Sundance_Kid
I like many others, felt that defense was the appropriate route for the Round 2 pick... and although there was a massive run on D players, I believe we could have found someone on the defensive side of the ball to draft... I originally thought the Kenny Irons pick was alright... but not much more than 'alright'with that said...After watching the interview in the locker room of Kenny Irons, I'm extremely excited to have this kid on our team. It is so refreshing to see someone who is excited and adamant about playing for a team. A true team player, but more than that, an excited, willing (ref. to Special Teams Play), humbled individual.I hope C-Per comes back and does his thing, because I was one of the people who believed he was quite a special H-back, but with this new addition of Kenny Irons, I'm very pleased, and enjoy the 2007 NFL Draft Round 2 Pick of the Cincinnati Bengals much more than I did before this interview. I suggest people who 'regretted' the pick, check it out...His excitement and refreshing nature reminds me of Tab Perry.... more guys like this on the Bengals, and more guys like this in the NFL would be much appreciatedTab, drag Ike another 20 yards... please..................... it'll make me feel better

That said, having a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and a well-paid vet at RB is too much. I hope this guy can catch, and if he can, that we can dump Perry. turnip
The more I think about it, the more I think this is our best pick. Hall was a terrific pick, but something of a no-brainer. CB was widely viewed as our biggest need, and Hall was clearly the best CB on the board (and in my opinion, the best in the draft). The need for a RB was not publicized before the draft, but without Chris Perry there is quite a void. I am glad we aren't counting on Perry anymore. I personally think Irons would be an improvement over even a healthy Perry. But more importantly, Perry is not healthy and really has never been healthy, and now we hopefully have someone who can carry the load should Rudi go down. Although we had bigger problems last year, the fact remains that Rudi did not look nearly as good, and it was not the fault of JJ or the line. I think the Thunder/Lightning 1-2 punch is going to be huge for us.
ShulaSteakhouse
So turnip you think the 0-line had nothing to do with Rudi's problems finding room last year? I beg to differ. Levi being out hurt, Braham being out hurt, and Willie's weekly aches and pains and failing knees aren't helping there either. If I have one beef with this team's depth right now, it's the lack of attention the o-line gets. They have to protect Palmer and Rudi if this team wants to go anywhere. They better hope like hell Guy-chick holds up all season, and that either Whitworth or Andrews does a good job at LG, and that Levi can go a full season with no major injuries, in addition to Williams.I would've gone for Kahlil in the 2nd and picked up a 3rd down back later in the draft. bengalsfansince68
I too, would have taken Kahlil. The fact that they didn't tells me that the coaches believe that Ghiaciuc/Wilkerson/Stepanovich can get it done.I think Wilkerson is our most overlooked player. He was an absolute beast at LSU! If the O-line stays healthy this year and he runs for a 4.6 YPC behind the road graders on the left side, I'm wondering what his detractors will have to say? I'm sure JoeBong will point out that he didn't have any 80-yard runs, so there's that.I don't see why Guy won't hold up, and I think Whitworth showed enough last year. I think he's the real deal. If anything, he's an upgrade on run-blocking and a slight downgrade in pass blocking over Steinbach, in my opinion.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but Dan Santucci played some C for Notre Dame. Spot duty in something like 4 or 5 games. In fact, ProFootballWeekly claimed that moving to the NFL he projected better at that position than as a Guard.

I could have phrased it better though, I was trying to say that: Blocking issues aside, Rudi didn't look as good last year. He got better blocking last year than in 2004, yet he seemed to have lost a step. The run defense doesn't have to worry about his outside runs, and they don't have to worry about long-distance runs, and I think that does defenses a lot of favors. I would like to see this become a Parker/Bettis type of combo.
jjakq27
I think that Rudi may have lost somehting due to the weight loss/new diet thing he did last year. He didn't seem to play with the same strength or ferocity that he had in the past.

James_Brooks21
I think that Rudi may have lost somehting due to the weight loss/new diet thing he did last year. He didn't seem to play with the same strength or ferocity that he had in the past.I agree. I hope he puts the weight back on this offseason. The weight loss was to get some of those extra pounds he was carrying around off his knees. Remember he had to get his knee scoped out at the end of the 2005-2006 season. I don't think he loss anything with the weight loss, I think the blocking wasn't there plus we didn't have a change of pace back to put in there they only had to adjust to one style of running. Kenny Irons will help Rudi alot if he is able to stay healthy, I'm a little worried about his body holding up to those NFL hits hopefully the strength coach will put him on some type of program. I think Leon Hall took too much flack for the bad games at the end of the season. I thought he did a good job other then getting beat on the play fake in that game. In that USC game he was getting toasted, I don't know what was going on that game but everybody has a bad game. But taking those two bad games in consideration who the hell did Revis actually cover in the Big East? I don't remember any of those Big East receivers names getting called, so I don't know how somebody could possibly put him ahead of Hall with the lack of competition he had. That one run back play made him millions of dollars, but I can truly say that I'm glad that we got Hall should be an upgrade over James. BengalPappaw
I really like Kenny Irons!!! I wasn't too sure about drafting a running back (I wanted all defense) until after I went back and watched Kenny Irons play --- he is exciting!!!IMO he will add a lot to our offense this year. I am even more excited about this season with Kenny Irons in the backfield as a change of pace.WHO DEY!!!

HoosierCat
Irons will make Rudi a better back. Rudi's YPC has consistently been higher in seasons when he's had a quality partner in the backfield ('03 with Dillon and '05 with Perry) versus 2004 and 2006, when he had to do it all. I like what Irons can do but he is not Perry. Irons is still a rookie. I still want to see CPerry in action this year. When healthy he is exciting and is the best 3rd down option we have. Remember that TJ took time to get healthy enough to show his stuff. Look back and you will see he did nothing for 3 years. When CPerry can get healthy he will be awesome.
