bengalsfan17
After the each preseason game i want to evaluate each rookie's performance on the field.......Leon Hall - Was burned on three passes, will be better thoughKenny Irons - had a nice run, but then got injured, cant any of our speed backs stay healthy! Ahmad Brooks - was very quiet but didnt look too bad out there, in the right placesMarvin White - had a nice interception, had a nice hit on special teams, but got beat a little bitJeff Rowe - He looked very good when he had to throw the ball, very poisedMatt Toeaina - had an interception for the touchdown after a tipped ball, but quiet other than thatNdukwe - had some good tackles, but got beat on a long touchdown and more, similar to his notre dame careerSantucci - he looked horrible on blocking, missed block after missed block, he should not be on the teamOverall not too good of performances out of the rookies, but its only the first preseason game
markymark69
I agree with your assessments of each player. I think the Bengals keep everybody by Santucci. He did not help his cause at all. Ndukwe and White will most likely be primarily SP and Hall will not start right away unless Joseph can't go when the bell rings for real.Rowe looked better than I thought he would, but he was playing against the Lions No. 3's. Unfortunate injury for Irons, hopefully it is not as serious as is suspected, we need him.
kingwilly
Leon Hall - looked ok for a first go. he was working Calvin, who is a beast. Hall needs time and will be fine.Kenny Irons - ran OK until the carpet monster/weird hitch step grabbed him...man, I hope he is OKAhmad Brooks - looked OK but not making plays...ran the D fineMarvin White - got out of position a bit too much, burned on the long one, but played well in run supportJeff Rowe - I'd like to see him get more time to assess. looked smooth vs the 3rd tierMatt Toeaina - had a career in a game...big guys running back TD's is sweetNdukwe - blew his cover two assignment frequently. tackled well on ST...still giving me the Ohalete flashback momentsSantucci - looked kinda confused...c'mon alexander, coach him up! ShulaSteakhouse
Irons done for the seasonTests have confirmed that Bengals’ rookie RB Kenny Irons suffered a season-ending left knee injury during Thursday night’s preseason game at Detroit, head coach Marvin Lewis said today.Lewis said the diagnosis was a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Lewis said the Bengals’ medical staff anticipates a full recovery for Irons, and that Irons will be ready to participate in next spring’s mini camps and OTA practices.Irons, from Auburn, was Cincinnati’s second-round selection in the 2007 NFL draft.-----------------------------Time to pick-up a FA when someone's cut I guess hopefully. Sick of this.

ShulaSteakhouse
That's what - 2 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks in the last 3 years lost to injury and suspensions? (none of them will be playing this year most likely - unless Perry comes back in November or December)Wow.
GregCook
What a lousy game. First I listened to it on Sirius with the Cincy broadcast team. Can there be a more lifeless duo than them? Made the game very hard to visualize. With Irons down, they must find an effective 3rd receiver who is a scoring threat. I doubt they'll find anyone for the backfield that is two dimensional like Irons or CPerry. This makes losing Henry for minimum 8 games all the more costly. No Henry, Odell, CPerry and Irons. Who's next?

(none of them will be playing this year most likely - unless Perry comes back in November or December)Wow.Yeah, the Bengals have had very mixed results on day 1 of the draft in the Marvin era.Of 5 first round picks, Pollack looks to be out all year and Perry for half of it, at least.Of 6 second round picks, Odell is suspended and will probably never wear stripes again, Irons is gone for the year, and Steinbach is in Cleveland. (And a 4th second round pick, Ratliff, is on very shaky ground IMHO and may not make the final roster this year.)And of 5 third round picks, Kwash is in NE, Rucker hasn't done anything but take up space on the injury list, Henry's out for half the year and is one screwup away from Odellville, and Caleb Miller has been a career backup. Landon is probably the brightest spot.In a way, tho, that's a testament to coaching and to good picks on day 2. That the Bengals have seen so many high picks not contribute, and still been a competitive, even playoff-caliber, squad, is pretty amazing. GregCook
Hearing Hall get toasted a few times last night brought back memories of the Ohio State game and Ted Ginn. I hope he doesn't have too many more nights like those. With the offense taking a hit last night, I feel that its the defense that will surprise and bail out Cincy this year. They have good depth and good players, Hall's night notwithstanding.
kingwilly
I'd like them to give Green a try as a 3rd down back...I can visualize him running a screen well and rolling -out after making a block.they really need versatility...RB/KR/PR... At 208 he has some size, and the Bengals have lined him up as a back a couple times before. And we know he can catch the ball. Dunno what his blocking or pass protection skills look like, tho. But a set with, say, Chad, TJ and Brazell at wideout and Tab in he backfield gives Carson an embarassment of weapons.

