buck3y3d
This is the most simple answer there could be, Marvin's arrogance/pride. Marvin got rid of Frazier despite the improvement of the defense under Frazier, citing "philosophical differences." Then he brings in Bresh with the attachment that they have the same view of how a defense should be schemed. Hence, if Marvin was to fire Bresh at this point, he would be doing two things, admitting he is wrong and admitting his scheme isn't the one the Bengals need. Marvin is way too strong headed to do this. He is going to ride this thing out with Bresh until one of three things happen, Mike Brown TELLS him to fire Bresh, Marvin himself gets fired, or the defense turns things around.Personally I will be expecting number one to happen when Mikey boy gets tired of coming so close to the top of the mountain and failing because of the defense. This is the reason. There friends and Chucky does what Marvin wants. The defense was quickly improving under Frasier. He was fired because he butted heads with Marvin. Give me a break about it not being Chuck's fault. Hines Ward said they recognized our blitz of the day. This is a scheme problem. Scheme is the coordinator. How many chances does he deserve? In my mind, Marvin has a choice. He can fire Chuck this year or he will lose his job in 2 years. I know you think this is crazy, but we cannot go anywhere with this defensive scheme and another 2 December collapse and Marvin will have some explaining to do. Kazkal
Aye might as well give another coordinator another shot...mybe hes keeping chuck so if defense starts out bad he fires him and takes the reins.
ShulaSteakhouse
Chuck sucks, and this is his 2nd year with this defense for the person who said it was his first. He should be fired for the Indy game fiasco alone. It's pretty bad when the entire country reacts with "what was their D-coordinator thinking?" after that game. That means your D-coordinator sucks balls. That one month of fortunate Raider/Browns matchups and Brees turnovers w/no Colston seems to have, unfortunately, got him an extension here.Too bad his genius couldn't stop that Tampa Bay jaggernaut. Stripes
Too bad his genius couldn't stop that Tampa Bay jaggernaut.Yeah, they really tore us to bits with those 14 points.
Kirkendall
I didn't see one specific example of...1. What Chuck did to earn his "get fired" reaction. 2. Who could replace him and WHAT they could do better. Really, there's way too much credit being given to coaches. There's one consistency since Marvin took over... his players. buck3y3d
The perfect example of why Chuck should be fired is the Indy game. Indy completely dominated us in the first half due to our gameplan of allowing the pass undernieth, but at halftime we did nothing and the second half was a complete disaster. Furthermore, our defense has no identity, which may be a good thing because other teams can't prepare for us, but we suck. That is the simple fact. I guess another good example of why Chucky should go is the Steelers game. Hines Ward said it perfectly when he said we ran a blitz of the day. Chuck chooses a plan and never deviates from it, calling similar plays over and over again. This is a flaw in our gameplan and scheme. the simple fact is that many DB coaches could do a better job than Chuck. There's a reason the Raiders didn't want him, but for some reason he's still coaching in Cincy.
HoosierCat
The perfect example of why Chuck should be fired is the Indy game.Maybe. But you can also argue that the Indy game is the perfect example of why Bratkowski should be fired. The Colts game was a team loss.

Once they get sucked into the play-action, they completely turn around (i.e. back against Manning) dropping back 15 yards. You CANT turn your back to the quarterback if your a linebacker. Therefore, he ate up the underneath stuff. Personally, I ask where Hundley was in regards to the actual "coaching". It wasn't totally a game-plan. The linebackers had ZERO presence because they didn't watch the play -- just their zone and the receivers around it.

We got destroyed and still we stayed with the exact same gameplan drive after drive. Chuck has to go... Sure we improved our running D, but our pass defense absolutely fell apart. We play the weakest zone in the NFL, yet we continue to use that scheme week after week.
