Is he getting tired of Brat's playcalling too? I think there might be a little fear of airing the ball out as much as we did last year with Palmers Knee still being sensitive.

Here's the story:

Good God, they need to air it out. They did once in the TB game for a long gain, and that was the first one I'd seen in a while. Opposing defenses are sitting on the short routes and running game. It sucks. It's not their game.

I want to air it out as much as the next guy, and the Bengals have tried it more often than people are saying. The offensive line hasn't handled those plays well, and they've resulted in nothing more than sacks or meaningless checkdown throws to Rudi for two yards.

I would have to say I do tottally agree with you, I can remember a few instances just off the top of my head where the bengals have tried to go deep and have been hit with a sack or a quick check down...in order to go deep, carson needs time and he isnt gettin it

The problem isn't simply the o-line, though it has had its breakdowns. A bigger part of the problem, IMHO, is that opposing strong safeties and linebackers are basically free to attack either the QB or, on running plays, the RB. Without a receiving threat at TE, and the Perry's -- Chris and Tab -- the Bengals have not been able to field a player that might help keep the LBs and SSs honest. Even when Carson does get a pass off to a Watson or Kelly, they don't get far with it -- if they even catch it.

No o-line is going to hold up long-term under an endless onslaught of 8- and 9-man fronts.

There's one thing you need to go deep and Carson doesn't have it, Time. As fast as these guys are you still gottta have some time to get it out there

You wanna know what I'm sick of. Brat ALWAYS( seems like it anyways) passes on first down. Can we run a play and get a 2nd and 6 every now an again?

I can't let the 0-line off the hook for not being able to stop what every other good team can. Palmer is a QB who you just need to get enough time to, like Manning, and he can beat anyone with his arm.

When he is not comfortable back there and doesn't have a consistent pocket, and 8 man fronts are taking away Rudi, and deep safeties are taking away Chad, and with no Henry there's no other deep threat, it's easy to tee-off on the Bengals' weak 0-line - just confuse and blitz them to death.

And you're right, Watson is only getting screen passes, and LB's are whipping the blocking backs and guards to the ball. Some of it is scheming and blocking assignment design (Alexander is horrible when he doesn't have the talent) and the rest injuries and talent.

I can vividly remember Carson still dropping back and throwing the ball while doing so last week just to get the damn thing off - his mechanics look bad and he looks spooked. It looks very similar to the pre-Marvin era Bengals' on offense.

So there's truth in all of this - injuries have simply killed them to the point they're an average team.

Certainly there's hope - but it looks like things won't come together again here until after week 9, and I hope it ain't too late by then.
