cincy9275
marvin you need to realize your coaches are not getting the job done . also guys like landon and tory should not be starters . brat does not seem to understand were his strength is on offense , rudi should touch the ball at least 30 times a game . your offense is pathetic no creativity what so ever. what ever happen to running the damn ball on first down ? he does not understand how to set a d up to take advantage of them . no good at making any kind of adjustment to our advantage . play calling is bush league at best should be shown the door tomorrow. bresh understand what teams are trying to do and adjust to it. take slackers like tory and landon off the field they are hurting this d. why the hell was crumpler not double cover on the last drive catch for a first down. too many blitzes that got beat . you should have dropped your coverage used your ends to contain the flat and make vick run or pass in to double coverage . under f**king stand what is going on. and same as above cannot make any kind of adjustments to our advantage. as long as these two jackasses are roaming the sidelines we will never be a championship team these guys are bush league and should be replace immeditly. marvin is one of the best d coordinators to ever coach in this leauge he should be running the defense not bresh. palmer is not the same this season missing way to many open recievers . his audiblizing is off how in the hell do you check down to a 3 yard pass on 3 and 7? ratliff this guys should not be a punt returner he is terrible at it. i would rather us tj or try mcneal at it . ghuihcec or what ever is still struggling most of the pressure that that carson was under came from the middle of the line .as a center he needs to recognize it and block it and what the hell was up with all his false starts or snap infractions? i am so pissed off because most of the bengals problems this year are very obvious and self imposed and they keep happening week after week without being corrected . then when the media or fans point them out the coaches. they get so defensive and not change anything and keep doing the same s**t that is not working . teams know what we are going to do they are better prepared for us and for the most part are pretty much stopping us. it's time to shake things up do some things teams don't expect from us. nothing drastic just not the same stuff that's not working . but o'well what do ya do. Kazkal
Just messin...though landon isen't ment to be starter but when you lose so many LB's it happens....Bengals need stop abandoning the run though in the 2nd half.
ShulaSteakhouse
you've got to stop Vick on 3rd and 16, and not give up 29 points, and not give up a 17 yard pass play to a TE when the game's on the line.the defense doesn't get off the field and doesn't give the offense many chances. With the defenses this team plays, this year, you can't expect your offense to score every time they get the ball.Outside of that, they looked sloppy and unprepared, and flat, just like they did vs the Pats. SkinneymulleT
IMO, Atlanta was just better today. If they dont convert on 75% of 3rd downs this is different game, although landon johnson has gone from promising to cut his ass next year, and Tory has officially hit old age and Guycheck well he just sucks(i know all the apologists will make another excuse). Does anyone want to buy into my Ref conspiracy theory now? They did more then Atlanta to hurt us. The holding/pass interefence calls that were not made, another phantom ruffing call ect. I truely believe "Heir Goodall" has sent word to the refs get us for the Trent Green hit. The calls have been so unbalanced against us since that game that i can think of no other explaination for it. How many times did the hold/ hit our recievers down field with no call? or hold a D lineman? Its like fighting with one hand tied behind your back. BTW, what happened to Chris Henry? No down field throws? WTF?
CBin2k7
When the D doesn't force turnovers it is not very good. The run D was pretty solid in this game. The pass D was terrible. Not just Tory James, but Deltha O'Neal, and Dexter Jackson were pretty bad in coverage as well.I love Landon but he has been reduced to a mere special teams contributor now, it's obvious he needs to get off the field. The Bengals defensive philosphy, whatever it is...sucks. Instead of letting offenses dictate to you, they need to come out and make the offense worry about them. I don't believe it's about talent, when you watch other teams play defense with less talent (Oakland) you will see what I mean. It's one hundred percent coaching.Atlanta's d-coordinator made adjustments on the last drive of the half, and started to blitz on almost every play. Did the Bengals take that into the locker room and adjust the playcalling. No, they didn't make any adjustments, came out of the locker room went 3 and out and that seemed to be that. You can take getting beat physically, but getting outcoached should not sit well with Marvin and his staff, and it has happened far too often this season. HoosierCat
One thing that hasn't been mentioned but should be was Shayne's out-of-bounds kickoff, which by rule sets Atlanta up at the 40. They only had to go 60 yards for a TD that drive (45, really, we gave them 15 on Brooks' roughing call, too). That bad kickoff really hurt. schweinhart
That botched kick hurt, no question. The penalty was BS but that happens. There was a no-call that also hurt on a 3rd and 3 late in the 1st Q when Housh was held over the middle by Mathis and dropped the ball. Keep that drive alive and it would've led to points. The biggest botched play that the Bengals could've controled IMO was the end around to Housh on the 1st play after the Bengals got the ball back down 26-20 toward the end of the 3rd. WTF was that 1st and 10 becomes 2nd and 17 then 2nd and 22 following a false start. The 3 and out there was a killer.
walzav29
The schdule is a lot tougher this year, and the Bengals aren't sneaking up on anyone. If the Bengals want to run with the big dogs they have to step up.
