eclipse99t
I was absolutely disgusted today with the defense, but that was a given, and I accept that we, as fans, have no control whatsoever over that. But tell me how loyal our fanbase is when they LEAVE the stadium before the 4th quarter even started? After that fumble and consequent LT touchdown, I would say that only about 65-75% of the stadium, if even that, still remained. Down by 4 with LOADS of time left, and not to mention, possession of the football, a lot of people left. It got so bad, that even the commentator noticed it. Do we have the worst fans in the NFL? And I hate those bulls**t excuses like "it was too chilly and miserable" outside...Tell that to the Green Bay fans who go to games where the temp is below 0.That was just plain embarrassing. I can understand leaving in droves if we're getting blown out, but this was just terrible fan loyalty.Anyone else notice this?

You're looking at the wrong group to blame for sucking: the defense, if you want to call them that. I stayed until 2:00 left, and knew that we were cooked. Why stay and watch the obvious when I'm driving over 100 miles to get home? Plus, I pay a boatload of money to watch this mediocrity. Fans get a little disgusted when their team has no heart, as obviously the defense has none.
Kinnebrewski
A full decade of losing, and now--- what seems to be a pretty definite sophomore slump, has a way of making fans cynical/defeatist. If anyone is to blame it's not the people themselves but the organization for creating a culture of losing in the first place.I will say though, whoever designed the open-air escalators in PB stadium must have had no idea what a laughable and telling barometer of fan's faith they were creating. My Dad and I coined it "the loser-vator" because if the Bengals seem to be falling out of a game, look to the escalators and you will see a true indication of whether fans are giving up/fed up. What's really funny is you can even see this in the background on TV broadcasts of games. It's worthy of camera closeups, just like how NBC used to focus in on Art Modell's luxury box when the Browns were losing, hoping to catch him looking pissed off or nervous. Ox
Wow, I couldn't believe as many of us stayed as long as we did. From my seats, it was a packed house. When Palmer's pass went incomplete that last drive was when the aisles filled up. So I really don't know what you guys are seeing.

agreen_112
I wouldn't say that the fans suck. I would look at it as something has to change. The fans where upset that the Bengals pulled a "Bungle". This is the reason why I don't go to the games and waste my money. Watching the fans pour down the escalator should've said something to the head office. FIRE BRESH!!! DE-PROMOTE HIM OR SOMETHING!!!
Riagogogoindanati
This is the first year I haven't been able to go to any games. I am thoroughly disgusted by the fairweather fans that have been showing up at the games this year. My dad has had season tx since I was a little girl and he has been telling me that the fans haven't been getting loud and being the 12th man. He said it's pretty rediculous down there when people start leaving after the beer sales stop. That's my tiger....who now resides in Tampa......I put it out on the front lawn every football Sunday. WhiteDawg
Cincinnati has always had the worst fans in the NFL. They are so fair weather it isn't even funny. Who cares if they are having a down season. Be realistic, the Bengals are going no where this year. Yesterday was a great example of how far this team has to come in the off season to even be in the same sentence with the good teams. I'm sure tickets will be plentiful the rest of the season. derekshank
http://www.bizjournals.com/specials/pages/35.htmlBengals fan loyalty ranks 20th in the NFL. Steelers fans are ranked 21st... so we've still got bragging rights on them.
Sox
This is a ridiculous topic.I was there. The fans were loud, especially on defense.I didn't see large groups of people leave until the last drive ended.People can only scream and yell so much when the defense once again just flat out sucks. It's not the lack of a 12th man that's the cause of the Bengals losing at PBS,it's the pathetic play(for the most part) of the Bengals defense. MacD BengalFan
I understand the notion that the fans are fair weather fans because they left early in a wild, undecided game. They were disgusted with the Bengals performance and didn't want to stick around any longer. I don't how many games I have turned off over the years in the middle because of the poor performance of the Bengals. I don't believe this makes them bad fans. Every team has fans like this. When the Bengals were sports worst franchise, they still averaged 40,000 or more fans to the games every year. That is loyalty. Those are good fans. They still came out to the games despite how bad the team was. They may have left early, but at least they came out to watch. With that kind of attendance record, most owners would have packed up and moved the team to another city. But Mike Brown didn't because of he knew the fan base he had was loyal to the Bengals. We all went through a lot of crap because of being loyal fans to the Bengals. Just because we leave a game early when the outcome is in doubt, doesn't make us bad fans.

