jjakq27
In 2002, during the tenure of Dick LeBeau, the Bengals faced the Steelers for the second time that year in week 11 at Heinz Field. I found the events of that game eerily similar to Sunday's game but reversed. The following is the a brief summary of the game from the Bengals Media Guide of 2003:"The Bengals rallied from a 17-0 deficit to take a 21-20 lead with 8:35 to play, but the Steelers came back with a late field goal and TD to secure the victory. The Bengals were still up 21-20 with 6:50 to play when they forced the Steelers to punt from the Pittsburgh 33, but Cincinnati's TJ Houshmandzadeh fumbled after an 11-yard return to the Bengals' 26, and Steelers LB Mike Jones recovered. Jeff Reed's 45-yard FG put Pittsburgh up 23-21, and after the Bengals went three-and-out offensively, the Steelers scored a TD in a 61-yard drive of just two plays, climaxed by Jerome Bettis' 24-yard TD run. The Bengals moved as close as the Steelers' 5 in the final minute of play, but their cause was lost when a fourth-down pass from John Kitna to Chad Johnson was knocked away by CB Chad Scott."Using Steeler logic we actually won that game. Tasher
Nice! I had forgotten the exact details of that game (probably due to suppression of the memorie, aided by some un-named liquid). That is hilarious.
BengalszoneBilly
That is hilarious. What's really hilarious is that in both games, with each team winning once, Dick LeBlow still took it in the a$$ both times!

Yeah, and we scored on our first drive Sunday, with Ben passing very effectively. So by Bengals logic, the first drive clearly shows who would win the game, so the Steelers won that game. Either that or the whole "Palmer completed a deep pass before getting hurt, so obviously he would have been spectacular throughout the whole game" arguement doesn't work. Stripes
Either that or the whole "Palmer completed a deep pass before getting hurt, so obviously he would have been spectacular throughout the whole game" arguement doesn't work.Nobody is making that argument. The idea that the Bengals win with Palmer in the game is rooted in what he did to the Steelers in their previous matchup in Pittsburgh, and in the immense energy swelling within the team and the stadium with the Bengals first playoff appearance in 15 years.Jon Kitna didn't cut it, and there's nothing like a terrible injury to a starting Pro Bowl quarterback to deflate a crowd and a football team.Sure, the Bengals could have shown a lot more poise in that game, and due to the events of halftime and the team's performance in the 2nd half, they did not deserve to win.Without the Palmer injury, however, none of that ever happens. The 66 yard pass is irrelevant to this discussion.