coupdayta
The main problem this year is that teams have now adjusted to our offense. Last year we took everyone by surprise and there were even rumblings about Brat getting his shot at a head coaching spot somewhere in the league. But, teams have had an offseason to study the film and adjust. Bratowski is simply not adapting well enough. Yes, Palmer is coming off an injury. But I really don't think that is the #1 issue here. And yes, the o-line has had its injuries but IMO Guycheck is the only real problem at the moment. Brat's play-calling needs to change. The season is not done but it will be if we don't adjust. Alot of the missed passes this year recievers are breaking late, not looking or something to that effect. And Guycheck.....i mean that is one thing about marvin i dont like, he tends to stay with his early draft picks to fault, and either all college sports writers are idiots or wilkerson's knee never recovered. I would think wilks would be atleast intelligent enough to make the line calls so carson does not have something else to worry about! The season is not done but it will be if we don't adjust. It's not Brat, at least not any more than it usually is. It's the injuries and suspensions. Not so much in specific (this or that player) but the overall impact of having so many missing time.In seven games, the Bengals have started something like five different combinations on the o-line, and are still down two starters. Chris Perry missed six games. TJ was out two. Chris henry has missed three (so far). Chatman barely got started before he was done. On the defense you have the same scenario, with Pollack, Jeanty, Simmons, Dexter and now K2 all missing time, and guys in the LB corps starting all over the place every week. The upshot, and the main problem with this team on both sides of the ball, is that there is absolutely no consistency. There's no rythym, no flow -- and precious little trust in ones fellow team mates, which leads to guys trying to do too much and creating even more problems. The answer is to get the same crew out there for a few weeks straight so they can get themselves together. That's been happening on offense, finally, over the past couple weeks, and you can see the results on the scoreboard. But they have to get even better in a hurry if they want to stay in this thing. I may have missed a play or something but I thought they added 15 on top of the 20 some yrd. completion giving them the ball near/ on the 20.Once again another BS roughing the passer call going against us WTF is going on? They seem to be critical of us since the Trent Green hit. I'm not whining but you see other games like gradkowski/brees getting killed & you don't see any penalties & I realize it's a judgement call but with the Bengals they don't seem to be giving us the benefit of doubt & seem quick to throw the flag.If I was Marvin I'd be raising Hell with whoever is in charge of the crews! On second thought that may be the problem, he has been pretty critical of them in the media , maybe he pissed them off!!
derekshank
The hit on Vick didn't bother me as much as the fact that they refused to throw a flag despite defenders hitting Palmers legs all day long. It seems to me like if you're going to throw flags all the time, you have to be consistent. I don't think Brooks' hit on Vick was roughing, and I don't think that Palmer's hits were roughing either, but of the two, the hits on Palmer's legs are a lot more dangerous to a QB's career. The inconsitency on the emphasis on "protecting the quarterback" has been infuriating this season. Made more so by the fact that the Bengals appears to be getting boned by the inconsistency at least oncea game (and in critical spots). When that call was made, it was game over, and they took it away from us. Against the Falcons, we had more than enough time to overcome the call. They ended up scoring a TD on the drive (only going up by 6 points at the time)... but allowing the 22 yard pass hurt us more than the 15 yard penalty. Maybe that is why I am less outraged by it.I guess what bothers me is that they passed this new rule to protect a QB's legs... but they only call penalties when QB's are hit in the mid-section. How the hell does that make sense?
membengal
It doesn't.And, I thought the extra 15 yards on their go ahead drive was a punch to the nuts. Set them up on the 20 with momentum. That's the problem with that particular penalty...whenever they call it, is is like a punch to the nuts. 15 yards is huge, and should be reserved for the worst of the worst offenses. NOT offenses that barely rise to the level of tickling...
Jonboat
You're right this isn't the same Bengals injuries/suspensions esp. on the o-line & Lb areas where we had had depth starting the season but has been quickly depleted & have taken thier toll.Landon did have a bad game but he's a solid player. Tory was replaced towards the end of the gameI didn't have any problems w/ Brat as already pointed out in a couple other threads we ran the ball when we could. I've mentioned a couple times the last few weeks how much can you put on Brat when Palmer is changing plays @ the LOS. I also didn't have a problem with the D gameplan & agree with Derek I thought the D played pretty decent. They came in wanting to stop the run & make Vick beat them with his arm & he did just that. We stopped the run, we got pressure fairly consistantly ,had them in 3rd & longs several times that's where we lost the game but not so much because we played that bad on 3rd. down but Vick was able to buy time by scrambling. Several times I counted 7-8 seconds he had to find an open receiver that makes it very difficult to cover that long.Vick did an excellent job of keeping his eye's down the field while scrambling rather than just taking off running. Give the man his props he's had back to back career day's throwing the ballPalmer had to check down because he has no time this O-line has sucked this year mostly due to injuries but Guycheck I agree doesn't seem to be the answer but he's not solely to blame. I think we kind of got fooled watching the carolina game & even the first half against Atl thinking they was coming around Carolina & even Atl played pretty straight up, not alot of blitzing but Atl changed that I think in the 2nd half after seeing they could get pressure when they started blitzing just before halftime. The O-line ( Guycheck) is not picking up the Blitz. If they don't get it right I'm afraid Palmer isn't going to make through the season but if they can find way to get it together we'll see this O roll just like last year all we need is give Palmer time in the pocket. To me it's as simple as that.Rattliff probably won't break one ( you never know) but you can at least count on him to not put the ball on the ground.Everyone is frustrated but @ the begining of the season if we knew we had 2 O-linemen , all the starting LB's , D Jax out & we'd be 4-3, would be 5-2 if not for the refs would you believe it, would you take it ? In the long run I think this will be a positive no matter how the season ends after last year losing the playoff game it was obvious they couldn't deal with adversity we're getting a heavy dose of it now & we'll be a better team because of it. POISE will get carry them through .... we'll seeSorry for the long post
