TJJackson
How in the hell can you call yourself a fan?Being a fan does not mean liking everything and anything about a tea, and blinding one's self to it's shortcomings.Sometimes being a fan involves railing for a change when there is a problem. One Carry (this week, then it'll be back to ole Two Carry) Perry is a problem. Hardly the only problem, nor the most serious one, but a problem nonetheless.Another one of our players is out for the season and all you have to do is knock the guy. You know what they can ban me from the board, your a real piece of s**t! Someone should slap the s**t out of you!Whatever dude. That is one fine piece of reasoned argumentaion, though. You got me. Perry's a beast, it's not his fault someone tackles him behind the back and wraps up his leg. You can't control that from happening.Ball carriers get tackled from behind all the time. Most of them don't crumple like a discarded piece of paper. Unfortunately, One Carry often does. Go kick your dog you piece of s**t!*laff*
derekshank
I'm in no way happy that Perry is injured... just not in the least surprised. Nor do I think it is a significant injury for the team. Far more important injuries include: Rich Braham, Levi Jones, Tab Perry, David Pollack, Dexter Jackson, Brian Simmons, Antonio Chatman, Kelly Washington (yes... Kelly Washington).Perry has done nothing so far this season that Kenny Watson is incapable of doing. Maybe it was because he wasn't 100%... but that excuse is getting pretty tired. He may have loads of talent, but it's never available for use. Some call him unlucky... but it's past time to call him a bust. We used a 1st round pick on a guy that we get little to no production out of. And the precious little production we do get out of him in no way indicates that he was worth a 1st round selection. Kenny Watson is more than capable of catching passes out of the backfield, and is the better blocker. I'm not going to miss Perry... if for no other reason than I never noticed his presence in the first place. He's invisible out there. No big loss. ShulaSteakhouse
Perry is officially a bust. It happens. Time to move on (release him and look for replacement)And let's not use a 1st round pick on a #2 RB/3rd down back this time.Although I would love to see them have someone to compliment Rudi that's more talented than Watson. Perry had a lot of potential... but that is it we ever saw of it. Potential. He's been used as a one-trick pony... and that should be easy enough to find late on day 2 of the draft. Im sickened to see him hurt again. But to call him a bust. Well, then Pollack is also a bust. Why the hatred for Perry and not for Pollack? But to call him a bust. Well, then Pollack is also a bust. Why the hatred for Perry and not for Pollack? There might be a bit of a double standard... but only a bit. There are some very key differences.1. I defended Perry the entire year last year, and recently changed my perspective due to his name being on the PUP list starting the season. This makes his 3rd straight year of sitting out games and making no contribution. Therefore... to be consistent, Pollack must start out next year on the PUP, only to be injured after a few games before I can officially become irate in his direction. (This may indeed happen... at which point he will most likely be viewed as a bust because he was a 1st round pick).2. Pollack changed positions, and therefore was granted more patience. He played one hell of a game against the Steelers in the playoffs, which gave hope that he would become a great OLB. Perry has had incredibly few moments in his career that have led people to believe he will be anything but injury prone.3. Perry played for Michigan. Most Bengals fans are from Ohio, and therefore are OSU fans. This really does hurt Perry's cause. The hatred for Michigan doesn't just go away when he puts on the Bengal uniform. How accepted would Hines Ward be if he were traded to the Bengals? We'd live with it... but hate every moment of it.4. Pollack is a likeable guy. Perry has shown nothing in his character or personality that would make most people like him. Perry complains and bitches about the team medical staff. Pollack meanwhile suffers a potentially career ending injury, and stays his positive likeable self, helping out at children's hospitals, and making the world a better place. Sure... he's not any more help on the field than Perry is... but he appears to be a better person. This makes it harder for a Bengal fan to trash him.All of that to say, I haven't lost patience with Pollack yet, but it's really close. If he decides to retire, I can't begrudge him that, since it's his life at stake. But that won't make him any less of a bust. Perry just happens to be a year ahead of him, and has already shown his quality.
TJJackson
Perry has been around since 2004....an additional year over and above the time Pollack has been here.Give it another year, and I think you'll see people just as unhappy with Pollack (assuming he comes back, and is equally unproductive next year as he has been in 2005/2006) Allow me to add that running back is a position that a rookie can start at. linebacker, less so. defensive end converting to linebacker.....even less so still. One tends to give such a player a longer amount of time to begin contributing.Next, Pollack's selection was at a position of extreme need. Perry's selection was not.Finally......compare if you can the small niggling injuries that have been the case with Perry versus a BROKEN NECK with Pollack. Really, no comparisonAll that said, I have plenty of ire for Pollack, who held out so long in 2005 that his rookie year was at best forgettable. I ssume others do as well. BULLDOGG
I think that the criticism of Chris Perry has been completely unfair. As a Georgia native, I was a HUGE fan of Pollack and the rest of the 'Dawgs. That said, though, Pollack and Perry both belong in the same category as Ki-Jana Carter, Charles Fisher, Rickey Dixon and others who simply could not stay healthy long enough to warrant their high selection in the draft. The difference is Perry has a chance to at least salvage his career. He has shown flashes of being a very explosive player, even this year at not nearly 100%. People don't realize that he has had some major injuries (a double sports-hernia, which also ended Donovan McNabb's season a few years ago, a severely sprained ankle and now a broken leg). I still believe that he can contribute, if healthy, next year.
Stripes
Perry really did try hard to contribute something to this football team, and I hate to see him hurt again. I don't like calling players that get hurt a lot "busts," but he's certainly closing in on Ki-Jana status.
derekshank
With Perry out, Marvin said he's open to the possibility of Reggie McNeal returning kicks. I think he's our best option with his speed. He's not a polished WR yet, but he's dangerous with the ball in his hands. I say give him a chance. Once you have the ball in your hands, it is simply about securing it... whether you're a RB, a WR, a QB, or a Kick returner. The fact that Perry was returning kicks when he fumbled is a convenient excuse for his mediocre play. I don't expect the same poor results from everyone else.
