jjakq27
When I saw the headline I thought they signed Flutie again. Nothing like breaking out the drop kick from mothballs once a year. Also did anybody see Belicheck blow off Jets coach Eric Mangini after the game Sunday. He barely stopped long enough to give him a high-five while Mangini tried to grab him by the arms so they could talk for a second. Wow it sounds like somebody was in a bad mood on Sunday...... Ok, Mangini was trying to recruit players away from Bill on a plane ride behind Bill's back. Then Mangini leave the (Pats) organization on bad terms, and he is supposed to kiss the guy?C'mon let's get the facts straight here, Bill is not slouch, he was makign a statement DO NOT CROSS ME!As for Vinny Testes, Tom Brady's backup is a guy who threw a total of like 40 passes....IN COLLEGE, he has maybe seen 10 NFL snaps. They needed a Veteran QB, if Brady misses any time. Edogger
Say what? Why go after Vinnie? Aren't there any other veteran QB's that would be willing to be back up to a potential SB team? Is't there anyone else that the Pats could have looked at?
Dawg BpG
No, their isn't.Vinny has played for Bellichekc before and Bellicheck is a system, player character type of guy.Who is he gonna go get? Jeff George? Gus Ferrotte? At least he is familiar with Vinny, and Vinny is familiar with the system.

In fact I'd say he taught Mangini very well. See below. From wikipedia; "After leaving Cleveland, Belichick served under Parcells again as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator with the Patriots (1996) and New York Jets (1997-99). When Parcells stepped down as head coach, he anointed Belichick as his replacement. However, his introduction speech the following day turned out to be a surprise resignation announcement. Before taking the podium, he scrawled a resignation note on a sheet of loose leaf paper that read, in its entirety, "I resign as HC of the NYJ." He then delivered a rambling half-hour speech explaining his resignation to the assembled press corps. Shortly afterward, he accepted an offer from the Patriots to become their new head coach, who had previously tried to hire him away from the Jets. Parcells and the Jets claimed that Belichick was still under contract, and demanded compensation from the Patriots. NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue agreed, and the Patriots gave the Jets a first-round draft pick in 2000 in exchange for the right to hire Belichick."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_BelichickHere is an article from NFL.com with options from various "experts" on the handshake incident.http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9808055
Dawg BpG
But Mangini was trying to take players. I doubt, after readint hat, Bill could be upset with mangini leaving. He must have been upset about Mangini trying to steal players from him.Nice move on the Pats part. one 1st round pick 3 of 4 superbowls.Wonder WHO that draft pick was. The Jets had 4 first round picks that year. Sean Ellis, John Abraham, Chad Pennington and Anthony Becht. I am not sure which one came from NE.http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/years/2000Belichick has certainly earned his status as one of the all-time greats. But remember that he was a sub-500 coach for your beloved Browns. He was also the guy that cut Bernie Kosar.Once he ended up in NE he was on the fortunate end of an unfortunate incident when Drew Bledsoe got hurt and Tom Brady took over. I believe our beloved Bengals beat NE the week before. They would go on to win their first Super Bowl that year. In fact he was one "tuck-rule" from not ever getting there. As far as stealing players or whatever, I am sure tha s**t happens everytime a coach gets promoted to HC for another team. I think a bunch of guys from NE ended up in Cleveland after Crennel took over. So I still think Belichick is a little hypocritical if he thinks Mangini is a backstabber.Frankly I think he came off as a sore loser.
