CBin2k7 Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 How good is this guy? He is truly a very blessed human being. It is not even a year back from shredding his knee and he is playing like this. All the talking heads will tell you that Palmer is having a down season, and compared to certain parts of last year he is. But he is very much rounding into form and quietly on his way to the Pro Bowl. The guy has taken a beating this year, has gotten up every time and never once thrown his o-line under the bus. He is what he is and IMO that is the 3rd best QB in the NFL, and quickly moving in on Brady.I have even read that some Bengal fans wanted Palmer benched. Some pundits believe Rivers is better than Palmer. Number 9's demise is highly exaggerated, look at the stats.203-330 63 percent comp 2593 yards 18 TD's 7INT's QB rating 97.7Happy he is on our side boys, get ready this guy is gonna be NFL MVP in 07, I said it here first. Quote
membengal Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 No doubt. Several in here noted that he would only get better as the year wore on and he got farther and farther away from the surgery. That is for certain happening. But now would be a good time to stop and appreciate just how hard Palmer worked to make it back and play from the beginning this year. Look for further than Miami and Culpepper's struggles to understand just how magnificent what Palmer has accomplished in getting back is. Look no further than Salsbury chirping on espnews last night that McNabb would be lucky to get back in time for the start of next season after his ACL tear, and think again on how quickly Palmer got back from an injury that his own doc was calling career-threatening.It's really remarkable. What else happens in 2006, this season will remain a partial success just for seeing that Palmer is back and still able to be this franchise's rock at quarterback. Quote
Tasher Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Rounding into form now that his knee and his playing time is catching up to where he would have been with a normal offseason/preseason of preparation.Oh, and don't look now...Two straight weeks of 120+ passer ratings and is the 4th overall rated passer in the league. Quote
BengalChamps Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Palmer is awesome! to be playing at all much less at the high level he has been putting out lately. Would someone please put together a defense for this guy??!! Quote
derekshank Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 I'll just point this out. Carson Palmer has the 3rd best passer rating among QB's who have started all 10 games. This is true despite the fact that most people have stated something is wrong with Palmer, and that his injury of last season is still affecting him. Imagine where he might be if he had started the season 100% healthy. Watch out NFL... this guy's gonna be one of the best ever. Quote

Imagine where he might be if he had started the season 100% healthy. Watch out NFL... this guy's gonna be one of the best ever.Something is still wrong with Palmer, as Jaws broke it down, he's still thinking about his knee when guys fall at it (or he was until a few weeks ago anyway). Scary, huh? Top 5 QB and he's clearly missed some throws he would have made last year.I think maybe he's done some thinking after seeing himself lifting the front front foot when rushed, because his deep balls have been money the last few weeks. If he would have started the season 100%...I still don't think it would have made a difference of more than 1 game, since we started 3-1. Oh, and Carson doesn't play LB. Or CB. Though at this point, he can probably outrun Tory, so why not? Quote
derekshank Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Oh yeah... add to the injury issue, that Palmer has been sacked literally twice as much as the players with a better passer rating than him. If we hadn't had all the injuries to the O-Line, I'd bet he would be leading the league in passer rating. Quote
derekshank Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 If I'm understanding how the stat is calculated week to week... Palmer should jump Rivers this week in passer rating for the season with 99.8. He'll be behind only Manning and Romo. Quote

