MiamiOH91604 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Would you be interested in our team signing him for some depth? Also, what are some other free agent names still floating around?obviously our defense needs some serious help with depth (particular at the linebacker position)And while we're on the topic, I think Tory James is garbage. Stripes Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 The Packers just threw him out to the wolves... There must be something we don't know. He played poorly against the Eagles, but not THAT poorly. I'd say pass. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Who do you release to pick him up ?? If he's not good enough to play in the Packers secondary, something is wrong. Not even for depth ?? There's got to be more to it, so I'll say pass. Just to argue the other side of this as well, I would say maybe we could coach him up and turn him into the corner most thought he would be in the NFL. Not like the added depth at corner would hurt...WHODEY !!! Quote

However, based on our current roster, I would think he would just fit right in lol Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Reading over the comments on the Packers f2fa.com site, it appears that Carroll had some attitude problems...but I'm not sure he wasn't justified. After all, he's being teamed with such worthies as Marquand Manuel, so its hard to say he was the big weak link. That said, he appears to have had an Artrell-like ability to look good sometimes but then give up the big play. Toast Jr.?Given Marvins success on the corner front I would say bring him in...if we needed help on the corner, which we don't. Unless Carroll could be converted to S a la Hawkins in NE, I say pass. DontPushMe Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Im sure they'll put a claim in for him, but I doubt we get him. If they turned around O'neal, who was having similar problems (granted there is no history of Carrol ever being good) maybe they can do it again. Heck he cant be any worse than Keiwan Ratliff. As for why he was cut, hes been bad ever since they got him. One of my friends is a packer fan and hes been ripping the guy for a couple years now. He gets called for PI a couple times a game, and gets beat deep a lot. Hes got talent though, so its worth a shot imo. At least here he will be able to play dime and not be forced to cover #1 and #2 WRs. Quote

I'm sure he'll do well if he can find the right system (a la Deltha). Not here, though... Quote
Kazkal Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I'd say give him a shot, why not look what we did for oneal green bay sucks with corners look how woodson is working. Quote
walshfan Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 He possesses extradinary speed.. Commited numerous penalties and been torched allot. He also was arrested in February for a skirmish with a cop...so yeah outside of the penalties and being torched he'd fit in.. Quote
schweinhart Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 If he lasts that long on the wire and the cap space was there, why not pick up Batman? Greg Brooks has yet to see the field and the Bengals have realized that Keiwan fits their needs neither in the slot nor wide. Carroll could free up Joseph to play man at the weakside corner in the nickel because he's got the speed to stick with fast WRs in the slot. But he does get burned and how much of that is him, scheme and/or coaching would be the evaluation at hand. Quote
membengal Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 By the way, to people around here who crack on Chris Perry, if you really want to know what a first round bust looks like...it's Carroll. Quote
GROIIIDayton Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Didn't look that bad?? I've never seen a grown man get picked on so bad. I wouldn't bet against it if someone said that he was crying during the game. Quote

I think he'd be all right if they could constantly give him safety help over the top, because Tory plays the short stuff about as well as anyone in the business. He just doesn't have the burners to catch up any more.I think if our run D was better, and Dexter was healthy, they could let Madieu play over Tory more, and let Dexter play more of the short routes. As it is, they practically have to commit a safety to the line, leaving the other one to basically take the entire deep half of the field. Not good. Quote
SkinneymulleT Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Doesnt this sound like deltha's situation? Bring him here. Dude cant be that bad to have started like 28 of 34 games. Quote
MacD BengalFan Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I am of the belief that when a player is released from a team with lessor talent, there is a reason. The Bengals defense may not be the best, but picking up Carroll will not improve it. Quote
JaxonFord87 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 If he is willing to come here very cheap, I say why not. Like maybe on a one year deal or something. Quote
derekshank Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Doesnt this sound like deltha's situation? Bring him here. Dude cant be that bad to have started like 28 of 34 games.Exactly what I was thinking. He was the 25th overall selection in the 2004 draft... one selection before we picked Chris Perry.I don't think he's big enough to be a safety... which is really where we need the help. I very much doubt we see a move on this guy, but I wouldn't be against it. I don't think Tory's going to be here next year, and Joseph will be the starter. Those of you who think Ratliff isn't good enough to be our nickle should be pushing for this move. That said... I'm much more interested in findling safety depth right now... and we don't even seem interested in that (There are still some fairly good players out there... Keion Carpenter, Ronnie Heard, Lance Schulters). We need more help at LB right now than the secondary. Quote
agreen_112 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 WE don't need anymore flunkies, don't pick him up. Quote
jditty47 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 we could mold him right. look the guy has talent, mb not as a shutdown corner, but as a nickle, or in zone he would be fine. but our depth at that position is pretty solid right now, so probably no. Quote

It might work out... but at this point it isn't really meeting a need, so it's doubtful. The reason I'd like to see him in stripes is because I think this is Tory's last year... and I believe Carroll would an upgrade over Ratliff... but we need to spend our money wisely. I'd prefer spending money on LB or Safety if the opportunity presents itself. Quote
BTG Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 He has all the talent in the world...he's just raw and was not coached well in Green Bay. He's kind of like the new Phillip Buchanon. Quote
jditty47 Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 right. theres sooo many good players that just didnt work out in a certain system but moved on and did well. Quote
derekshank Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 right. theres sooo many good players that just didnt work out in a certain system but moved on and did well.Well... I can think of at least two here in Cincinnati alone. Hey... they are our starting corners! Quote
