OchoCinco
Getting rid of Adams didn't help our linebackers out. He took up two blockers most of the time and it by getting rid of him it just made our LB's job a lot harder.
icehole3
I didnt like losing Adams either, but we did draft another kid thats supposed to be like Peko... so that helps some. The key IMO is the Linebackers, Odell, Brooks and Hartwell they must make a contribution or we're done.
DC_Bengals_Fan
Getting rid of Adams didn't help our linebackers out. He took up two blockers most of the time and it by getting rid of him it just made our LB's job a lot harder.Correction: he took up two seats on the bench most of the game given how few plays he was actually in for. I don't think it's that big a deal. DT will be weak for us this year as has been for the last....well, a damn long time. Might have a correlation with the number of day 1 picks we've used there lately (ie, none).Last interior lineman we had who actually kicked ass that I remember was Krumrie. And apparently he's still whooping up on draft picks.
711chad
for the money i dont think sam was worth it i think peko can get the job done for less plus he's younger n who knows he could become a star i saw a lot of upside from peko
HairOnFire
Cutting Sam Adams was a more solid move than the one that put him in stripes, and that's true even if you ignore the idea that he never came close to earning his paycheck. To be perfectly fair, Mike Meyers isn't the long term answer any more than Adams, but he's capable of doing more things and can give a team more snaps. Bottom Line: Signing Sam Adams produced more headlines than plays.

ArmyBengal
This defense will be a "depends" defense...It "depends" on what kind of play we get from the front 4 and will there be a pass rush of any type this year ??It "depends" on what kind of year Madieu is going to have and what's up with JJoe's foot ??It "depends" on which Hartwell is going to show up, injury plagued Atlanta Hartwell, or pro-bowl type Baltimore Hartwell ??It "depends" on what the LB's are going to show as a unit with the possibility of Odell coming back ??It "depends" on what we get from our rookies in Hall and White specifically and what DJak is going to bring ??Well, in my mind that is a lot of "depends", but I will say that if we get at least three of those listed to go in our favor, we could be in for a real treat from our defense this year !!! That being said, if they don't, we could be in for a real piece of sh*t from them as well !!!WHODEY !!!

Sorry but Pollack didn't contribute that much (at this point if he comes back, all we have is hope), sorry to say but he won't be missed as much as if Odell doesn't return, which I'm 99% sure he will. I'm expecting a huge improvement this year from our defense. We're finally Tory-less which means our secondary is already improved as long as Madieu, who's on the edge of losing his position if he doesn't play better, has a good year. He really didn't help Tory's cause at all last year either. The D-Line is stronger than it's been for as long as I can remember. And our LB'ing core has the potential to be a standout force in the NFL. We have some pretty talented guys there... If this defense doesn't improve this season then I'll be sorry to say that there is something wrong with the coaching.

711chad
i think if we can cause a good amount of turnovers that would greatly help our cause...cuz if u really wanna face the facts if u look at the two top teans in the afc in the pats n colts our defense isnt capable of stopping them on a consistent basis...so the question in us getting to the superbowl will be can we put up the points n cause some turnovers to be on the winning side
HoosierCat
I mentioned this a few weeks back in the 2007 schedule thread, but I think it bears repeating here: one thing to keep in mind is that our defense is not going to face very many good offenses in the coming season. The Bengals will face just 2 teams who had a top-10 offense last year. They will face 7 teams who had an offense ranked 20th or worse, as well as the 18th- and 19th-ranked O's from last year.Obviously, some of those offenses may have improved, but right now the sked looks reasonably friendly in terms of its matching our questionable D up against questionable O's a lot. J24
We have the Talent on D but the Question is will they mess this season.the Core of our D is all 25 or under Madieu,Geathers,Brooks,Peko,Joseph , Hall and (Maybe if reinstated and not bump and grinding on a girl) Odell. But the rest of the unit players besides Justin Smith (27) and Ed hartell (29) are over 30 or are 30 Robinson,Myers,Jackson and Oneal. The Bengals Defense was the Rex Grossman of Defenseses last season when they were on their game they were great (7Quarter shutout streak vs Cleveland and Baltimore)when they were Bad they were horriable aka the Chargers, Falcons,Patriots,Saints and colts games. They Need to be more consistant this season if we are going to go to the playoffs and Win the SuperBowl. Its not going to be impossible to improve the defense just look at recent years the 01 Rams went from worst to a top 5 D from the previous year and the Colts in 05 also improved from a below average team to a top 10 unit. The Offense is also going to have to be more efficant this season by converting 3rd Downs 26th last season among offenses)and Rudi Johnson is going to have to get the Ball morel. To make a long strory even longer here are 5 more things that the D will have to do if they want to improve.1.) They have to have a consistant starting MLB in marvins first four seasons the bengals has had 7 different starting MLB last season they had 3 different starters Miller,Brian and Brooks this year Brooks will be the 5th Different starting MLB to open the season in marvins 5 seasons.2.) One of the young Players (Madieu, Geathers,Peko and Joeseph) will have to play up to their full Ability bet on Madieu to really have a great season.3.)Old players are going to have to be healthy this season espically Hartwell and Jackson if they can play like good role players this D can be at least decent.4.) they need to stop looking for turnovers and start forcing three and outs Turn overs are going to come and Go three and outs are more consistant. A three and out at opposing teams 20 is better than getting a lucky INT at our 40.5.) There attitude will have to change from lets not blow this to lets win it we have to be more Agressive or no matter how much of talent we have it will never work. HoosierCat
i jus hope that dosent mean we wont be used to good offenses wen we get to the playoffsEven if it does it may not matter. Last year, for example, only 5 of the top 10 offenses made the playoffs. In the AFC, only 2 of the 6 playoff teams had top 10 O's; the others ranked 11, 16, 17 and 25 in total offense. Not at all. While just 5 of the top 10 offenses made the playoffs last year...just 4 of the top 10 D's made the dance. Only 1 team with a 20+ ranked O made the playoffs last year (the Jets), but 3 teams with 20+ ranked D's made it in...and one of them won the Super Bowl.
