How are you on gameday ??

I thought about this on another thread and wondered what is it that you do come game day ?? Are you a pretty mellow type of fan who enjoys hanging out quietly watching the game ?? Go to the stadium and cheer from a seated position ?? Paint your face and turn into a madman ?? What exactly do you do or what odd things make you tick come game day ??

When I was in San Antonio, I would get the same colored jersey they would be wearing that day on as soon as I woke up and then would head to the local sports bar (Fatso's)... I would order some food so I could get beer early (had to have food in front of you to get beer before noon on Sundays)... I would stake my claim to a seat right in front of the widescreen and be yelling as loud as I could throughout the whole game !!! There were fans from all teams there and I was one of few representing the Bengals, so I would talk sh*t whenever it was appropriate. Those times increased the more beer I drank !!!

When I retire in 2 1/2 years (I'll be 39), this will be moved to the stadium, when I get season tickets for my son and I !!!

So, what's your routine ??

WHODEY !!!

My routine is since I live in Olympia Wa, I get to get up and watch the Buckeye replay at 6:30 AM and then I walk my dog.. Come in watch a western on TV or workout, then the Marvin Lewis Show at 8:30 AM (aint satelite TV the greatest)... Then I watch the CBS Pregame show at 9AM.. Then everyone shut the hell up cuz it's game time!!! Usually my wife will make a special breakfast on Sunday mornings in there somewhere... I retired from the Navy almost 2 years ago myself.. Enjoy it and find something like to do and go for it!!

I have only been able to attend a handful of games, but I do tend to be pretty intense watching the game at home. From kickoff to the final tick of the clock, my entire body is loaded with adrenaline. I can hardly sit or stand still, and will look like a lunatic scratching myself or rocking to and fro. My mood sways like a pendulum along with the progression of the game. A touchdown will send me into a gleeful frenzy, while a turnover will cause me to throw a fit very uncharacteristic of my personality.

I remember a game last season... I believe it was the Bucs game, when my grandmother was visiting the house (she lives in Texas). She's the peaceful, lifelong Christian type. Naturally, she was caught quite off guard when I shouted f**k!!! after a routine false start penalty against Cincinnati.

Good times, good times.

I also can't attend many games because of money, being an out-of-towner, and that I get most of my work hours in on the weekend. But I do try to get to one game a year... and I never miss the game on tv.

As far as my demeanor? I remember the Sunday night game against Jacksonville in '05. Palmer fumbled the ball on the final drive that could have won the game. I fell face down on my living room floor and didn't respond to my wife asking if I was okay for several minutes. I later decided that it was necessary to re-establish my priorities since a football game could cause me such heartache... but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

P.S. TDB... I also dropped the old F-bomb during the TB game - which is very uncharacteristic of me, since like your grandmother, I am also the peaceful, lifelong Christian type. Ah well. I don't think Jesus cares too much about my vocabulary.

Thanks TDB and Derek, that's exactly what I was looking for and I'm still laughing !!! Funny how you can be so calm and collected in your everyday activities and then come gameday, that all goes out the window !!! Ok people, there has to be more out there... What's up ??

WHODEY !!!

I usually try to make 1 or 2 games per year. Church is over at 11:30(usually) and I can get home, change, and just get to the stadium by kickoff. I'm riding up the escalator on the riverside of the stadium during introductions(thats cool).

If I'm not going to the game, we often get LaRosa's pizza and watch the game with the fam. My wife will come running down the stairs to find out why I'm shouting for joy(or in anger)!

Last year, I was at Universal Studios in Fla. during the loss to the Bills. Many of the TV's in the restaurants and the rides were tuned to the game. It was hard to enjoy that day!

I've been a fan all my life (only 21), but have lived in NC. Got to see my first game last year. For the past few years I have done the same thing you did, ArmyBengal, grab my jersey and head down to the sports bar. No beer though as I've been underaged.

I am probably going to be in Europe for this season though, I don't know what I am going to do!

Well I'm in Afghanistan with NO TV, but I'll tell you what I'm doing... My sister got a DVD recordable, so she can burn a show she's watching to DVD and she is going to drop a copy of the game in the mail as soon as it's over. I'll probably get it about a week later, but at least I'll be able to watch the games. When it's happening, I'll probably listen to a stream or the game stuff on ESPN... Not like watching the game as it's happening, but you got to do what you got to do !!!

WHODEY !!!

