Now there is a conflict in the info given previously...

Prosecutor: conflicting information now on Henry drug test

Last Update: May 21, 2007 1:00 PM

The Kenton County Attorney now says his office has conflicting information on drug test results involving Bengals receiver Chris Henry.

Earlier today, Garry Edmondson said Henry had failed a court-ordered drug test, adding that Henry tested positive for opiates.

Edmondson indicated it would force Henry to serve up to 88 days in the Kenton County jail.

Edmondson says one test came back negative. He says results of another test are pending. He would not say who told him the test was positive.

Local 12 continues to follow this story.

Looks like the thread title needs edited . . .

Henry agent denies report

BY MARK CURNUTTE | MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM

Marvin Frazier, the New Jersey-based agent for Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, today denied a Kenton Country prosecutor's claim that Henry failed a drug test.

"The final result is negative," Frazier told the Enquirer. "It's all (nonsense)."

Frazier said he talked this afternoon with Bengals player relations director Eric Ball, and Ball told Frazier that the final test was negative.

Ken Easterling, a Kenton County prosecutor, today said initial results indicated that Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry failed a drug test.

However, Easterling stressed that Kenton County is awaiting final analysis from the Kentucky state lab.

"We cannot confirm or deny (Henry's test sample) contains a controlled substance," he said.

Easterling talked to the Enquirer following comments made by Kenton County prosecutor Gary Edmondson, who told television reporters this morning that Henry failed the drug test and that he could be facing jail time.

Whether it is a failed test or not, it simply underscores how unreliable he is at this point. And why I was arguing for a WR in the first or second round of the draft.

Regardless, still hoping you optimists on the board are right about Brazell, Tab's health, Chatman et al. We're gonna need them....

That's nonsense - a DA from a backwards KY Courthouse issues a statement supported by nothing and, in fact, direcly contradictory to the facts at his disposal, and it's a reflection on Henry's reliability?

If anything, this fiasco (as it currently appears) puts me more on Henry's side than I was yesterday.

Also, the Bengals seem to be standing up for him - you've got to guess that they are also administering drug tests along with the NFL and my guess is that they have a higher budget/more reliable review than does Easterling.

Depending on the results Henry could sue the s**t out of Kenton County as if there was any doubt in the outcome of the test they should've waited to before they go calling the press to drag Henry's name through the mud. You would think somebody around their would bother to make sure that the results are correct before they go telling the world that Henry failed a drug test.

If Chris isn't aware of how certain people are out to get him I hope he is now.

For all those people hoping that it might be a perscription and OK, you are wrong. For anyone that has ever taken a drug test, you will all know this. they ask you before the test if you can prove any perscriptions you are currently taking. if you yest positive for anything else, it is a failed test. so there is no chance that the opiate henry had in his system was a legal perscription.

Whether it is a failed test or not, it simply underscores how unreliable he is at this point.

Or maybe it underscores how determined some people are to use an unpopular but high profile player like Chris Henry as a career stepping stone? Someone like Kenton County prosecutor Gary Edmondson?

Frankly, if Henry actually passed his drug test then he deserves our respect for attempting to walk the straight and narrow, and as a result I think I'd like to see if Edmondson could clean his desk out as quickly as he leaked the rumor that resulted in him appearing before cameras and reporters.

<_<

No, you miss the point. Whether it is this time, or the next time, or the time after that, he is walking A VERY FINE LINE, because whatever the next slip-up is, it buys him at least a year long ban, and maybe more. He is unreliable, because it will take oh-so-very-little for him to be effectively gone forever. Which is why I said, "whether it is a failed test or not", because it does not change that calculus. He is as unreliable as it gets. And that is a problem for this team. I say all that fully aware of how preternaturally talented he is. But it is masked behind the realities of his legal and league imposed problems. You can ignore all that all you want, but it does not make it any less a reality.

And all of that is from a fan who roots like hell for Henry. But that is one unreliable sumbitch at this point, no matter now you slice it.

Well if he is cleared, then I will pull back my attack on Henry. If its a passed test it does nothing to underscore his reliability - he did nothing wrong. He has been wronged.

Yes we will need our backup wide receivers. What team doesn't? Still feel good that these reports are false. Rome just said both tests were negative.

Heres to Henry scoring TD's for us i the future.

bwilly, it has everything to do with reliabilty...they simply cannot rely on him. Because it is too easy for him to be gone. He is, by definition at this point, unreliable. Because of the circumstances in which he finds himself (and there, because of his own actions).

Yep, ecspecially if TJ or Chad gets hurt for any period of time - this team will be in trouble. That's some really weak/unproven #3 options, that would then have to be a #2.

Yes, His reliabilty is an issue. But, what happened today doesn't affect that. (hopefully its clear) Us optimists hope he has learned his lesson. Maybe he hasn't, today only proves he is currently on the stright and narrow. If he remains that way - we will have a great weapon. If not - we have waiters in the wing.

I was prepared to drop him this morning, but Im very happy the rumor was false.

What happened today reminds everyone how fine the line is that he walks. So, so, so fine. So fine it can almost not be seen.

As unreliable as it gets.

It's not about the Bengals dropping him or not dropping him (or your particular wants along those lines, one way or another), it's about the NFL making him completely unavailable. Hell, I want him to play for the Bengals so bad it almost hurts. He is a touchdown catching play-making machine. His skill-set is damn near irreplaceable. But he is also an inch from being denied the team, permanently. It's a bad place for the Bengals to be, it really is.

More than anything I think it underscores how much on edge we Bengal fans have become, some for vastly different reasons.

Some of us can't stand the Bengals willingness to embrace pure talent while ignoring character concerns, while others like myself are enraged when the Bengals are singled out for doing something that all teams do. Still others don't seem to care one way or another, and are simply tired of the Bengals being a punchline yet again.

All I know right now is that Chris Henry apparently just passed a drug test and despite all odds it somehow became a negative.

HoF, I am mostly with you on the rage against the NFL hypocrisy machine. But it is that machine which makes the line he walks so very fine.

It's certainly no negative if he did indeed pass the test. It is a negative that we have to hold our collective breaths (figuratively) each time he takes such a test.
