chrishcovga Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Per ESPN.com , Al Wilson has been released. Could be worth the money, but has concerns about that neck injury of his. No doubting his play on the field. Especially since he played behind subpar defensive tackles in Denver. Quote
WhoDeyForever Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 You know with the inexperience of our linebackers...Not really any depth either...This is just a possibility... Quote
Stripes Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 The depth will be further wounded if we can't afford the little guys. Pass. Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Wilson would be a valuable addition if healthy -- but if he is healthy, he's also almost certain to be far out of the Bengals' price range. Quote

WhoDeyForever Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Any idea how much money we got? Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Any idea how much money we got?In terms of cap space? Somewhere in the $7 million neighborhood, by all accounts. But the Bengals have blocked out $5-6 million of that for the rookie pool and an in-season injury reserve. So they have just a couple million that they're willing to play with. Quote

bengalsfansince68 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Kirk, you're killin' me,I have admired Al Wilson as a player for a long time. That being said, Al is 30 and his body has taken 8 years of NFL pounding. In addition to that, he would have been traded previously but for having failed a physical which botched the deal. He has a neck injury and no one, not even Al himself, knows if he will be able to play. Despite that, everyone wants to jump to sign any player who has had any success irrespective of his age, health and cost. With all due respect, we need young players who will be good in the future, not old players who have been good in the past. CantStop85 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Considering he's going to miss the entire 2007 season and most likely retire afterwards, I say we pass. Quote

They are very young and there isnt really one linebacker who has played great. Landon is ok but if you bring in Al Wilson he could be a great mentor for Brooks and if we draft a linebacker in the 1st like maybe Patrick Willis or Jon Beason, Wilson could help them out a lot IMO. bengalsfansince68 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 I see no need to use cap space on mentors if the coaches do their jobs.In '04, many here argued that Kitna should start ahead of Carson. My point was it was time to get this team's future started and Carson was and is the future. The young guys are our future, it's time to get them started. Quote

Sam Adams is like 60 and 900 lbs and we signed his ass. I say get him to Cincy on the next flight!!!! Quote
bengalsfansince68 Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Those who don't care are the same guys who prattled on endlessly advocating the signing of Warren Sapp. Teams play like they practice and part of the problem last year was that Sam could not haul his 900 lbs to practice consistently.Marvin's plan is to get younger and stay younger. JoePong Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 We have young, talented, athletic players and it's time to let them play.Peko, Fanene, Rucker, Geathers, Brooks, Jeanty, Henderson, Thurman, Pollack, Nicholson, Joseph, Kilmer etc... to go along with still relatively young players like Justin Smith and Madieu WilliamsThe sooner these guys play, the better our defense will be.
