BZBot
Could Carson’s struggles be caused from an injured offensive line and tougher opposing defenses, or could it be deeper then that and it does not involve wearing a helmet or having your appendix removed.Source: http://www.bengalszone.com/article.php?sid=

ArmyBengal
I think the root of Carson's problems have something to do with Odell Thurman being a f*cking idiot... WHODEY !!!
derekshank
Carson Palmer's struggles? If you're talking about fumbles... well that's always been a problem (See the Jacksonville game). When defenders get a hand on the ball he is known to drop it. The problem now is that that defenders get to him far too often. It didn't show as a big problem last year because he was hit so rarely. It's something he needs to work on... but it's not a new issue. If you're talking about his other struggles... I guess I'd have to ask "What struggles?" Now... surely fantasy owners aren't pleased if they used a 1st round pick on him... but who the hell cares about fantasy football?Week 1... he only threw the ball 19 times (the fewest in his NFL career). It was rainy, Rudi was a stud, we managed the clock, we left with a 13 point lead. What's the problem?Week 2... he threw for more than 350 yards and 2 TD's. Yes, he threw 2 INT's as well... but if you'll remember, one of those hit Reggie Kelly right in the hands. Kelly became a volleyball setter, and served up the Browns LB Andra Davis for a perfect spike. Not Palmer's fault. Palmer probably shouldn't have thrown the one that got Chad knocked out... but I'd hardly call it a bad game.Week 3... Are we complaining about his 4 TD game? The one where he lead the Bengals back to defeat the hated Steelers? I sure hope not. We could have done without the fumbles, or the INT that got Henry leveled... but we won the game with a depleted defense and O-Line. He didn't play poorly.Week 4... If you want to point to a game where he "struggled," this would be the one. But I would argue that none of the guys wearing orange and black showed up for this one... so it's hard to place all the blame on #9. And by the way, he didn't throw any INT's. He just continued to have that bad habit of fumbling when defenders got to him.Is he putting up his cartoonish numbers of last year? Not yet... but lest you forget, most people didn't expect him to start a game until week 6 at the earliest. He is almost exactly 9 months removed from reconstructive knee surgery, so the fact that he has led this team to 3-1 with a pretty damn difficult schedule to this point is enough for me... but maybe I'm just easy to please. membengal
Standing ovation derek. Seriously, great stuff.Anything they have gotten from CP at this point is a bonus. That he made it back to lead them to a 3-1 record against a brutal opening sked is cause for rejoicing. His timing should only get better as the year goes on and he finally starts to accumulate the practice reps he missed while on his miraculous rehab. And, for those who minimized the win AT kansas city in the opener, did their full blown humiliation of SF last week change your mind about how good that win was? cincy9275
is not having enough time to find open receivers a mental block ? well it could be when he knows he is going to get smashed because his o-line right now is playing like s**t . agreen_112
I'm sorry but Kitna doesn't have anything to do with the reason CArson is playing the way he is. Carson is way smarter than Kitna could even dream of being. The problem is the team. Everyone is playing bad...
ArmyBengal
I didn't see anyone bring up Kitna unless I missed something, but I always found the ONE thing I liked about Kitna was his game smarts. Carson will (if he hasn't already) get to the level of Kitna in that area, but the thing is, Carson has all the physical skills that Kitna would probably pay the devil to have. Carson will be fine and as much as he pissed me off last game, will still give him all kinds of room for error...Oh yeah, the Kitna remark about paying the devil is NOT an invitation to those touchy religious types on here to start a religious right thread... I was just kidding...WHODEY !!!
Tasher
I seem to recall Carson pressing on other occasions as well, and losing the ball: Jags last year and a couple of times in 2004.Things will settle down, and Carson will learn and adjust. Stripes
Carson has lost us two games entirely on his fumbles... Jags in '05, and Titans in '04. It's certainly not a new problem, but I think he'll work at making an adjustment now that it is happening so frequently.
agreen_112
I was starting to think maybe the fumbling was an indication that he was more worried about his Knee holding up than holding onto the ball.
ShulaSteakhouse
is not having enough time to find open receivers a mental block ? well it could be when he knows he is going to get smashed because his o-line right now is playing like s**t .I do remember the 0-line not playing as well early last year and then getting better and better as the year went on. I suspect the same this year.Even as bad as they looked in the Pats game - it was a close game until the 4th quarter when the Pats' defense just teed off on Palmer and never let him get into any kind of rhythm, and the turnovers just kept leading to big plays and points.I really do expect the Bengals' to get some of their moxie back this week and put it to the Bucs - the Bengals' secondary can give a young QB like that nightmares - and if the Bengals' can come out and score early (their MO to winning it seems) they stand a great chance.I hope at least Jeanty is back Sunday and hopefully Dexter - they really are a different defense with those two providing run support and a pass rush. Watching KK and Caleb try to tackle a RB one-on-one is painful.
aaronburr
I didn't see anyone bring up Kitna unless I missed something,The link in the original post says that Carson isn't doing well because he doesn't have Jon Kitna to talk to during the game.Personally, I think his relatively poor performance might have something to do with the fact that he spent his off-season rehabbing a 16-month injury in 9 months. How did I ever miss that?"Kitna: "That's what I always do. It works great. Even puts points on the board, sometimes."