I don't know what your computer situation is like over there... so you might not be able to take advantage of this, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

http://streamednfl.blogspot.com/ If you are able to download SOPcast or TVU Player and you have a fast enough internet connection, you'll at least be able to watch the game live. It's certainly not HDTV... but it's way better that following it on ESPN.com. Hope it helps.

Oh, and I forgot to respond to the thread. Let`s see, on Gameday there is almost no other existence besides football. I breathe football, drink football, and eat football. When I am in the bathroom, I poop football. When I drink my beer, I taste football. When I smoke, I get high on football. When I pray, I pray football. When I have sex, well... i guess that is the only thing OTHER than football that day!

Gameday manual for my house:

1) Establish alcohol flow as soon as possible. Difficult to watch Bres's defense sober.

2) Check NFL coverage map. Realize that cicrumstances have screwed me so that my lovely 50" plasma TV will be displaying the damned Jets game. Again.

3) Secure good table at local wings joint approximately 15 minutes before kickoff. Try to get access to TV that's not near the damned Redskins fans. Or worse, the Squealer fans, if any show.

4) Attempt to get the rugrats to quit their bitchin' during the game.

5) Annoy fans of other teams with my incessant gloating.

6) Bury face in beer as Tory James yields yet another touchdown (Looking forward to eliminating this step).

7) Gnaw off fingernails as it becomes clear that game will come down to somebody's kicker.

8a) Drown out all conversation with primal scream of triumph, or...

8b) Wave at bartender for another round as opposition makes improbable 60-yd field goal.

9) Tip server well for putting up with this crap nearly every week, wobble toward car, hand keys to wife.

10) Sleep while keeping an eye on the afternoon game.

I used to get all crazy.......go down and tailgate (Still do if I happen to be in the 'nati) Not paint my face or body, but definitely have on a jersey and as much orange and black clothing as possible. I have/had about 4 toters of Bengals tailgate gear, not including my life size tiger. (My dad uses most of it when he tailgates now, since I'm in Tampa for most games.) I currently have the tiger down here with me. I set it out on the front lawn along with my tailgate flagpole under the car tire. Usually kick back, make a little food and wait for the game to come on while I switch from CBS and Fox and NFLN. Did I mention I thank God everyday for the NFL PASS!

Oh and I dress up Rudi! He loves it!

Derek, you are the freakin man !!! I should be able to do that over here, but I guess I will have to wait and see for a definitive... Anyway around, nice to know there is a better option. Thanks again brother !!!

WHODEY !!!

Glad to hear it might help. I'm of the opinion that everyone should be able to watch the Bengals... not just those living in America that can afford DirecTV.

Haven't been over for a few years due to Mrs Scottish being ill and then her untimely demise. I have seen quite a few games tho, through the decade of despondancy! I had quite a good record for Bengals matches I've been too - think it's about 8 wins, 1 loss, 1 o/t loss - so not too bad all things considered.

Anyway - if the game is NOT on TV which is usually the case, I sit infont of the computer and get the NFL Gameday thing when the helmets move up and down the pitch and there's text on what happens with the plays, stats etc etc. Pretty desperate stuff and way behind "real time" action. Of course there's always the option of joining the Bengalszone Bretheren for game action/updates. I can't concentrate on watching other teams on telly when my Bengals are in action so I just plonk my arse infront of the PC and away I go.

Now, if the game IS on TV then it's anxiousness from the time I get out of bed in the morning. I wear one of the plethora of Bengals jerseys and t-shirts that I have (sorry Spain!). The adrenelin and nerves build up throughout the day. I won't let myself have a beer til the game kicks off then its beers, whisky, steak and mashed potato - yelling, questioning the officials parentage, berating the opposition - you know, all the manical stuff you'd expect from a football (soccer) type breeding - PURE PASSION! Great fun! Kids think I'm nuts but who cares!!!!!

I usually wake up around 730 or 8, still drunk from the night before, yelling it's gameday throughout my entire apartment, waking up my roomates. Sometimes they get mad but that's only until they realize it's F-ing gameday.

My brother and I just bought a minibus that is slowly getting converted to a bengal mobile. So this year we will be watching ESPN on the projector, while we're on our way down to the Nati, that I installed 2 weeks ago.

Once we're down in the Nati, we get extremely intoxicated harrasing all the other fans. Just kidding. I know how some of you feel about that. Just the latter though. We still get extremely intoxicated.

Lastly, we go and watch the game and have another best time of our lives.

Harassing other Bengals fans?

Or the opposing teams fans?

I wouldn't call it harrasing but yes I do give some s**t to other teams fans.