That the Bengals have seen so many high picks not contribute, and still been a competitive, even playoff-caliber, squad, is pretty amazing. That would be glass-half-full....glass-half-empty would be to notice how many of our best players (Levi, Willie, Chad, TJ, Rudi, Justin) are getting a little old. Could imply we're living on borrowed time if we don't get some picks in here to pan out. Not saying these guys are ready for pasture, but still, 6 starters are kind of old, pre-Marvin, draft picks.Recent, good day 2 picks? Geathers, maybe Peko, maybe Guy-chick. I'll give credit for Jeanty though he technically doesn't count. Other than that, we don't have any recent Day 2 starters that I can think of. (4 with Jeanty)Recent day 1 starters? JJoe, Whitworth, Madieu, Carson, JJohnson. Hopefully Hall and Brooks. Landon if Brooks doesn't cut it. (6-7)FAs/trades: Dexter, Hartwell, Kelly, Williams. Deltha if Hall or JJoe can't go. (4-5)So, in the end, Day 1 is still giving us more than day 2. I'm more concerned about the old-assed FAs we have to sign (Dexter, Hartwell) and the fact that we still have Thornton, as a result of not fixing that in the draft. And I do think that the lack of productivity we'll get from the 2005 draft this year could hurt.
J24
Will Be fine, Irons Loss will hurt our explosiveness on offense but he is still only our #2 Back a palyer to keep an eye to replace Irons would be JJ Arington he is fast and he also has good hands but has not lived up to his billing of his 2rd pick in 05 for Airizona if he gets cut I think he would be a nice pick up for cincy. Gawdalmighty.Do you think AZ will actually cut Arrington? If so, I'd be all about that. It's not like Edge has looked great out there, their line sucks. He could be decent, who knows? Not saying these guys are ready for pasture, but still, 6 starters are kind of old, pre-Marvin, draft picks.Oh, I agree, I've been pointing out the aging core of the team for a while.Recent, good day 2 picks? Geathers, maybe Peko, maybe Guy-chick. I'll give credit for Jeanty though he technically doesn't count. Other than that, we don't have any recent Day 2 starters that I can think of. (4 with Jeanty)Well, Jeremi Johnson was a 4th rounder. Stacy (another 4th) is our starting LG. And Koo (7th) may be going if Willie can't. On offense this season, it looks like we'll open with two of Marvin's day 1 picks (Carson and Whitworth) and 3-4 of his day 2 guys.On D right now, it's Marvin's day 2ers Peko and Geathers (and if you want, Jeanty) against his day 1's JJoe, Landon and Madieu. The next breakout guy could be a day 1 like Hall, a day 2 like White or Nduke -- or a UDFA like Hype Henderson. If history is any guide I would put my money on White. The 4th round has, for the most part, been very good to the Bengals. We've nabbed Jeremi Johnson, Geathers, Bluto, Stacy and Peko, all of whom are starters this year, against just two busts, Askew and Dennis "the unluckiest man in the universe" Weathersby. ShulaSteakhouse
I will say Marvin and the Tobin team has done well in the 4th round of late.Don't think you can get much better than Peko and Geathers at that spot. White has some potential too obviously. Now if they could just stop drafting backup/3rd down Rb's in the 1st and 2nd round.....
chrishcovga
I'm a Bengals fan, but even I know our team is cursed. We can't have a good offense with a good defense. We can't have a good defense ('83, 2001) and a good offense. They won't hire me to draft for them, and that's the reason why we fail each year. Injuries are a part of the game, well it's time to only play the backups and guys that have absolutely no shot at making the roster for the rest of the season, because Kenny Irons is the first of many important injuries to hit this team this preseason.
