Ravens week!!

Arizona

Billy.......I don't think he'll be back on Monday to show off his new avatar.

I've known Arizona here for a long time Ria, and even though he's a dispicable Ravens fan, he is a man of his word. On the other hand, the Bengals BETTER pull it together and win this one, because only God know what kind of crap he'll find for an Avatar for me!

If we are good offense ravens, the bengals are toast. I know your offense can score on us, but imagine how tough that gets if our offense can match you for three of those touchdowns.

While I personally believe that our offense dictates how well they do, I will go on record as saying that the game will go as your defense plays.

Ratbird fans are going to be taken aback by just how tough and fast the Bengals defense is this year. For all the banter about how bad the defense was vs. Vick, it simply just wasn't the case. The Bengals changed their scheme to keep Vick in the pocket and it took some superior throws on 3rd down....throws that McNair probably can't make...for the Falcons to beat the Bengals.

I expect the Bengals to revert back to their base with full tilt rush against McNair. While he will no doubt take advantage of overpursuit and gain some ground a few times, he'll see quick how quick the Bengals secondary and LBs can close. And he'll think twice about taking off.

Heap will no doubt get his share. He's a great TE with seam skills but after facing Crumpler last week and hopefully having a healthy Dex Jack, Madieu and Landon Johnson blanketing Heap, what he does do will be a wash. And the Rat receivers are hardly a threat to the Bengals secondary now that they have an exceptional slot CB who will more than likely get the nod to start at corner and shift to slot in the nickel.

I would expect that Jam will find little running room. The Bengals ends and DTs have shown -- with the exception of the Pats game -- that they can match power with power and quickness with quickness. Jam will have to bounce out a lot and the closing speed of the LBs and safeties will be more than he can elude. But I do expect Ogden to resume his ownership of Justin Smith. :(

The biggest wildcard for me in this game as regards the Rats offense is their 3rd WR -- Demetrius Williams. He's not been a go to but I believe he's the best WR on that team. If the Rats braincrust decides to use him as their primary receiver, that will be a problem for the Bengals because I doubt any NFL CB can cover Williams in man. His breaks are just to quick and he's a pass catching magician.

Bengals 20

Ratbirds 13

i'm imagining the possibilities. I'll start looking for something suitable for you.

and yes, we've been getting the bounces. The important thing to take into account is that the Ravens have actually been getting into the red zone, not just punting every drive.

Yeah for what one game????? :lmao:

I don't have any worries about Baltimore and if we'll be able to handle Todd Heap, I think, matter of fact, I know we'll get the win. McNair doesn't scare me, he's washed up. Palmer will lead the offense to about 30-36 points. Baltimore's offense doesn't stand a chance at keeping up the pace with our offense.

you do realize, don't you, that your offense will be playing against our defense? You'll score, but if you break 20 points I'll be shocked.

It kinda goes both ways... We're surprised if the offense scores fewer than 27, you're surprised if your defense gives up more than 10. Something's gotta give.

There's really no excuse for the Bengals not to score every time they have the ball....but nothing near that has been happening. It's been a slow climb back to where they were last year for a number of reasons and it's still in the process of getting turned around. I'd like for this game to be the turning point for Carson, like Marv said, that the 2004 game was. We'll see but I'm still not holding out for the flashback on offense to be there yet.

The Bengals defense OTOH is poised to go off, especially getting to face a relatively slow, unimaginative offense like the Ratbirds after getting dosed on speed last week vs. the Falcons. The big concern I have w/ the Bengals will be Justin Smith. I'm not so sure the best D-lineup the Bengals could have this week wouldn't be Justin at LDE and Jumpy at RDE. Ogden can get Freenied -- and Jumpy is the closest they got to that -- but he'll control Justin all game in protection and the run game. I'd also like to see less John Thornton in this one. He was fine vs. a team with speed like the Falcons but he still gets shoved around to much vs. the run. Better to have Shaun Smith and Peko rotate at RDT on run downs and use Thornton there for pass rush with B-Rob at LDT like they've been doing. They have got to priortize keeping the D-line interior closed and force Jam to bounce out. Of course, Ahmad Brooks sure looks like he's doing just fine filling the gaps in the middle vs. the run :bengal:

The reason why it took me soooo long to join this site, is because I never knew about the innernet. (LOL, just joking.......sarcasm........... trying to sound like a Pissburgher. Carry on................)

