Henry Passes Drug Test?

HoF, I am mostly with you on the rage against the NFL hypocrisy machine. But it is that machine which makes the line he walks so very fine.

It's certainly no negative if he did indeed pass the test. It is a negative that we have to hold our collective breaths (figuratively) each time he takes such a test.

I'll sign up to be his Designated Pisser.

Mem, I understand the point you're making. I really do. I fully appreciate the position the Bengals find themselves in, and I won't deny that much of their current problems are of their own making. And regardless of whether past habits can be defended it's just as true that those debates will now have to go forward without any input from this Bengals team. Because this team is no longer in any position to draft any prospect that isn't an eagle scout, and past offenders find themselves walking not only the finest of lines, but the hardest of lines. Simply put, any player that strays from those hard fine lines risks becoming a message sent to his fellow players, an example to wayward strangers, or simply a sacrifice made to the god of hand wringing.

It is what it is, and we're all raw from the experience.

I understand that Henry walks a fine line but everyone that keeps bashing him on this topic wouldn't be doing so if some asshat wouldn't have reached out with a 10 foot poll to try and screw up his career by saying he failed a drug test.

Henry did deserve the bashing he got for past offenses but this is not something he should be rideculed over.

If anything we should be happy that Henry didn't make an attempt to screw his life, as a football player, up; not repeatedly ripping the guy a new because of what the media posts.

As far as Nicholson's girlfriend claiming she hit herself, that is some funny stuff.

If this guy was your co-worker he probably would have been fired by now and if he was your next-door-neighbor you would want him locked up. But since he is an athlete (on our team), we continue to make excuses for him and "hold out hope"... :puke:

Meanwhile if the DA or the lab or whoever screwed up then I am sure this will become an even bigger story. But this kind of stuff must have some basis in fact somewhere for the guy to stick his neck out and go public with it.

from Bengals.com

http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=6061

The Bengals reacted to Kenton County Attorney Garry Edmondson’s contention that Henry failed the court’s drug test that is part of his probation agreements stemming from his four arrests by saying they are waiting for more information.

And, while Edmonson backtracked later Monday, Marvin Frazier, one of Henry's agents, said the original story was wrong.

“With respect to the Northern Kentucky proceedings, reports to date may not be based on complete information,” the Bengals said. “More information is expected to be made available shortly, once all the procedural tests are complete, and the Club will await any action until that information has been released.”

Edmonson told Cincinnati TV station Channel 5 that he may have been mistaken and had been given bad information and is tracking down more information.

I certainly understand why no one wants to give him the benefit of the doubt... but I just don't see anything to worry about here.

I'm not even saying the guy is clean, or that he's learned a single damn lesson... but the fact that there is bad information floating around and that there are conflicting tests and whatnot - I just think nothing is going to come out of this.

Here is a possible "fact" to consider:the f*****g prosecutor from Redneck County,Kentucky is an idiot looking to grab headlines and further his political aspirations at the expense of Chris Henry (and the Bengals). For this ass to go public with this without a definite positive report in hand is almost unbelievable. What a fool! That is why he "stuck his neck out". The guy should lose HIS job before Chris Henry loses his.

Translation: Edmonson is guilty of doing his job so badly that against all odds he managed to make Chris Henry a sympathetic figure.

And most amazingly he did that trick without abusing seat belt, turn signal, or proof of insurance laws.

You are going to believe a lawyer spouting off premature findings without proof?

Wait for the facts, man.

Oh, and at your job, If that guy was churning out patents or finalizing huge sales then he would still be there even after making a drunken fool of himself at the christmas party and got a DUI on the way home. Its all about results. Thats it.

Sounds like you've made up your mind though about Henry, regardless.

My thinking is he's like all the media whores in that he wants his name attached to news that could go national....he took a chance by jumping the gun on the first test which is no more than a home pregancy type test. the lab test makes him look like the idiot he is..