Sorry, but it just says you've got something better to do than watch whether your team even wins the game or not. I'm thinking of the line of cars that's clear behind the bleachers in Dodger Stadium when Gibson hit the game winning homer against the A's. Do you wanna be the Dodger fan in one of those cars? If you left this game early, you may not be a bad person, you may even be smart, but you're not a good fan IMO.

Yesterday was a great example of how far this team has to come in the off season to even be in the same sentence with the good teams. I'm sure tickets will be plentiful the rest of the season.Wait a second? If fans are passionate about their teams -- as we clearly are with Reds and Bengals -- wouldn't that constitute good fans? Bad fans would be those that didn't give two s**ts what happens and cheers on the players like mothers do when their sons shake hands at pee-wee. Sorry, I think we are great f**king fans in the NFL and MLB. Do we bitch a lot? Absolutely. But we'll be there in the end -- didn't we show that in the 90s? Well, I'm kinda shocked that any of us care about what someone says about our fan base. All we care about is drinking, eating and shoving Who-Deys to our Steeler co-workers Monday morning.Although I think it's up to each person to decide how he/she wants to spend their money, I actually DO think it's the sign of a bad fan to leave in a close game.I don't. Some people have pre-existing plans and others work on Sundays and need to get a head start. I don't think you can label bad fans leaving a game no matter the situation. It's their choice. You just have to remember that not everyone is pushing 1,000 posts at a Bengals website forum.
Dan2330
A few fans that leave a game early don't speak for the entire crowd. Who knows their reason for leaving, but to use this as your basis that we have the worst fans is mindboggling. I have been to around 15 different stadiums and would rank the Bengals fans near the top. Every Bengals game I have ever been to the fans in the lower section stand during most of the game, go check out a Bears game sometime- they yell 'down in front' at you if you stand up to early to let someone by you in the row. I do agree the esculator thing is stupid, PBS would be such a hell out of a lot better and louder stadium if it wrapped all the way around

You just have to remember that not everyone is pushing 1,000 posts at a Bengals website forum. I lived for 12 years in LA and this is exactly the argument they always make about why LA fans aren't really that bad -- "maybe they have better things to do than watch the end of the game." Fine, I have no problem with that. But the very fact that someone would rather (a) get a head start on traffic getting out of the stadium, ( go watch a movie, © get liquored up at a bar for less than $9 a beer, or (d) go mow their lawn is exactly what makes for bad fans. In other words, a good fan cares about what happens with their team. A bad fan wants to go to the game for a little while and, if it gets boring or depressing, go do something else. While leaving a game where you're down by 30 in the 4th quarter is one thing -- leaving a game where you're down 8 is a completely different story. Again, do you want to be the "fan" that missed a huge drive capped by a 2-point conversion and a stirring overtime victory because you wanted to do (a) - (d) above? It's up to you -- I'm just saying that if you answered "yes" you're not a good fan in my book. I'm entitled to my opinion and nothing I've read in this thread is at all convicing that I'm wrong. Kirkendall
I'm entitled to my opinion and nothing I've read in this thread is at all convicing that I'm wrong.Of course you're not wrong. You're adding to a debate that's about one's personal opinion. You can't be wrong if the topic is subjective to one's personal beliefs -- unless it's religion. I think a good fan is someone I can sit with at a bar and talk Bengals. So you and I are at a difference of opinion and we're both 100% correct. Riagogogoindanati
I just remember siting in the cold rain during the 90's at Riverfront/Cinergy with my dad and hearing the boo's from the crowd, thinking......."this is some crazy sh*t right here." and 2 seasons ago getting a tear in my eye at going 8-8 for the season. I don't think this franchise is going to dip back into their stupor. We've come a long way baby.........just think....we could be the Brownies still waiting for a .500 season. Brown bag anyone?
