NYBengalfan
Would be a good pick up but he could want too much money.Any thoughts?
Whur CHad At?
There are numerous threads about this....I would love to have him
DC_Bengals_Fan
Bears will match any offers. Only chance for another team to get him is if the Bears dawdle and another team signs him to an offer sheet for a "poison pill" contract that goes fully guaranteed if he plays any games in the state of Illinois or something. Also known as a Hutchinson deal. Whur CHad At?
We should go all out for him...we need an idenityThere are some people on here who still believe doing nothing in FA and relying on the same peice of s**t players we have is the right way. Or going after old cheap players...we need to be active
BengalPimp
We should go all out for him...we need an idenityI would like to have Briggs no doubt, however, if the price is right. He makes plays, and is a tackling machine, but he is not going to give this defense an "Identity". He doesnt really strike fear into opposing offenses, maybe because he plays with Urlacher ? but whatever the reason, he can tackle, and definately help a defense, but is not the type of player we should "break the bank" on.What we REALLY NEED, is a player who the oppsoing offenses dont want to even go near, a type of player who they'll call plays to the opposite side of the field that he is on, and as good as Briggs is, he is not that player.Briggs has talent, but I'm kind of leery as to what kind of impact he could have when he is "the man", and NOT having the benefit of playing alongside a player like Urlacher. Too many questions to shell out major $$$, if they are able to get a bigger impact player for the same $$$, or 2 players who can really help instead.Remember, we have MANY needs on defense, and its not something 1 player can fix. Spend wisely, and if they pay top dollar for a free-agent, it needs to be for a Game-Changer, not just a good tackler.

Or going after old cheap players...we need to be activeMaking a big splash in FA damn near never works. FA works to get the role players who complement your core. But that core pretty much has to come through the draft because you just can't use FA to solve your problems while fitting under the cap.For one thing, once open season starts on FAs, let's see who's out there worth getting. I recall last year the FA "studs" were fatasses Simon and Adams. Somewhat underwhelming.
HairOnFire
I could be wrong, but I think the only time Brigg's name was mentioned during the game was when his contract status was being discussed....with the announcers noting that he'd already turned down a 5-year contract extension that averaged 6.5 million per season. BlainThePain
I've heard he wants to be the highest paid linebacker in the NFL. That's too much for even somebody like Urlacher, let alone Briggs.
schroomytunes
If we spend any kind of top dollar on defense...then we must first address it on a shut down CB! we simply must be able to stop the big plays in the secondary. The front 7 we can get though the draft or scour the 2nd tier free agents for, but we must come away from free agency with Clements or Samuel. Kazkal
A corner would cost even more then briggs and then you be paying oneal 4million to play nickel the next 2 years...if we get new CB should be a Draftpick
walzav29
I think the Bengals have reached the point where they have to try something desperate on defense. Maybe over spend a bit.
ChadJohnson-85
We need to get Briggs in free agency and if Willis is there @ 18 draft him. That would be awesome.

Kazkal
Briggs-Willis-BrooksGeathers-Sam/poliai,Peko, Justin^_^I'd be happy with that front 7.
PhunkE1
I'll admit that seeing Briggs in Tiger stripes would be nice, but I'm realistic. The last time I checked old Mikey Brown is still signing the checks. This is NOT going to happen. You can forget a shutdown corner as well. His phylosophy, and MLewis' by default, is to build through the draft. They aren't going to break the bank on any FA's, except some current players like maybe JSmith. I personally would like to see London Fletcher in stripes. I think he'd be cheaper and the guy can still get after it.
HoosierCat
Just a note: saw today that Briggs has pulled out of the pro bowl, no reason cited. In other Bears news, they are reportedly interested in da Steinbach (h/t kffl)Bears | Expected to target SteinbachTue, 6 Feb 2007 06:16:56 -0800Updating a previous report, John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears are expected to make a run at free agent OG Eric Steinbach (Bengals) once the free-agent market opens in early March. ShulaSteakhouse
Gee, a Superbowl team already targeting their FA's 3 days after the big game. Shocking. They must not know what they're doing.
Stripes
Gee, a Superbowl team already targeting their FA's 3 days after the big game. Shocking. They must not know what they're doing. And you don't think the Bengals are targeting some free agents as well? C'mon, every team in the league is looking at the options in front of them. The Bears plan to "make a run at" Steinbach, but will they pony up as much money as other teams that can justify taking big money risks? The Bengals will "make a run at" similar players, but the question remains the same.

HairOnFire
Just a note: saw today that Briggs has pulled out of the pro bowl, no reason cited. Unspecified foot injury, said to have occured early in the Super Bowl...possibly explaining his poor performance.

Whur CHad At?
I wouldn't mind having Fletcher in stripes. We need someone who can get 150+ tackles a year. But I would prefer Briggs, or Clements(I like Samuel, but he will prob. be franchised).
