Stripes
Yeah that playcall was just plain bad. Hard to bitch though when the rest of the playcalls netted FORTY ONE f**king POINTS.
CBin2k7
ConcurBresnahan should go and the sooner the better. I think Marvin should take over the Defense for the remainder of the season. Supposedly he's a genius in this area, time to prove it. Maybe Lavar Arr & Co. and Ray Lewis & Co. made him look better than he actually is in this area. It's that old saying, when things are going well the coach gets too much credit, when things are going poorly the coach gets too much blame. You can't deny that the 2000 Ravens D was one of the greatest D's of all time.

Everyone would get mad and say I wasn't true fan for being critical of Marvin, but maybe this team was just ready to start winning when Marvin came into town. I think the biggest thing to prove this point is the fact that Marvin was hailed as such a great defensive guru and the offense has been the one carrying this team. Then year after year after year, Marvin says he is going to improve the defense, and brings in "his" guys through free agency and the draft to do so on Defense, and they still suck. First let's see if the Bengals fire Bresh and the defense improves, if not, maybe my point she be viewed a little more objectively and with less homerism. futurebengal08
Bresnahan deserves some, ok most of the blame, but i wouldn't go as far to say that it was all his fault. Marvin deserves some credit for this loss as well, and it goes back to his drafts. He's just not that good at seeing a future pro football star. I realize that he was the one that wanted to draft Ray Lewis, but what has he done for the bengals in the draft department? Johnathan Joseph is impressive as a rookie, but pretty much everyone else except Madieu has been a flop. The entire defense is ridiculously awful, but we can't pin it all on one guy. Tory James had an interception in his lap. A bad holding call gave the Chargers a td earlier in the game. I think Bresnahan should be gone, but that won't solve all of our problems. CBin2k7
Everyone knocks a play when it doesn't work. I don't know how many times I have seen people on this board complain about the sweep play the Bengals run, but when it worked for the Rudi TD, no one complains. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions, but complaining about anything the offense did in this game is missing the point.

CPalmer9
losing that timeout really didnt affect the bengals that much but not stopping them on third down was devastating
HoosierCat
In defense of Bresh, I'm not sure what halftime adjustments he was supposed to make. After all, the D had held them to 7 points and 119 total yards...so why change strategy? But the Bengals had no answer in Q3 and that is troubling. The makeshift LB corps is certainly a problem...but IMHO the problem remains all up-front. Justin does all he can, and Geathers has his moments, but we got nothin' in the middle in the way of all-around players. We appear to be decent at stuffing the run these days, but we just can't get any pressure up the middle. We need a couple complete DTs. bengalspride1219
that was 4 down territory for christ sake! that f'ing ben-gal defense wasn't going to stop anyone. and the play calling has sucked for weeks. the freggin' punt against the ravens with 6-7 minutes to go right around mid field?????? the best offense is keeping our defense off the field. run an extra play! what would it hurt? the D will give up the points and eat the clock any way! IT IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!the field goal where we were down 4 points and cut it down to one? nope. we needed those three. henry should have caught that td at the end... combatbengal
I say we draft all def next year! Did we change anything on def in the second half? What was the problem? I'm so confused!
CBin2k7
What was troubling to me was how quickly and how easily SD scored their TD's. I said to myself that they are letting the score too quickly and easily and damn if I didn't look up and the Chargers were down by 3. Now I have to listen to this crap all week out here in SD. Maybe we will keep him on the team to make a game plan all week long for the first half and hire a coach that can actually think on his feet during a game to make the proper changes to keep the Bengals in a game during the second half. bb.gun77
it can be 3rd and 99 and biting my nails and sweatin' bullets. is there an end to the madness??? you know, last year we took the ball away alot (they were gift interceptions). i know deltha had alot of them along with tory but they freggin' suck. HoosierCat
No, the problem is he had to know that San Diego was going to make some adjustments at half time, and he was unable to come up with any type of defense to stop them.Well, of course. But unless you happen to have a magic mind-reading hat available, I remain unsure how Bresh was supposed to suss out what the Chargers' changes would be. Blaming Bresh for not being a telepath seems a little extreme, IMHO.Maybe we will keep him on the team to make a game plan all week long for the first half and hire a coach that can actually think on his feet during a game to make the proper changes to keep the Bengals in a game during the second half. The ability to think on his feet is exactly what I'm questioning. Unfortunately, the talent he has to work with is questionable, especially up front. I have no particular love for Bresh, but the guys on the field need to make some plays, too, and they didn't. AGrizzlyBaer
The absolute and complete lack of a pass rush is the downfall of this defense.yeah i totally agree with that. you watch the opposing qb the last couple of games and the guy has all the time in the world to throw. its just terrible... That would be kinda of stupid to even think that is what I meant. What I was saying is exactly what you looked at in the second quote. How many TD's did San Diego have to score on successive possessions before he would make an adjustment to stop their offense? Well as we all saw, quite a few. Tho to be fair the Palmer fumble didn't exactly help, and it's possibly a Bengals win without that.
