Fumbling away the season?

In his first two seasons that Carson Palmer played, he had a total of 7 fumbles and 4 that were lost. With only four games into the season he has already matched that. Hopefully palmer improves and this will not be a big issue this year. I know that he just came back from is knee injury, but he still needs to hold on to the football.

What does everyone else think?

If you are not getting mauled by the opponents D-line.. it is not an issue. Bobby Williams is absolutely awful pass blocking. GWEEchuck is not much better... twice Jarvis Green beat double teams by the two of them to hit Carson

ya richie is a huge loss. but palmer is holding the ball away from his body before he throws and low. he needs to hold the ball tighter with both hands and higher and closer to his body. seems like opponents are keying on it until its corrected.

Palmer was a little proned to fumbles even before this season. He hasn't had so much pressure in his face for a long time, and it'll probably take him some time to make the necessary adjustments in his mechanics to deal with it and keep the ball secured all at once.

While the o-line could obviously be playing better, a sizeable chunk of the sacks and fumbles are on Carson. He's holding on to the ball way too long, and he's not protecting it when he's doing that. Couple that with a lot of noticably bad mechanics, IMHO. I can't count the number of times I've seen Carson just not stepping up/forward when he throws, even when there's time and space for him to do so. He's just flinging it off his back foot, falling away from the throw. As a result you see a lot of inacurate passes, and a lot of sailing airballs.

Pressure or no, Palmer looks like he's regressed. Whether it's the knee still in his head or bothering him, a lack of confidence in his o-line, the shifting lineup of receivers, the "sophomore slump" coming a year late, or something else, well, the by comes at a good time. Carson needs some sharpening.
