Offsides on onside

It's a call they'll make everytime they see it. It's unfortunate, but that's how it goes. If we can convert the extra point, this discussion is never possible.

Disagree. They won't call it everytime. Players are probably over the line by as much as Brooks was on every other kickoff in NFL play, but the spirit of the rules lets it slide. You could say a critical play like this one calls for closer officiating, but to me, that's a call that a ref calls if he wants to -- that is, he knows he's sticking a fork in the Bengals when he throws the flag. Call me paranoid, but reverse the two teams in that situation ... think he flags the Broncos?

Bengals history still sticks in the minds of the humans calling these games. Not saying they're crooked, but they let biases influence those split-second decisions, for sure. And I do believe that, as a rule, they're predisposed to screw this franchise. Mike Carey has single-handedly kept this team from playing a meaningful game next weekend.

I replayed the onside kick several times.

Brooks' feet DID NOT cross the line before the ball was kicked. If that play is not reviewable it should be. That was a terrible call. We were not offsides!

Ahmad Brooks broke the plain of the line of scrimmage with his body prior to the ball being kicked. Just as any other play during the game, if a player breaks the plain before the ball is snapped and does not return, it is offsides and penalty will be called. An individuals feet does not have to cross the line for this to occur.
