kurgan74
For the first time in many years, it seems as if the Bengals have some ver nice depth and talent on the DL. My guess is they will carry 8, but it appears as if there will be some tough cuts. My guess on the final 8:John ThortntonKenderick AllenMatt ToeaniaDomatko PekoJustin SmithBryan RobinsonRobert GeathersFrostee RuckerMy guess is Michael Myers (shame with the new Halloween movie coming out) and Fanene (3rd member of the Bengals Samoan Sack Team) ) will not make the squad. derekshank
Myers will make the team before Allen or Toeania do. My guess is that Toeania is on the PS... and I agree with you about Fanene, with the possibility of an injury opening up a roster spot for him. JoePong
There is no question Myers will make the team. I would hate to lose Rucker or Fanene. They both have a lot of potential.
Kazkal
DE:Justin,Jumpy,Rucker,Brob(ug I really hope someone beats out Brob a rookie or faneneDT:Peko,JT,Toeania then myers or Allen I don't really care both are vet's no one else wanted.DT/DE:FaneneIf we keep 9 I'd say fanene is the 9th man,Alot people saying toe will be PS but I think either he's stored on IR or makes final roster we need a young man to be the future next to peko.PS,If we keep keep Brob,Allen and Myers then cut Fanene or toe I'll be pissed we don't need that many 30+ dlinemen on the team I rather have a young guy who lacks experience then a crappy aged DT taking up a spot. JoePong
When did Toeaina get hurt? Damn, this team really is cursed!
Kazkal
Um he didn't but he doesn't have to be for team to store him on IR,It could be a stubbed toe and they could IR him.
Stripes
DT - John Thornton, Domata Peko, Kenderick Allen, Michael MeyersDE - Justin Smith, Robert Geathers, Bryan Robinson, Frostee RuckerIf they go with a 9th guy, it'll probably be Fanene over Toeaina simply because he's more versatile. Spor_tees
Don't forget Eric Henderson that could be kept as a DE/LB. He could be the reason that B-Rob doesn't make the team.
TJJackson
DT Michael MyersDT Kenderick AllenDT Domatko PekoDT/DE Jonathan FaneneDT/DE Bryan RobinsonDE Justin SmithDE Robert GeathersLB/DE Eric Henderson (counts half as a LB, half as a DL)PS: DT Matt Toeania, DE Xzavie JacksonCUT: Frostee, ThorntonPossible: waiver wire pickup of a DE, even more possible a rookie FA DE will be signed to the PSSynopsis: The Bengals usually keep 16 front seven (LB and DL) and will keep 15 this year, with Henderson counting as both the 8th DE and 8th linebacker. This will allow them to carry the extra WR they'll need til week 9. Thornton is probably no better than the other DTs they have but his cap number is a LOT higher. Frees up money to extend Madieu. Frostee...I think it best that I reserve comment :-)Aside: your seven linebackers (in addition to Henderson) are: Ahmad Brooks, Ed Hartwell, Rashad Jeanty, Landon Johnson, Caleb Miller, Earl Everett, and Andre Frazier. Muncy to Practice Squad. Not at all improbable that an experienced LB cut elsewhere late in camp (particularly if that LB is a proven aboe-average ST player) could become a BengalAddendum: any single injury changes this
sparky151
I think only Smith, Geathers, and Peko are locks. Brob is old and Smith might leave as UFA after this year so probably Rucker sticks around. If he stinks, Fanene gets the roster spot. Very possible both make the team. At DT, Thornton needs to outplay Allen and Myers or he's gone. Toeaina makes the regular squad if he plays decently in preseason. Team doesn't want to have 3 of 4 DTs on the roster over 30. TJJackson
Without going into my expected "rant" mode on Rucker....I don't know how anyone can consider him as a replacement for Justin Smith when he basically hasn't been able to get on the field this year, and missed virtually all of his rookie season last year as well. To replace someone, you have to - at bare minimum - be able to get onto the fieldAs it stands, Xzavie Jackson has a better chance of replacing Smith, by virtue of getting on the field, see http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/gamebook/NFL_20070809_CIN@DET. I am not touting Xzavie here, I am only saying that at least he is healthy enough to play.

It's weird that Rucker is seemingly a "no-brainer" on so many people's lists to make the team when, as far as I know, he has not practiced or played in about a year. Am I mistaken? Kazkal
Just because he was a pick I don't like rucker I don't think he'll be a future starter but I do think minus injury he'll probably make DE since were so weak their in depth. markymark69
My DL is much like the original post with the exception of Myers ahead of Toeaina. Toeania could get the final spot, because I'm not completely sold on Rucker, simply because I haven't seen him. Fanene will be a number's casualty.I agree that Xzvie Jackson could find a spot. He did some good things in the Lions game while we still wait for Rucker to get on the field. My group: Smith, Geathers, Thornton, Robinson, Myers, Allen, Peko and whoever wins out between Rucker, Toeania and Jackson. I realize that it's DT heavy, but Robinson can play both spots, that also helps Rucker and Jackson.Toeania likely PS and Fanene gets cut. Players on IR get full salaries. Players on the PS get much less. Not all players are eligible for the PS anyway. No player is going to complain about going to IR instead of being cut unless he's got heavy incentives in his contract.
GapControl
i dare anyone to give me reason why thornton belongs on this team. when considering his salary, age, and cap hit, plus the fact that all of the defenses he has started on here have consistently sucked on the line... If they didn't want him on board, they would have already cut him, like they did to Sam Adams, or the other vets they let go.
