Tasher
Marv just announced that the Bengals have signed Tim Day to the PS...alnog with another TE that I did not recognize the name. Previous discussions of Day:http://forums.bengalszone.com/index.php?sh...&hl=tim+dayAdditional clarification of Marvin's comments that I missed:"Practice squad tight end Ronnie Ghent has been put on season-ending injured reserve with a broken bone in his foot and two young tight ends have been added to the squad in Oregon’s Tim Day and USC’s Gregg Guenther.. derekshank
Reggie Kelly and even Tony Stewart have shown that they can get the job done if Palmer is willing to throw the ball to them. I'm not as worried about the TE position anymore.Tim Day is not a good blocker, so I doubt he ever makes it off the practice squad. That's just my hunch though. AMC
Ehhh....Reggie Kelly is a free agent next year? What is Tony Stewart's status? These PS signings are very low level moves with no immediate impact.....
TJJackson
Tim Day is not a good blockeron the contrary.....my information indicates that Tim day is a *balanced* TE, with solidly good receiving and blocking skills, plus a lot of athleticismexample: http://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showplayer.php?key=Tim%20Daydid 26 reps on his pro dayHe wasn't one of my top choices as a draftable TE this year, but I think he can make this particular squad. bengalboomer7
Must be a slow news day. If it took the first 7 or so weeks of the season for these guys to find home I don't expect anything out of them other than next year's training camp fodder. The best they can hope for is that Hobson does a flattering preseason piece on them
Kazkal
Tim Day he was one of the UDFA I wanted so I say good deal.As for Kelly and stewart getting te job done, let's see them do it in more then 1 game before we say that.Because we thought our defense had turned it on too vs the panters. I still remember plenty of games of them dropping passes or making total of 3 yards when you needed 8.PS,Stewart is also a FA after this year. Kazkal
hopfully he blocks better then greg sense he diden't last and was 6'
derekshank
Being 6'8" is acutally a liabilty when you are blocking. It is hard to get lower than the defender if you are too tall.As for Kelly and Stewart being able to do it all season... they've actually been consistent this year... and have both already exceeded last years production. It hasn't been just one game.Kelly had 15 catches for 90 yards the entire season last year... this year he's had 8 catches for 112 yards. Tony Stewart had 4 catches for 26 yards last year, and this year has had 8 catches for 68 yards. Now we might not be talking elite TE numbers here... but they've really picked up the slack from the injuries to our WR's and RB's. When we are healthy, they get fewer looks. This indicates to me that we don't need to draft an "elite" TE, or need to hope that Tim Day is a steal. It's just not a huge need on this team. We have guys who don't feel like they need to be a huge factor in the passing game, but are available when we need them. P.S. Kelly will be back. We can re-sign him for cheap. Kazkal
who said day was a steal he's on PS,we do need think about future kelly is 30+ in the last year of his contract stewart is also preatty old ans also goes up.
Stripes
P.S. Kelly will be back. We can re-sign him for cheap.Damn skippy. We'll have the same starting TE next year as we've had for the last few.Tim Day doesn't impress me... I'd rather bring up Ghent next year. HoosierCat
Tim Day doesn't impress me... I'd rather bring up Ghent next year.I called for them to bring up Ghent during the bye. Oh well.As for Day, he is a hell of a prospect. His receiving skills aren't in doubt, and he's wily enough to make things happen. He's an under-rated blocker. The $64k question is whether he has "Matthais Askew" disease, i.e. a lack of fire in the belly.
Tasher
At least now we have "a thick neck guy like Guenther" now! Sorry, late and couldn't resist!

I thought he blocked well enough in college to make him one of the more complete TEs coming out last year. Gotta wonder what's his rub to get bounced by the Bears, though, and maybe it's as simple as lacking the necessary motivation to play every play like it's his last. Hopefully, that's what he'll get in Zinzinnati. Looks like he could be 1 injury away from finding his way on the field, so he or Guenther better learn quick.
