monday night games followed by the next Sunday game. This just seems like to much to put on the players in order to get ready for the following weeks game. I don't want to see an even more tired team take the field in order to play games overseas. Just my thoughts on that subject...WHODEY !!!