As you aren't regular Ravens watchers, let me offer that our offense as of the bye week is no longer predictable and plodding. Whatever gripes you may have about Billick the head coach, Billick the offensive coordinator has a track record of success.

Now, performing that function for us, our offense won't be as predictable. Granted it's been one game, but style is easy to discern and establish, even if execution isn't as predictable.

Furthermore to call our touchdowns hollow is to miss the point. The Ravens are built to succeed with defense stopping the other team and getting turnovers. The proper function of our offense is to take short fields and turn them into touchdowns. To expect our offense to drive down the field like yours is to expect your defense to be number one against the run.

True, but I do expect the Bengals rud D to be the #1 run D tomorrow :P

I don't really believe that Ratbird fans or anyone else has any genuine confidence in Billick to succeed as a O-coordinator again. While built for defense, the Rats have had ample ops over the years to improve their lot on offense and simply have failed at it, which may be as much Billick's fault as that of Oz. The addition of McNair should prove over the rest of the year to be an overblown one for its value to get the Rats to the playoffs again and after Sunday I would expect on the Ravens Talk to sight it's crosshairs on the faltering offense and the failure of Billick and his blinding arrogance.

Most of us in Baltimore like Billick's arrogance. He may be an obnoxious coach, but he's our coach.

He's your coach and you can have him. At least for the rest of the season. After that, I'd be surprised if he's anyone's coach again. It's not just a matter of arrogance as in being obnoxious. It's arrogance in his own judgement about the team's offense and personnel, which Ratbird fans should be mighty pi$$ed off over because it has probably been the prevalent factor in depriving Baltimore of a Super Bowl dynasty.

Likewise you've got Marvin 2000 Ravens Lewis as your head coach and your D has been terrible year in and year out. The mark of a good coach is making do with what you have. Marvin recognized he's got a great O and uses it, likewise Billick tries to rely on our D.

Arizona has been a member here longer than I have but I've always liked him,he may be a Ravens fan but more often than not he's shown that he's a bigger football fan(All smack aside ofcourse :P )And this is one of the reasons why.

Heres to a great game!

Big difference would be that decent free agents are just now viewing the Bengals as a team worth playing for. Of course all the money committed to the offense does limit who he can get on out, but Marv inherited a 2-14 team and an organization that was in shambles. He's had to largely rely on the draft, 3rd tier free agents and one ringer outcast in Deltha O'Neal. It's been too slow a ride to watch the defense improve and setbacks like the loss of Pollack and O'dumb sure don't help but I would say the mark of the good coach is to unify the unit that he has even when the personnel can't be all that he would want and assemble competent depth at positions, which the Bengals are now being forced to rely on. I haven't seen that with Billick. He relied on Kyle Boller way too long and I think blew it again by keeping Jam over Chester Taylor.

Granted the Ratbirds did go after Turd Owens and have a similar situation to the Bengals with sinking most of the cap into one side of the ball, but I would say on the whole Billick is too arrogant to recognize what he really has and doesn't have. I think it's his team less than it is some of his players and the Rats would've been better to dial up Ted Marchiboda a few years ago than have kept Billick around this long to drive your team into the ground.

BTW...would you care to make a friendly wager on this game, something along the lines of the loser changing their avatar for a week? :)

We had our asses whopped and handed to us on a plate. We were good enough to make a game of it considering that diabolical start but at the end of the day the best team won.