I very much doubt he'll end the season at the top though. Because he's played fewer games, one bad game (which he is sure to have) will hurt his average much more.Also... Manning only threw 1 TD tonight, so Palmer is tied for the league lead in TD's with 21. His comeback combined with the way he's playing right now is nothing short of a natural phenomenon. Quote
Stripes Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 He's been the same Carson Palmer as always all year long... he just needs time to throw the football. I just hope the media-bred Philip Rivers love affair doesn't keep Carson out of the Pro Bowl. He deserves to be there more than anyone except arguably Manning. Quote
BengalPimp Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 We are all VERY fortunate, because we are able to watch one of those TRULY SPECIAL QB's that only come around once or twice a decade. Carson is that already, but by the time he is done, we may be lucky enough to say that we were able to watch THE GREATEST QB to ever play the game. Forget the the Cannon he has for an arm, forget his incredible accuracy(and yes, its back), forget the way he combines those 2 to deliver one of the most "beautiful" long bombs that is put right where it needs to be. Forget his uncanny ability to read and recognize a defense. Those things are what made him ProBowl QB last year, and for many years to come, but there is 1 more thing...........1 thing that makes him TRULY SPECIAL, and that's his DETERMINATION. Wheteher it be studying the game, re-habbing from a " potentially devastating" knee injury, taking the team on his shoulders, leading by example, trying to improve yourself and primary receiver by taking a road trip to watch and learn from what was at the time the best QB/WR tandem in the NFL(manning/harrison) Whatever CARSON PALMER does, he is Focused, Determined, and............... HE IS THE ULTIMATE COMPETITOR........His Determination for himself, and his team to be the best they can be, should be admired, respected, and acknowledged because its a very rare trait that few posses, especially for a QB in only his 4th year...3rd year starter....Montana had determination, Elway had it, some say Brady has it, but none of those players have the Physical tools that Palmer does.......If asked to describe Carson in 1 word, i really could not, it would have to be 2, those 2 words?.............TRULY SPECIAL Quote
derekshank Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Montana had determination, Elway had it, some say Brady has it, but none of those players have the Physical tools that Palmer does...I'll agree with you about Montana and Brady... but Elway had all the physical tools that Palmer has... plus he could run. Elway is in my opinion the best QB to ever play the game. Better than Montana, better than Marino... the best. Palmer could end up right there with him though... because you're right. None of those other guys have had the physical tools that Elway and Palmer have at their disposal. It's just not fair. Quote
derekshank Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Oh yeah... and to give you an idea of what kind of career Palmer has had up to this point, I was looking at the NFL record books. Here are the top 3 Highest Passer Ratings for a career (with a minimum of 1,500 attempts)96.8 Steve Young, Tampa Bay, 1985-86; San Francisco, 1987-199994.1 Kurt Warner, St. Louis, 1998-2003; N.Y. Giants, 2004; Arizona, 200593.5 Peyton Manning, Indianapolis, 1998-2005Palmer has 1295 attempts, and his passer rating is 92.8 for his career. That is with only 40 games started. 13 as a first year starter, and now 11 with less than a year after a major knee injury. That is nothing short of amazazing (Bench Warmers reference). He will almost certainly be near the top of that list by the time it's over. Quote

It's just not fair....not quite....There is no doubt about Elways arm strength...but realize that the guy for his career completed only 56.9% of his passes.....understand that he played 16 seasons and his career high for TD passes was only 27, matter of fact he threw at least 20 TD's in ONLY 6 of his 16 seasons.....he had the arm, no doubt, but compare the numbers.......Elway never used his Cannon of an arm like Carson has....but the guy was a true competitor in every way, and his team knew that all they had to do was at least keep the game close until the 4TH Qtr, and the guy would find a way to win it...he made his teammates better....and so does Carson Quote

Also... did you know that Elway has been sacked more times than any player in history? That means not only did he not have the likes of Chad, Housh, and Henry at his disposal... many times he had poor blocking. How many years were the Broncos flat terrible, with Elway being the only bright spot? Most of his career I'd say. Terrell Davis was the first RB of quality that Elway had to work with... and he won 2 Super Bowls.Elway's stats might not match up with Palmer's when it's said and done. Palmer could possibly be viewed as the best QB of all time. (certainly in my eyes, since I'm both a Bengal and a Palmer homer) but Elway is still the best in history at this point in my mind. Palmer needs a few more years of these kinds of stats and a couple Super Bowl victories to take that title (which I fully expect from him at this point). Quote
AMC Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 One of the greatest returns from an injury ever....Nuff said.... Quote
membengal Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Let me just add here that if CP had had that injury and this comeback for one of the teams in the NY market, well, nary a minute would go by where it would not be talked about breathlessly... Quote

When he wasn't playing as well earlier, all the analysts made excuses for him because of his injury. Now that he is, they reference the comeback. They also always mention him when they talk about Culpepper's injury that he failed to return from... as well as the recent McNabb injury.Palmer has set the standard at this point for QB's returning from injury. He might be getting less pub than Manning would have if it had been him... but if you give Palmer a couple more years of the kinds of stats he's putting up, and he'll be considered the best QB in the NFL. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Romo shouldn't be allowed on that list...IMO, he needs to play more games.I hate Romo. I hear he's been hitting on my woman below! (yeah, I wish!) You have to admit though, he's a far cry better than Bledsoe, and he held the clipboard on the sidlines for much longer than Carson Palmer did before he got his chance. Quote
derekshank Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 To give you an idea of how good Palmer is this year...He completed 66% of his passes, threw for 234 yards, with 1 TD and 0 INT's... and it will actually hurt his passer rating for the year. Quote
CarsonPalmer9 Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I would just like to say how amazing of a QB Carson Palmer is. I know we keep saying that but as we speak right now palmer has the most Td passes in the NFL. Carson is our future over rudi and chad he is the player the can lead the bengals to win a SB. Also he could be a hall of famer one day but it is still to early to say. maybe we can be in the SB this year anything is possible!WHO DEY!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
