HoosierCat
Tory Smith AND Chris Leak still in and they take this douche! WTF!?Well, we've already fully filled the douche spot with your bed-buddy Thurman and his gangsta wannebe SUV copilot Henry, so I am sure they'll use this QB in a different role than that. Kazkal
Plenty of solid backup QB's still left, Johnson isn't a bad backup.Really? Plenty of solid backup QB's still left, Johnson isn't a bad backup.Really? This team shows no discipline on Draft Day. They have no clue. They deserve to continue to be mediocre. This is sad.the sky is falling chicken little.this was stupid. Jared zambranski cris leak troy smith jordon palmer all good quarterbacks why would we go this route?? we need defensive players not thisJordan and Carson both stated they dont want him to be a bengal. Bobcat Bengal
Last, you can gripe that he's almost certainly a couple of years away but the last time I checked Reggie McNeal was trying to explain why the cigarettes he liked to smoke had been soaked in cough syrup.whoa. Smokin' that lean?Where'd you hear this from?
SkinneymulleT
What do casey bramlet, eric meyer, reggie mcneal and jeff rowe have in common? I mean do we really need another late round qb? Sign lorenzen. Why not take a chance on Patrick or fill a need on D? Bad pick.
Bobcat Bengal
Not too pleased. If we want QB, I think Troy Smith is a steal right now. He'd need time to adjust, but so will thus guy. Moreover, I'm not a big believer in backup QB's. Truth is, if Carson goes down for any period of time, the season is over, and no backup will fix that. The situation with Jeff Garcia and the Eagles is extremely rare, or Tom Brady and the Pats, is pretty rare. Usually, hurt starting QB is end of the season. I would have preferred more D, but is is the 5th round, so I do agree we probably have not sufferred too much opportunity cost.Yeah, you're damn right the season would be over cuz WE WOULDNT HAVE A BACKUP QB.I'm enjoying the draft, personally.I knew the Bengals would take a QB at some point in the draft, I was just suprised that they pulled the trigger so early, rather than in the 7th round.Oh well.Rowe's straight outta Reno 911.Welcome. BTG
yea, I don't like this pick at all. They still haven't addressed the defensive line or linebacker position, and what about tight end? The last I checked we only had one tight end on our roster.

(other than the fact that they were or are at some point in their career solid (or better, particularly Brady) starters at the QB position? This guy somewhat lessens the risk of us being screwed, but history shows that most backup's, be it drafted or some washed up guy, can't stand up. He's a better backup then what we could get in FA, but I'm not sure if he dramatically improves our chances if CP is hurt. Moreover, I do like Troy Smith more, and I don't think that's just me being a homer. Perhaps the "character issue" scared us off, though I think we should get a pass for a Heisman. I'm not saying the pick is a disaster or anything, or will affect how I view the draft overall. I'm just quibbling. There's not going to be much talent to pick up around here, so this isn't make or break for the defense. Whether we like it or not, we've made our choices for defense (addressing CB, safety, and LB if you count Brooks; I also think we are now counting on Odell to return). Smokin' that lean?Where'd you hear this from? I don't recall the source, but right after McNeal's arrest the nugget about him having dipped smokes was included. I'll admit it's hardly headline making stuff, and it wasn't widely reported due to the other charges being more serious, but I thought it said plenty about his character....and his future as a backup QB worth developing. Quite frankly, I'd prefer a stratight doper over a dipper. One last nugget about Rowe. He was the QB that showed up on more sleeper lists than any other I can think of. skyline
Did you guys notice how quickly the Bengals got their pick in? Couldn't have taken them more than 30 seconds. I think they're pretty high on this kid.

I think you have to be in uniform and wearing all the approved pads n stuff to be able to (legally) make a play on the field. Maybe you and Thurman have worked out a way to do this around a "that seventies show" type basement conference. With the appropriate mind enhancing substances fully employed, as one might suspect. All I am saying is that if Carson goes down, we're screwed. That's true no matter who our #2 QB is, of those we could have realistically gotten, salary cap issues included. Not sure how this affects the need to develop a QB. (Though I would have preferred Smith). I'm just not sure knowing the team's needs, including a still in his prime CP, we should have decided now is the time to try to develop a QB vs. go look for some defensive talent among the dregs of the 5th round. It's not a huge loss, because there is not much talent on the 5th round. Oh, and now Smith goes to Ravens. This means I have to hate him now. See what the Bengals failure makes me do

That's exactly why this was done: to prevent even more pseudo-dead money being tied up and on the offensive side of the ball to boot. That's exactly why this was done: to prevent even more pseudo-dead money being tied up and on the offensive side of the ball to boot.Unfortunately, this is very poor logic. If we are going to put "insurance" money anywhere, the back-up QB is the place, ook at what Philly did last year versus NYJ the year before. Save money on the DT's and DE's. Cut BRob and JT but, God in heaven, give us a decent back-up QB. Johnson will stay and Mr. Rowe may not make the club. This was an abyssmal pick. oh well. jjakq27
I was shocked when QB came up on the board as their pick but at that low of a round it's all a crapshoot anyway. However I really thought they might take TE Ben Patrick here.
BengalszoneBilly
Interesting choice...but I expected them to burn a late pick on a QB...thought it would be a 6 or 7 tho.I would have bet money on grabbing one in the supplemental, but hey...they probably know a lot more about this guy than I do. At least that's what I hope. Anyway this was my least favorite pick in this draft, and if that's all I got to whine about, then it's a damn good draft!