Kenton Co., KY is a whole lot less redneck than Charlottesville, VA. Prosecutors screw up in quite a few places.

Not true. In certain industries it's one strike and you are out.

And yes I have pretty much made up my mind about Henry. And yes I did believe the lawyer and so did a whole bunch of others. At this point Henry has given me very little reason to believe him over a lawyer.

Agent says second test was negative, and that the first test was like a "home pregnancy test." So, in conclusion, Chris Henry will not play for the Bengals this year because he is PREGNANT!!!!!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: That's funny. I don't care who you are...

You obviously know nothing about Charlottesville. In any event, you cannot dismiss what this idiot prosecutor did by simply referring to it as a "mistake". In going public without a firm positive test result he revealed himself as an incompetent publicity-mongering fool. This prosecutor deserves to get sacked even if it turns out that Henry failed a drug test.

Isn't the guy up for election in .... 2008?

I don't know if I'd take odds if he'll lose his day job before our own Chris Henry.

About that Redneck County comment, don't you have to go further south to hit Redneck country? Like south of Louisville? Its not like it used to be. Used to be my home town, Franklin, Ohio was tightly within Redneck country. Now I think the borders have gone south more.

I live in DC. I've been to Charlottesville. You're a bunch of mouth-breathing hicks and idiot college kids. I do not dismiss the fact that the prosecutor is an idiot; I maintain that this has nothing to do with his residence.

Yeah... it's funny, but I actually know what the guy was talking about. I work at a Juvenile Correctional Facility (Probably could have done Henry some good about 5-10 years ago), but when a kid has earned a home pass he has to take a piss test when he gets back. They are sensitive enough to show 'positive' for a lot of different things, but not so accurate that you can make any real judgment about it. When a kid tests positive, we then take them down to the hospital and get a "real" test done. Sometimes they're still positive, sometimes they're not.

As for why Henry is taking one of these "home-style" piss tests, you've got me... but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there is absolutely nothing to this story. And for someone who's often been referred to as a "Henry-hater" I'm actually pretty confident that this is nothing (Yes... I guess that means I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. There's a first time for everything).

This whole "it's like a pregnancy test" thing is just a simplification to allow people to understand that there can be false positives.

All it means is that the screening urine test for drugs has a high sensitivity, i.e. it is good at picking up the positive urine. This however also means there can be more false positives so that it is less likely to miss any true positives.

Once they get a positive screening urine test, they should reflexively test the urine or blood with a test that has high specificity, i.e. it is good at picking up true negatives, and has low rates of false positive. This is what was apparently negative for Henry, which is more accurate.

So there is presumably NO evidence of him taking anything. Trying to take something posittive from this, hopefully it opened his eyes that the reaction is swift, and he will walk a straight line from now on.

But the prosecutor really is an idiot for making this public. Granted he may have been given misinformation, but it still falls on him to check his facts. I don't know about him losing his job over this, but he should be thoroughly embarassed in the media. The Bengals don't need any more negative press.

At this point Henry has given me very little reason to believe him over a lawyer.

Here's the rub. I don't have a very high opinion of lawyers, and don't hold them in very high esteem. In fact, the best description I've ever heard of lawyers is "professional smoke shoveler".

Nor do I give most of their opinions more weight than I would those offered by anyone else. But in this case it's not a matter of how much I trust a lawyer or how much I value their opinions. It's a matter of whether or not it's reasonable for the public to expect an officer of the court to act responsibly when tasked with reporting facts. And in this case the prosecutor has already admitted that he gave two television interviews before being officially informed of the test results. In short, he heard a rumor and then repeated it immediately for anyone whose attention he could attract.

As for Henry, he has given you SOME reason to trust him, though not by his own choice. Players who have previously failed an NFL drug test are subject to twice weekly drug tests, as well as random drug testing that can occur at any time. And in Henry's example he's also subject to court ordered drug testing that is done seperately from that of the NFL. So I'm guessing he's already passed dozens of drug tests.
