jditty47
i doubt it. at the least he'll define it as an act done during a game which would be atleast one game suspension. im guessing 4 games at the minimum.
HairOnFire
im guessing 4 games at the minimum. And how will you feel about the fairness of the new get tough policy if and when Porter gets much less than that?
palmmyjohnson
But, yeah, you’re right. The police report says one NFL player basically attacked another NFL player and had help. Goodell has to take a stand on it. Heck, that storyline is worthy of, at the very least, a bad B movie, not to mention daily news updates for a week. But it’s all very strange why it slid by. It seemed like it was only big news in Cincinnati and Miami. And because it wasn't news when it happened Goodell won't make it big news later by handing out a long suspension. In fact, I'd say the odds are pretty good that no suspension at all is handed out. Wait for it. The NFL's new get tough policy is going to be almost entirely media driven and as a result vastly unfair.I'd agree with this, but for one fact: there's a video. If/when the video is released I expect to see it played quite a bit. Hell, Mallory's limped wristed throw got ridiculous airplay on TV and YouTube. You may be right if the video isn't released until after Goodell rules.
BengalByTheBay
I am honestly kind of confused by the entire thing -- did I just dream that Joey Porter and his posse jumped Levi Jones inside a casino in Vegas???? It's bizarre. The fact that this hasn't been sports talk show fodder for 3 weeks is beyond me when they spend months talking about every time Barry Bonds takes a dump. Porter makes Henry look like a recreational hoodlum if this stuff is all true and IT'S ON VIDEOTAPE SOMEWHERE. Man, when anybody gets a look at the video it's on. On the other hand, if Levi is being "taken care of" by the Malouf brothers so that this doesn't grow any bigger, maybe it will continue being under the radar for most everybody. I guess I should be impressed by the control that has been kept on this story -- if I was Levi I'd be on "Rome is Burning" right now talking about it. Stripes
Wait for it. The NFL's new get tough policy is going to be almost entirely media driven and as a result vastly unfair.Yup.
Spor_tees
If Levi goes forward with pressing charges against Porter, The NFL will really be forced into some kind of action. So really it is up to Levi if he wants something to be done.
HoosierCat
Wait for it. The NFL's new get tough policy is going to be almost entirely media drivenWell, of course. The entire NFL is wholly media-driven; it's an entertainment business, after all. Why would you expect anything different?and as a result vastly unfair.Unfair? I dunno. It is what it is, and every player knows that -- or ought to -- when they sign an NFL contract. Is it fair we expect these guys to be juiced-up demons on Sunday and saints the rest of the week? Of course not. But that's the deal these days, and that deal is clear to see going in. Are big stars and big markets going to get treated differently than small fry and small markets? Yup. But that happens everywhere, not just in the NFL. Vastly unfair? Hey, life ain't fair, man. Who told ya otherwise?

The NFL is very afraid that they are getting the same reputation that the NBA had several years ago. I don't blame them for trying to protect a good thing. HoosierCat
Update from the Miami Herald:The hearing for Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, which stemmed from his misdemeanor battery charge in Las Vegas on March 18, was continued for an additional 16 days Monday. The delay, which was granted after a request from Porter's attorney, is likely a move toward further discussions for more negotiations. The hearing, initially scheduled for Monday, will take place May 30.Porter is accused of allegedly punching Bengals tackle Levi Jones at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, according to a police report.
