Besides the Bengals

Recommended Posts

I know I'm gonna catch grief over this, but I'm gonna do it anyways. My other favorite NFL teams is a tie between the Arizona Cardinals, (the local team to where I now reside) and the Cleveland Browns. Why the Browns you may ask? It's because I was a fan of the (then) Paul Brown coached team long before the Bengals were even conceived, and that was all that was on T.V. to watch on Sunday before the Bengals were born in '68. It was a hard transition to make, but make it I did by the end of '69, and I've been a hardcore Bengals fan ever since. What's your story?

I'm not so much a fan of other teams as I am the players for those teams, however, and this will make you laugh... When I was a kid, I had a New Orleans Saints football uniform I would wear around. Use to irritate the living sh*t out of my Dad, but I have just always liked them. So if there was one team I would say I followed (not as much as the Bengals of course) it would be the Saints. Through the 90's and until more recently with the Saints, they were like the Bengals of the NFC, so I could relate to their team on that level as well. I look for the Saints to be the best team in the NFC this year and would also be my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl... Now if their opponent could just be the Bengals, I would be in heaven !!! The Bengals would win 49-0 of course !!!

Nice topic Billy !!!

WHODEY !!!

Back in the pre-Marvin days, you had to choose a team to follow/root for if you were going to watch the playoffs. When Steve Young played for the 49ers, I always wanted them to win. In this decade, I've stuck with the Patriots because of their supposed "team-first" way of doing things. And I always find a way to cheer for whoever is playing the Steelers.

This year, I'll be checking in on the 49ers again because I have Frank Gore (along with Carson) as my keeper in fantasy football.

Of course, none of these passing interests hold a candle to my obsession with the Bengals.

No kidding, helped ease the pain to have a few other players/teams to cheer for. It's also tough being an out-of-towner, you almost have to pick one of the frequently-on-TV teams. I liked Tampa in the late 90s, that defense was awesome.

Usually I'd end up really hating a few teams and pulling against them. That included the Steelers above all others (natch), but I couldn't stand the Rams because Martz was a complete ass, the Ravens because they were a bunch of thugs, and I've never liked Vick. Don't care for Shanahan either (obviously). I'm sick of the Patriots now that they (and their fans) have become so unbearably smug.

I'm also an anti-Redskins fan just to annoy my friends.

I'll start a "Besides The Steelers, Which NFL Team Do You Hate The Most?" thread if it'll make you feel better.

Mine used to be Arizona b/c in high school our team colors was maroon and white so I was kinda partial to the Cards. It just wouldn't have look good on the football field, a kid in maroon and white uni with orange and black cleats! Its just the Bengals and who evers on my FF team now.

The other team I kinda follow is the Redskins. My best buddy is a skins fan and, since they're in the NFC, there's really no rooting conflict. In 2004 when the Bengals were at the 'Skins we took a road trip from the west coast for the in-person "hate date". The first play from scrimmage was CP getting picked on a sideline route. From there it went much better. It was awesome watching the Bengals outclass the Skins. It was the game where Gibbs pulled Brunell for Ramsey to huge cheers from the crowd. About a quarter later they were all booing Ramsey. Good times!

I tend to pull for the Browns mildly when they're not playing Cincinnati as well. That'll probably change when they start having more success though.

I don't care about any other teams nearly to the degree I do the Bengals, but some I find myself rooting for occassionally are the Lions, Cardinals, and Saints.

You sure do have a big spot in your heart for underdogs don't you?

A Steelers fan that is on my team with me (Not a bad guy) made the comment the other day that it use to be so fun to root against Cleveland, but now it's just not the same. I said, "See that's the difference between you and I, you just aren't trying hard enough you f*cking quitter !!!" He didn't appreciate that and that made it all the better !!! F*ck Cleveland and Pittsburgh !!!

WHODEY !!!

Thanks and no worries about the Browns being your other team mentioned, I have many Uncles that are still Browns fans for the very same reason !!!

**cough** queers **cough**

:lmao: Nice one Army!

I have been a Bears fan in the past but mainly because of Jim McMahon, so I kinda followed his stint with the Chargers for a year (wasn't a Chargers fan) I didn't band wagon or anything like that. But then he joined Philly to sit behind Randall Cunningham and watching RC play blew my mind! Loved the Eagles ever since...

I'm 24 now and have been a hardcore Bengals fan for about 7 years. Before that, it was all 49ers. Joe Montana was my idol all through elementary school. I was 5 when the Bengals lost to the 49ers in the SB where Joe led his team to victory, I fell in love with the 49ers and Joe at that moment. Jerry Rice was my man, then Steve Young, then TO. I still like TO to this day. I don't know, it's just something about those colors and the city of SF, the stadium, the history and the players. What's not to like about the SF 49ers? I really like Brett Favre too, I wished he wouldv'e won just 1 more SB.

What's to like about the Niners, thier colors, the city, Steve Young , TO they all blow. Old wounds die hard!

Montana and Rice were two of the all-time greats though.

I learned about Gambling when my dad took my lunch money for a week when the 49's beat the Bengals in the Superbowl, so they're out.

My mom has a picture of me when I was 4 in a NY Jets shirt but that was because that's what she bought at a garage sale, so they're out.

I guess I like the Browns because we get to beat them twice a year!!!

I have to admit that I like the Colts next, but only because I have family that lives in Indy and a couple friends that are big Colts fans as well. Oh, and add to that the fact that I have hung out in Indy for weeks at a time and never had any issue from Colts fans as I wondered around with my Bengals attire. In fact, quite the opposite. The fans there seemed to have a good sense of what it is to be a fan, and yet respect and embrace those who might be outsiders. Uh, and I know you all are aware of my completely opposite experiences in the land they call Pissburgh. After the Colts, well I would have to say the Niners ... again, because I have a good friend who is a Niners fan and we have shared great football conversations over the years. Bottom of the list? Yeah, now that's a tough one. :P
