DuffMan Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2792518Wow, I'm kinda glad we are out of the FA safety sweepstakes (outside of KK of course). Bad news for the bengals though, this cant do anything but drive up KK's price...Michael Lewis? can he cover anything faster than Jeremi Johnson? Redonk Quote

Remember, most of it is the players' money anyhow, just their "cut" of total league revenues. The owners are just deciding how to hand it out. I supposed they could have chosen just to give the top players even bigger deals -- maybe $200m for Nate Clements instead of $80m? -- but that would have the side effect of neutering the franchise tag, removing one of their few checks on player movement. So instead the bigger pile of money gets spread around more, so even middle and low-tier guys are cashing in. Quote

Even if he isn't the hitter he was before his injury, his pick numbers held up last season, as did his passes defensed. Cover safeties of any quality are always in demand. If he has even a decent year, I wouldn't be surprised if they franchised him. The safety tag is just $4.5m this year, and while the new deals will drive it up it should still be below $5m. Quote

What the hell happens next year when the % increase of the cap isn't the same as this year, and teams have less cap room? The FAs will want comparable deals but the money won't be there. FA next year will be a *&)()(*ing mess. Quote

FA next year will be a *&)()(*ing mess.Shouldn't be a mess for the Bengals *IF* everything is as they say with little to no dead money going into future years. If, once again come free agency next year, the Bengals come up with more excuses and don't make any moves in free agency, then we all will know for sure that Bengals management is nothing but a PR spinster and just don't want to spend any extra money. Lets just hope that come this time next year in free agency, all us fans won't be talking about how to improve the team that didn't make the play-offs, but instead what can be done to keep the team in the play-offs. Cap will probably hit about $120m in '08; the floor will come up, too. Quote

I think this will cause a problem next year and some players are going to be pissed. Quote
