Bengals at Lions

Wow, a lot of you guys are overreacting to this game. Evaluating preseason performance is a lot easier if you just ignore the score completely and focus on individuals. Most experienced NFL coaches aren't even trying to win, so the score becomes virtually meaningless.

And what is up with people complaining that their kicker only went 3/4 from beyond 45 yards? Christ, get some perspective. Forget griping, you should all be kneeling down and puckering up; Graham can bring it from long range better than most kickers in the league.

Ugh. Kicker-hatred is a pet peeve of mine. There hasn't been a kicker in NFL history who lines up for the game winner and suddenly 'turns it on'. Its a crap shoot by nature, learn to deal with it.

Crap shoot my ass. Give me a break. Tell the Colts and Pats that. And who is "focusing" on the score? Who exactly?

This team missed the playoffs last year because Graham couldn't make a rather NFL routine 35 yarder. He is paid well to do just that when they need him to.

They compete for jobs like anyone else. So please spare me the lowered standards/expectations. It's all too Bungle-like.

I'm more worried about St. Louis choking than Opie. I was right behind the post for the Pittsburgh FG and it was dead down the middle before knuckling right. Now, the bad snaps in crunch time, that bothers me.

Sorry but one preseason game is not enough for me to call for Rowe to replace Doug Johnson. I don't want a rookie picked in a 5th round backing up Palmer. He has every opportunity to prove he's capable of that in time, but not yet.

Johnson got off to a horrid start, but he picked it up later.

Rokie or not, he our perform Doug and he only played 2 minutes.

Pre season is just that PRESEASON!

This just puts guys in a game situation against other qualified players. Last year it was great winning all 4. Winning them really means nothing. We have so many positions to look at that we have to play everybody to get a feel for who is going to even make the team.

Iron out the wrinkles and fill the roster.

Too bad we can't use the "Irons stonger than steel" slogan.

I guess if people want to hinge the season based on winning preseason games......Indy is a prime example.

Shula leading the panty-bunching committee, kingwilly co-chair. Winning matters in the pre-season? What. the. f**k. ever.

Indy last year? 0-4. Worked out OK. Bengals 4-0. Presaged nothing.

Stop making me laugh and point at you two. Unreal.

Ok man, whatver you say. I'm not saying the sky is falling, just saying the weather hasn't changed that much.

I am watching the game again on NFL netwrok and I still feel the same way.

There is plenty of football for us to debate, no need to establish the panty-in-a-bunch committee until we've seen the third game. THEN we can nominate the board of directors.

I was a little ticked at the end of the game because they had that one put away. In the long run it really doesn't matter but I know saying you've won that first game just gives a little confidence.

I do think that they have some things to work on but the offense seemed to have an air of confidence which was good to see. I thought the D-line was more active than in the past which is a big thing as well. I expect an even better performance in the New Orleans game next week

As far as the subs and second strings go, they are what they are. If we get into a position where we are playing lots of them then we are obviously in trouble.

Also I found this article about Jared Lorenzen on Lance's Blog and it looks like either Anthony Wright or Tim Hasselbeck might become available. I am wondering if anyone has any preference to either in case they decide to make a move with Johnson. But again, barring a run like Jeff Garcia's at the end of last year, I think if Palmer goes down, we are done regardless of who is the backup.

That is the perfect way of stating the obvious situation with the Bengals. All this crap we've heard about improved this, and better that, is yet to be observed.

Even PFT has a clue on the subject

The Lions dominated the last 10 minutes of their preseason opener with the Bengals, meaning the guys who'll get cut in Detroit are better than the guys who'll get cut in Cincinnati

Meh.

The preseason game certainly wouldn't reflect it, but I still think the Bengals are a much deeper team than the Lions.
